When Gabriel heard Jessica say she was going to take the test right away, a flicker of nervousness crossed his eyes. Jessica couldn't help but cover her mouth to stifle her laughter, not wanting the guests in the cave to hear. She quickly turned and headed back to the restroom, feeling giddy.
It was rare to see Gabriel's emotions so plainly on his face.
About ten minutes later, Jessica emerged from the restroom and saw Gabriel standing outside.
Directly opposite was the direction of the sunrise on Mantanani Island. The sun had been up for a while, and it was just past six, the perfect time for everything to be bathed in light and warmth.
Gabriel stood with his back to the restroom, one hand in his pocket, his tall and lean figure outlined against the light. Hearing her come out, he turned his head, his eyes locking onto hers with precision.
They had been together for quite some time, having gone through all sorts of experiences, yet this moment felt strangely new.
It reminded Jessica of years ago when she found out she was pregnant, standing bewildered at a crossroads in life, unsure of what to do, her hand resting on her belly, feeling the warmth of the only family she had inside her. That moment seemed to overlap with the present one.
But something was different now.
She had family, loved ones, things and people she cared about, a home, a career, a future worth fighting for, and a peace and happiness she wanted to protect.
The father of her child was waiting for her outside, his usually calm and composed eyes now showing unguarded concern.
Everything felt so natural and real.
Jessica walked over with a smile, and Gabriel stepped towards her, extending his long arm to pull her into his embrace. "If you want to finish filming the show, you should talk to the production team. See if there's any flexibility in the upcoming games and activities."
"I haven't even told you the result of the pregnancy test, how did you..."
"The moment you came out, your eyes gave it away. Do you really need to say it?" Gabriel teased her, his tone mocking her childishness. He looked down at her, pinching her chin. "It only takes a few minutes to get the result, but you took over ten. You were obviously thinking about how to break it to me gently."
Jessica's expression changed immediately. She raised her hand to push him away, but instead of moving, Gabriel leaned down and kissed her cheek, clearly not giving her a chance to play coy.
"Do you have to point it out? I'm an actress, I need to save face," she said, catching sight of Rachel and Melissa walking over together, likely heading to the restroom as well.
Knowing Rachel's little quirks, Jessica didn't feel the need to avoid her, but Melissa was nice, and while they all liked to show off their relationships, flirting outside the restroom was a bit much.
Plus, she wasn't sure if she should share the pregnancy news with the other guests yet, so she instinctively tried to pull away from Gabriel's embrace.
However, Gabriel didn't let her go. When Rachel saw them and came over to say hi, he took the opportunity to kiss Jessica on the corner of her mouth. Startled, Jessica glared at him, but Gabriel just smiled lightly and whispered, "Didn't you say we're an old married couple? What's there to hide?"
Melissa joined them, rolling her eyes dramatically. "This is the first time I've seen a couple more lovey-dovey than Brent and me."
