Chapter 241 Working Under Mr. Harriman

Chapter 241 Working Under Mr. Harriman

Jessica's phone had been off for the past few days, and as soon as she turned it on, dozens of WhatsApp messages popped up.

Before she could read them, she suddenly turned to Cynthia and instinctively asked in a voice only Cynthia could hear, "How do you know Gabriel?"

Given her understanding of Cynthia and Gabriel, neither of them were the type to exchange contact information with someone they barely knew. Gabriel was as unattainable as a high mountain flower, and Cynthia was no different.

"I once worked under Mr. Harriman when I was in America. I'll explain more when we have time," Cynthia said succinctly.

Jessica knew very little about Gabriel's past.

She didn't understand him as a person, nor his past, present, or future.

Jessica withdrew her gaze and suddenly felt a shadow approaching her. In an instant, she saw Eugene walking towards her with a grim face, his eyes like daggers. He raised his hand, looking like he was either going to strangle her or slap her. His expression was so hostile that it seemed she wasn't his daughter but a failed transaction.

But the slap never landed.

In an instant, Cynthia had raised his hand, blocking Eugene's. At the same time, Cynthia pulled out her badge with her other hand and held it up to him, her eyes cold as ice. "Mr. Jenner, I advise you not to act rashly in front of a police officer."

Eugene immediately withdrew his hand, his face cold as he scrutinized Cynthia with disbelief. Then he looked at Jessica with displeasure. "Did you call her?"

"Since you dragged me back to the Jenner family, I haven't even had a phone. How could I call anyone? With my mind?" Jessica retorted coldly.

"You!"

"Eugene, was your daughter destined to be used and sold by you from the moment she was born?" Jessica stared back at him coldly. "People should always have a sense of reverence because God is watching you at all times. Aren't you afraid of retribution for being so inhumane?"

Because there was a police officer present, and especially since this female officer was on Jessica's side, Eugene hesitated for a moment and didn't speak immediately. But he looked at Jessica with murderous eyes. He had never treated her as anything more than an object, let alone with any humanity.

Perhaps it was because she had lived like a begging dog in the Jenner family in his eyes since she was a child, nothing had changed in twenty years.

There was no paternal affection; he had never even shown her any pity.

Joe had been watching from the doorway for a while and wasn't particularly surprised by Jessica's words.

In this world of power and prestige, there were many fathers who loved their daughters, raising them as princesses who were untouchable, each a precious gem.

But there were also many daughters who were sold out by their parents, usually unloved adopted daughters or daughters of mistresses who couldn't be shown in public, or children whose parents were so heartless that they didn't love them at all.

However, the unexpected arrival of a female police officer left Joe uncertain about Jessica's background or the officer's capabilities. He immediately tried to play the peacemaker and be the good guy. "Eugene, you're in the wrong here. We're just out for a meal. Why bring your daughter into this? This girl looks like she's full of thorns, probably just a misunderstanding. We're just having a simple meal, don't overthink it."

At the same time, Joe glanced at Cynthia. "This female officer looks unfamiliar. Which department are you from?"

Cynthia, however, acted as if she didn't hear him and didn't even turn her head.

Joe didn't feel awkward; he just smiled again and said, "This is really a big misunderstanding. Let's all disperse, shall we?"

Eugene caught Joe's hint and quickly said to the surrounding people, "It's just some family matters, nothing to see here. Security, escort everyone out, let's disperse quickly."

There were quite a few guests around, and although they couldn't see Jessica's face clearly or hear the conversation well, they were still making guesses based on the scene.

If Jessica's face were captured by these guests and posted online, it would likely cause another wave of inexplicable attention and negative information on Facebook.

Jessica didn't spare a glance behind her; she just kept her eyes on Eugene. Meeting her father's dagger-like gaze, she showed neither deliberate coldness nor the weakness he expected. "Family matters? The words 'family'  has no place between us. If you want to sell your daughter, go to your precious daughter at home. Stop disgusting me."

With that, to avoid being photographed by the people behind her, she turned and walked into the private room. Cynthia also turned sideways, giving Joe a warning look. Joe shrugged, indicating he wouldn't enter the room again. Only then did Cynthia followed her into the room, closing the door behind her.

If Eugene and Joe still cared about their reputation and didn't want the scandal to spread, they would deal with the guests and onlookers outside. Any news getting out would have a significant negative impact on them.

Cynthia glanced at the food and drinks on the table, then looked up at Jessica, who had walked to the window inside the room. "There are reporters outside the hotel. If I'm not mistaken, there are probably quite a few under this window as well."

Jessica stood by the window and looked out.

Sure enough.

Outside the only window, there were a dozen reporters with cameras waiting.

Eugene, uncertain of her current temperament and capabilities, had blocked the main entrance with reporters to prevent her from rushing out. As long as there were reporters, any news of her meeting with a certain vice president would immediately be spread by the media. This move was also a way to control Joe. Eugene had calculated everything, keeping both of them under his control.

Upon exposure, Joe's family would be in turmoil, and Jessica's reputation would be ruined.

He had even blocked her escape route if she tried to jump out of the window.

After all, this floor wasn't very high, and she could easily escape by jumping out.

But the place was surrounded by reporters.

He was so meticulous in his actions.

She even entertained the suspicion that, five years ago, the people who wanted her dead were not just Trinity and Linda. If Eugene had also been involved, would she have had any chance of surviving these years?

Cynthia had already walked over and saw Jessica standing there, looking at the people outside. A faint mocking smile appeared on her lips, as if mocking Eugene's relentless tactics against his daughter, and also mocking Jessica's bad luck in having such a father.

Knowing full well she was his biological daughter, yet he could still sell her so ruthlessly.

Jessica's hand gradually clenched into a fist, her inner hatred as intense as it was back then. She wished she had smashed not just a bottle but a knife on Eugene's head, and killing him with her own hands wouldn't be too much!

When she was a child, Trinity and Linda didn't treat her as a human being, and much of that was thanks to Eugene!

Jessica took a deep breath, the anger and pain in her chest making her wish she could sever all ties with the Jenner family immediately.
