Chapter 175 What? You Don't Know Me

Jessica hadn't noticed the commotion on the other side, but in a flash, she saw Mackenzie and Zoey not far behind her. She turned back and threw them a smiling glance.

Apart from the high-ranking executives of various renowned domestic companies, celebrities, actors, singers, and senior agents from inside and outside the industry were present at the event.

Mackenzie had her circle and was chatting with the artist director of a media company. Jessica didn't approach them, and after exchanging glances, she walked towards the other side with a highball glass in hand.

Although she was a spokesperson, many important figures were present tonight. She had already been on stage during the expo in the afternoon, so tonight, she just needed to make a dignified appearance. She only needed to smile confidently and beautifully in front of the occasional media camera; there weren't many other requirements.

As everyone was in small groups during the banquet, no one came to tell her what to do. Jessica moved to the dessert table by the side of the hall, picked up a cream cherry, and took a bite.

It tasted quite good.

"Excuse me, are you Jessica?"

Just as she picked up a small cake with cherries on the side, a voice suddenly came from beside her. Jessica turned to see a young girl in a dress standing next to her, looking her up and down with a critical gaze.

The way she looked at Jessica wasn't as polite as when she asked the question.

Jessica subtly withdrew her hand near the dessert table and politely smiled at the girl. "Hello, I'm Jessica. May I ask who you are?"

The girl suddenly whispered something to another girl who was very close by, and they walked away, leaving Jessica without a second glance.

Jessica wasn't embarrassed. She turned as if nothing had happened and continued to pick up her small cake. Most of the time, Jessica would sneak a bite or two while Danielle was eating; she rarely bought desserts for herself.

It wasn't about watching her figure or controlling her diet; she just wasn't particularly fond of sweets.

Today, however, Jessica felt like the cake suited her taste. It was made with premium cream, melted in the mouth, sweet but not cloying, and the large cherry on top was simply delicious.

A short distance away, the girl who had just addressed her huddled with a few friends. They stood, casting occasional glances Jessica's way, their whispers and exchanged glances brimming with disdain, mockery, jealousy, and sarcasm. Jessica didn't actually know them; only two of the girls looked vaguely familiar.Among them was Donna Martin, who had lost the "Charles II" secondary lead role to Jessica. Despite being in the industry for over a year and gaining popularity with her dance and singing performances, she had a large fan base but still fell short.

Although they had never met, Donna had already set Jessica as a rival in her mind. Occasionally, in her social circle, she would make sarcastic remarks about Jessica, known only to those in her circle. The other girl seemed to be from the industry as well, but Jessica couldn't recall her name.

The rest, although not from the industry, were likely daughters of wealthy families; otherwise, they wouldn't have been dressed so elegantly at such an event.

Despite noticing them looking in her direction and the evident hostility in their eyes, Jessica paid them no mind. She was about to put down her highball glass to savor her cake when someone else approached her.

"Hi, Ms. Jenner?"

Jessica turned, looked for a moment, and smiled. "Pamela Adams, nice to meet you."

Pamela was a well-known manager in the industry, often referred to as the queen of entertainment agents. She was a tough and powerful woman who managed many top male and female artists. It was said she was strict and had a bad temper; even if her artists were extremely successful, they still had to be cautious when speaking to her.

Jessica never thought she would have dealings with her, let alone be called out by Pamela at this event.

"I just saw Mackenzie over there. You're one of her artists, I know," Pamela said with a smile, tapping Jessica's highball glass. "No wonder you got the Tilans endorsement; you truly are a natural beauty. When I talked to Sebastian about work a few days ago, he mentioned you. I saw some footage of your shoots on his phone, and he praised you a lot. He even plans to discuss a movie with you when you have the time. I'm here to greet the rising star in the industry."

"Pamela, you're exaggerating. I'm just a struggling actress at the grassroots level. My future path will depend on the care of the bosses in the industry," Jessica said with a light laugh, showing neither anxiety nor pride, just a sense of ease.

Pamela smiled at her, but before she could continue, Donna suddenly approached and hugged Pamela as if they were old friends who hadn't seen each other in a long time. "Pamela, it's been so long, I miss you." After exchanging pleasantries, Donna turned to Jessica and, as if she didn't know her, asked, "Who is this?"

Pamela raised an eyebrow. "You don't know each other?"

Donna innocently stood by Pamela's side, holding her arm intimately, and asked, "No, I don't know her. Who is she?"

Jessica looked at Donna's feigned expression and didn't give her any face. She glanced at her and said, "What? You don't know me?"

Clearly taken aback by Jessica's directness, Donna looked at her again, blinked, and seemed surprised. "Are you Jessica Jenner?"

Pamela quietly observed the two without speaking, solely focusing on Jessica's expressions.

Jessica, in turn, refrained from excessive dialogue, merely offering a sly smile as she gazed at Donna, who had just been mocking her from a distance. With a gentle smile, Jessica remarked, "I thought you'd recognize me. It appears Ms. Martin's memory is like a sieve.. I am Jessica Jenner."

Donna seemed puzzled by Jessica's demeanor, her eyes widening in astonishment as she exclaimed, "You are Jessica Jenner, then?"

Pamela didn't want to engage in such a trivial topic, so she found it uninteresting. "I'll go over there first. You two can chat."

After Pamela left, Donna's smile no longer seemed as innocent as before. She raised her glass towards Jessica, implying. "I really didn't recognize you earlier. I didn't realize you were the Tilans spokesperson. Let's have a toast. Will you accept my apology?"

Jessica offered a light smile, glanced at Donna's wine, and instead of a toast, set her highball glass on the adjacent dessert table. Without another word, she turned and walked away.
