Chapter 372 How Did Mr. Harriman Suddenly End up Here?
"Gabriel." Jessica stared at him blankly, firmly believing this was just a dream, her voice almost a whisper.
Even though she had hit her head on the ground when she fell, causing a buzzing pain in her head, and the noise around her was overwhelming, her small world seemed to be tightly protected by Gabriel, not even a shard of the lamp had hurt her.
But now, she was covered in so much blood that it almost soaked through her light-colored clothes.
However, she wasn't injured, not even a scratch. Without the pain, she wondered if this was just a dream.
"Has the ambulance arrived?"
"Hurry, get them out. The old lady and her grandchildren are trapped underneath."
"Is that Mr. Harriman? I thought he was in the front. How did he suddenly end up here?"
"Quick, save them."
It seemed like the old lady celebrating her birthday and her family were right in the center, and the smell of blood was too strong, indicating more than one person was injured.
Jessica couldn't hear what the crowd was saying.
She tried to lift her hand but could only move her wrist because the lamp pressing on them was too heavy. The lamp had shattered, but the metal parts were still large and heavy, especially after falling from a three-story-high ceiling.
Everyone knew that people might have died tonight.
Jessica's trembling hand grabbed Gabriel's arm. She tried to speak but found her throat blocked by countless things, as if any sound would turn into a terrified whimper.
Finally, as someone hurriedly pushed the lamp off them and helped the person on top of her up, Jessica quickly got up. Seeing Gabriel with his eyes closed, she ignored her missing high heel and the shards on the ground, stepping on the fragments as she turned to run over.
"Wait." Jessica seemed to hear Gabriel's voice. She rushed forward and saw Gabriel being helped onto a stretcher by a doctor, his stretcher almost instantly stained red.
"Take her, too," Gabriel said, his eyes closed, face pale and exhausted. He seemed to have no strength left but could accurately find Jessica's voice, slightly raising his hand to indicate taking her as well.
The two doctors glanced at the blood on Jessica, unable to tell if she was injured, so they simply helped her out, too.
When she was put into the ambulance, Jessica stumbled to the stretcher beside Gabriel, seeing the blood continuously flowing from the back of his neck. She grabbed his shoulder tightly, finally finding her voice, angrily and anxiously shouting, "Gabriel, are you crazy? Do you want to die?"
"Miss, be gentle with him." The doctors and nurses in the ambulance saw her rushing over covered in blood, not looking like she was pleading for help but rather like she wanted to stab him again, and quickly tried to pull her away.
Jessica didn't let go, still in shock, but angrily scolded, "I warn you. If you dare to die, I won't let you off!"
Gabriel, pale, barely opened his eyes to see her fierce expression, suddenly coughed, his voice hoarse, almost a whisper, "Good, I won't let you off either."
'Did he hit his head so hard that he's confused?
'What did he mean by not letting me off?
'Didn't he not even want to mention my name? Didn't he look down on my actions now?' she thought in her heart.
Gabriel closed his eyes again, not making a sound. Jessica leaned over the stretcher in the ambulance , almost shouting. "Gabriel!"
Gabriel took a breath, eyes closed, struggling to say, "Not dead yet, save your strength for when I am."
The medical staff preparing for emergency treatment looked at her strangely. They initially thought she was injured, but her loud shouting clearly indicated she wasn't seriously hurt, maybe just stepped on some shards.
Jessica stopped talking, stepping back to not hinder the doctors, but leaned back in the ambulance, exhausted. On the way from the Golden Orchid Hotel to the hospital, the sirens of police cars and ambulances wailed in unison.
Gabriel remained silent. Jessica kept turning to Gabriel, who was being urgently treated, trying to see the rise and fall of his chest. Even a few seconds without seeing his chest move made her feel like she was suffocating.
Finally arriving at the hospital, Jessica ignored her blood-stained face in public. She had noticed in the ambulance that she was missing a shoe, so she took off the other one, following the emergency bed barefoot to the emergency room door.
It wasn't until the medical staff stopped her from entering that Jessica halted, her eyes fixed on Gabriel being wheeled in.
She knew that pleading with the doctors to save his life was useless now, but sometimes people couldn't control the urge to say pointless things.
Before being wheeled into the emergency room, Gabriel, eyes closed, said softly, "Don't worry. I won't die."
Jessica swallowed the words she was about to say, remaining silent.
Watching the emergency room doors open and close, Jessica stood outside, her dazed expression disrupted by the hurried footsteps and cries behind her. Turning around, she saw other injured people being brought into the hospital.
Many of those crying were people she had seen in the banquet hall tonight, their beautiful evening gowns stained with blood, a tragic sight.
She didn't know if anyone from the film crew was injured, but she could only stand there like a piece of driftwood floating aimlessly on the sea.
Fear, confusion, and bewilderment... All these emotions overwhelmed her.
The hospital lobby was chaotic, crowded. Even though she was covered in blood, the medical staff couldn't attend to her immediately.
It wasn't until over an hour later that someone noticed her standing pale and bloodied in front of the emergency room.
"Miss, is your foot cut? Let me take you to the clinic for bandaging." A nurse came over to help her.
Suddenly, the emergency room door opened, and Jessica immediately turned to inside, seeing Gabriel being wheeled out. She quickly walked forward.
But Gabriel was unconscious.
The doctor, seeing her still there, came over to reassure her, "The fragments in the patient's back need to be removed, the wounds need to be disinfected and stitched. The bleeding was severe because the wounds were deep, but fortunately, no nerves or bones were damaged. He was given anesthesia and will wake up in about four to five hours. He'll be fine, don't worry."
Jessica finally felt her heartbeat slow down, looking at the unconscious Gabriel, nodding blankly. The nurse led her to bandage her foot, and she nodded again.
It was as if her soul had finally returned to her body, allowing her to breathe smoothly again.
