Chapter 492 Wait for Me
The Golden Fortune Restaurant caught fire, and the suspect directly pointed to her father, Eugene. Moreover, since Samuel had been following Eugene, all the conflicts were directed at the two of them.
It was indeed a coincidence that Eugene invited her to dinner, and such an incident happened on that day.
Even though it was discovered later that the backer behind the Golden Fortune Restaurant had some connections with Manhattan Construction, there was no trace of Aaron's involvement, which was thoroughly covered up.
Aaron hadn't returned to Washington these days, as if he had disappeared, but in reality, everything was still within his control.
Moreover, the existence of Jessica and Gabriel posed the greatest threat to him.
Outside the ICU, a bodyguard came in and said, "Landon, Mrs. Harriman has left the hospital and met her father at the main entrance."
Landon pondered for a moment and then said, "Got it."
"Do we need to escort Mrs. Harriman back to the ward?" the bodyguard asked.
"No need, the issues with the Jenner family are something she will have to face alone sooner or later. Even if Mr. Harriman is not around, she can handle those family matters by herself. Mr. Harriman has already paved the way for her in terms of connections and information channels at Manhattan Construction. If she knows how to take advantage of them, we don't need to intervene for now," Landon paused, "Have you figured out the connections of that little girl Rebecca? Is there any problem with her?"
"That little girl has been living a tough life in the Jenner Estate. Recently, she is the only one from the Jenner family who can enter the hospital. Based on her actions alone, there seems not to be anything suspicious, but we can't be completely sure about other aspects. However, for now, she is wholeheartedly staying by Mrs. Harriman's side to take care of her. It seems that the little girl mentioned that Mrs. Harriman had helped her before, and she always calls Mrs. Harriman her sister," the bodyguard replied.
"Keep an eye on Rebecca's movements. If she hasn't done anything, there's no need to alert her. Whatever Mrs. Harriman needs to do now, as long as it's not dangerous, we don't need to interfere. Mr. Harriman's condition is critical, and naturally she will be occupied through the matter," Landon instructed.
The bodyguard nodded, called the people downstairs to withdraw, leaving only two guards at the entrance.
Jessica spent another two days in the hospital, figuring out the entire business layout of the Jenner family and every related network. She also familiarized herself with the overall corporate structure of Manhattan Construction and the Jenner family in Washington.
During this time, she took advantage of the doctor's permission to get out of bed and entered the ICU a few times.
At first, the bodyguards in the corridor wouldn't let her in and repeatedly asked her to go back. Later, Landon allowed her to enter once, but only to look through the glass window outside the ward.
The ward inside was large, with many machines. Gabriel remained in a deep sleep, his face pale and bloodless.
It wasGabriel who had jumped from the third floor with her in his arms during the fire and put all his efforts into saving her without regard for his own safety.
It was Gabriel who had told her that he wasn't there seven years ago , but he would always be there seven years later .
He just lay there motionless.
Now, even if she were to beg him at his bedside to hold on for her and Danielle to wake up, he wouldn't respond.
Having been by his side for so long, some dependencies she hadn't even thought of had gradually become habits. As he had said, he had become the most needed person in her life.
Even when she returned to the Jenner Estate, her main intention was to see Donald, avoid the various schemes of the Jenner family, and arrange her work in Washington as soon as possible so she could smoothly return to Xyleria.
But the gap between ideal and reality was always wide. As Gabriel had also said, some people, because of their identities and the heights they stand at, held too many constraints.
The Jenner family was never a place she could avoid.
Jessica raised her hand and gently placed it on the glass, tracing Gabriel's features from a few feet away. Gabriel, in his coma, looked serene and quiet, his usual coldness or sharpness hidden away, leaving only a calm and unperturbed expression.
Landon, standing beside her, said, "Mrs. Harriman, we need to stay here for Mr. Harriman, but if you need anything, you can call me anytime. I will send someone to follow you and ensure your safety. Additionally, Mr. Harriman installed a tracking software on your phone. On the day of the incident, he had sent us a location alert in advance, sodon't worry. Even if you return to the Jenner Estate, we can still track your location and will come to you if need."
Jessica's fingers paused on the glass, and she turned to look at him, "When was it set up?"
"Just a couple of days after we arrived in Washington," Landon replied.
Gabriel had indeed known early on that this trip to Washington wouldn't be simple. He had already paved the way and set up defenses, without intending to let Jessica know about the hidden calculations beneath the calm surface. His intention was to silently bear everything for her, allowing her to come to Washington smoothly and return to Xyleria peacefully.
However, the unexpected fire appeared. The opponent's original plan was steady and cautious. The previous incident at the hospital should have made the opponent temporarily back off, but the sudden ruthless move was not just to burn Gabriel and Jessica, but probably also included Eugene. There must have been some problems, or perhaps some unknown reasons related to Donald.
Jessica had calmly considered all the reasons over the past two days. Only a few people stayed in the Jenner Estate, and no matter how cautiously they acted or how they stayed hidden, there were only two people worth speculating about.
Even if the purpose was obvious, not showing up was indeed the best way. Even if there were suspicions, they could still perfectly clear all doubts.
"I'll go back to the Jenner Estate this afternoon and come back to see him in the evening. Please take care of him at the hospital." Jessica nodded to Landon and then looked back at the comatose Gabriel in the ward, mouthing a few words.
'Wait for me.' Jessica repeated it in her mind.
Landon sent someone to escort her and Rebecca out.
The Jenner family's car was parking outside, including Eugene's car, but Jessica didn't get in. She called Landon from downstairs, saying she would go back to the hotel to get some things and would go to the Jenner Estate later.
After arranging a driver for her, Landon put down the phone and turned to look at the ICU ward through the glass, Gabriel was still in a coma.
It was clear that Jessica was someone who had been accustomed to enduring since childhood, someone who would strive to adapt to any environment.
Just now, as she stood there looking at Gabriel, her fingers were trembling, but she didn't say anything, nor did she shed a single tear.
Time had made her gentle and serene, but this raging fire had put a blade of revenge in her hand.
Landon could sense that since Jessica woke up, she had been excessively calm.
