Chapter 432 Only Let Gabriel Speak
In the past few years, it seemed like all the female celebs who had beef with Jessica went MIA on Instagram. No one said a word. But if you dug a little deeper into their accounts, you'd notice some old posts throwing shade at Jessica had mysteriously vanished or were set to disappear after six months. It was like they never existed.
Jessica, already a big name in the industry, now had this untouchable vibe.
Sure, there were still some folks on the sidelines questioning how Jessica got so famous. Every now and then, you'd hear some gossip, doubts, and trash talk.
But once the Harriman Group's official Instagram announced her marital status, it was clear how much Gabriel valued Jessica. Anyone with half a brain could see the love and sweetness between them, and those doubting voices pretty much died down. No one paid them any mind anymore.
"Thank you, great-grandma. You should eat too, great-grandma."
At breakfast, Danielle sat next to Seraphina, who kept piling her plate with all sorts of kid-friendly dishes. Danielle returned the favor, picking out food for Seraphina, creating this super sweet scene between the old and the young.
Seraphina absolutely adored Danielle. She mentioned she barely slept the night before, eagerly waiting for morning just to see Danielle again. Even in her half-asleep state, her mind was filled with images of Danielle, showing just how much she missed her.
"Today's the weekend, so Danielle doesn't have to go to kindergarten. How about spending more time with great-grandma?" Seraphina said with a smile, her eyes full of love.
Danielle's eyes lit up as she looked at Jessica and Gabriel: "Mommy, Daddy Gabriel, can I?"
Jessica wasn't sure what Gabriel had planned for the next couple of days, but seeing how much Seraphina missed Danielle, she knew they wouldn't leave right away. Otherwise, Seraphina wouldn't eat or sleep well.
Gabriel saw Danielle's hopeful and slightly pleading eyes and said gently, "Sure, but we need to go somewhere else with great-grandma. There's an elderly person there you've never met. Wanna go?"
Jessica guessed he was talking about Michael.
Danielle's eyes widened with curiosity: "Really? Will great-grandma come with us?"
"Of course, if Danielle wants to go, great-grandma will go with you. Great-grandma's got your back!" Seraphina said, touching Danielle's little face. "If that old man gives you a hard time, great-grandma will handle him for you!"
Danielle was surprised. "Huh?"
Jessica couldn't help but laugh quietly.
Seraphina continued, "Great-grandma's telling you, the old man we're gonna see later, if he's nice to you, don't think much of it. If he's not, ignore him even more. Just stick with great-grandma and stay away from that old man!"
"Great-grandma, does 'old man' mean grandpa?" Danielle asked, blinking in confusion.
Seraphina snorted, "Just an annoying old man!"
Danielle looked at Jessica and Gabriel, totally confused.
Jessica didn't dare to badmouth Michael, nor could she praise him, so she left it to Gabriel to explain.
Gabriel said, "Danielle, finish your breakfast first."
"Okay!" Danielle chirped, "Great-grandma, you eat too!"
"Alright, my sweet Danielle," Seraphina beamed, her eyes never leaving Danielle. She looked more lively and energetic since last night.
After breakfast, while Danielle and Seraphina played in the yard, Jessica remembered to ask about Seraphina, "Why haven't I seen grandma before? I heard her mention something about just returning to the country. Has she been living abroad?"
Gabriel replied, "Michael used to be even more stubborn than he is now. They argued all their lives, and in the end, grandma couldn't take it anymore. They divorced, and she moved to Peak City. She lived there for almost twenty years without coming back."
Twenty years?
Jessica did some quick math and realized Seraphina must have been in her sixties when she divorced Michael.
They had spent almost a lifetime together, but Michael became more stubborn and unbearable with age, so Seraphina divorced him and moved abroad?
"Don't be fooled by grandma's age. Her mindset and style are more independent and carefree than many young women today," Jessica said sincerely.
Gabriel glanced at her. "Are you envious?"
"Not really, because I'm already very independent and carefree," Jessica boasted.
Gabriel laughed, looked at her for a while, then suddenly pulled her into his arms. "Crying alone in the old house is your idea of carefree?"
There was a moment of silence.
As expected.
"That little brat Danielle! She betrayed me again!"
Jessica gritted her teeth, rolled up her sleeves, and tried to turn around to find Danielle.
Gabriel laughed and pulled her back. "Why are you running?"
"I didn't run!"
Jessica was stubborn, refusing to look at him.
But she didn't want to seem too coy, so she couldn't help but sneak a glance back, only to see Gabriel raising his eyebrows slightly, as if waiting for her to look at him.
Jessica touched her nose, trying to change the subject quickly. Standing in Seraphina's estate, she raised her questions.
"When you found out seven years ago that the woman was me and that Danielle was your daughter, what was your first thought and plan?"
"To marry you."
"Was it because of responsibility that you wanted to marry me so quickly?"
"If you hadn't run away two years ago, you would already be Mrs. Harriman. Whether it's responsibility or love, can't you make sure in your mind?"
Why was he asking me back?
Although she knew the answer, hearing Gabriel say it made Jessica's heart swell with pride.
"What if, seven years ago, the woman wasn't me, but another woman who forced herself on you?"
"No what-ifs."
"Just hypothetically, what if it wasn't me but another woman."
"I'd strangle her."
Jessica instinctively felt a chill on her neck, touched it, and saw Gabriel's expression turn "silent" at the mention of being forced. She couldn't help but shiver slightly.
