Chapter 511 Gabriel had already taken Danielle over
Before boarding the plane, Jessica thought she would have to fly back looking like this. Fortunately, the suitcase she had brought from Xyleria to Washington was in the car. She didn't know when Gabriel had someone arrange it. She grabbed a set of clothes and changed in the airport lounge's dressing room. After a quick wash, she didn't even have time for skincare before rushing to board the plane.
Before the plane landed in Xyleria, Jessica still didn't feel it was real. If it weren't for her constantly reaching out to touch Gabriel's hand to feel his warm temperature, only to have him grip her hand back, reminding her that everything was real, she probably wouldn't have been able to drink a single glass of water during the journey.
It wasn't until they landed in Xyleria, breathing in the air of freedom, and seeing Wayne smiling outside the airport hall, that Jessica felt so excited she almost ran over to hug him.
Wayne had no idea he had narrowly escaped a life-threatening situation in Jessica's mind. He came over to help with her suitcase, still smiling. But when he met Jessica's bright, happy gaze, he was a bit confused about why she was so excited to see him. Being stared at for so long, Wayne couldn't help but get goosebumps and turned his eyes to meet Gabriel's gaze.
He thought, "Gabriel, Jessica has been staring at me the whole time. I swear I didn't flirt with her. Maybe my natural charm and good looks made her fall for me as soon as she got off the plane!"
Jessica didn't notice that Wayne was almost scared and stiff by her gaze.
For Jessica, having Landon nearby always gave her a sense of security. But when Landon was around, it usually meant something important was happening.
But when Wayne was around, it generally meant all was well, and nothing was happening.
It felt incredibly comforting.
"Mommy, Mommy!"
It happened to be the weekend when the car arrived at the Harriman family estate. Jessica got out of the car and saw Danielle running and jumping towards her. She quickly opened her arms and hugged Danielle, kissing and nibbling her. Smelling the milky scent on Danielle made her feel grounded and completely at ease.
It's strange; Danielle is already six years old and will start elementary school later this year. She weaned off milk when she was just over a year old, but she still always has a milky scent, better than any baby lotion or bath gel.
"Hee hee, Mommy, that tickles!" Danielle giggled as Jessica kissed and sniffed her, shrinking her neck and dodging in her arms while hugging Jessica's neck tightly.
"Mommy, kiss me again, kiss me one more time. How about Mommy holds you to sleep tonight?" Jessica only wanted to spend some mother-daughter time with Danielle, ignoring everything else—Washington, the Jenner family—nothing was more important than Danielle and Danielle's dad.
Danielle nodded vigorously, hugging Jessica's neck and exchanging kisses for a while. Michael and Seraphina walked over without interrupting. Seraphina smiled and said, "It's good to have you back. Danielle has been waking up crying at night, saying she misses Daddy and Mommy. Finally, she has her parents back."
Jessica patted Danielle's head and whispered in her ear, "Mommy will work less and spend more time with you, okay?"
"Okay! What about Daddy?" Danielle turned her little head towards Gabriel, reaching out her small hand and waving it in the air, "Daddy, Daddy!"
Gabriel took Danielle's outstretched hand, kissed it, and pretended not to hear their whispering, asking knowingly, "What about Daddy?"
"Daddy, will you stay home with Danielle and Mommy?" Danielle said, trying to lean her head closer.
Jessica moved her forward, intending for Gabriel to take her, but suddenly paused, remembering Gabriel's soft tissue injuries from jumping down three floors with her. Although he had recovered well, he still needed to be careful.
She paused slightly, but Gabriel had already taken Danielle. As soon as Danielle was in his arms, she quickly kissed his face, her eyes shining with pride at being held by Gabriel again.
Fred and Sarah had already called someone to take the luggage. They smiled and said Danielle was very sensible, always greeting the house staff and even bringing them water when they looked tired. She often ran into the kitchen, standing on tiptoe to help Sarah. When Michael took her to meet friends and family, she would greet the elders politely, being both well-mannered and adorable, making Michael's old friends envious.
Hearing this, Michael, who had been smiling, couldn't help but start beaming with pride, his expression showing the arrogance of someone who had been envied for a long time.
Seraphina rolled her eyes at him and suddenly slapped his arm.
Michael turned to snap but, meeting Seraphina's gaze, his eyebrows twitched. He held back, only grunting and continuing to smile proudly at Danielle.
Xyleria was damp and cold this season. Danielle, who had run out of the main hall without wearing much, was carried back inside by Gabriel.
Jessica walked towards the main hall, glancing back at Michael and Seraphina, then curiously looking at Sarah.
Sarah made a face and motioned with her mouth that they were used to it.
Jessica was surprised and mouthed, "Grandma has been living at home recently?"
Sarah nodded and mouthed back, "Yes!"
Jessica was delighted and whispered to Sarah, "So Grandma doesn't plan to leave anymore?"
Sarah replied, "I think so. Mrs. Harriman still scolds Mr. Harriman every day, but his temper has mellowed a lot. They've been apart for over twenty years, and now that they're both over eighty, they probably don't want to torment each other anymore. It's good for them to spend their twilight years together."
Sarah waved her hand, "But we can't point it out. Otherwise, they'd argue for the sake of face. Let's pretend we don't notice they've reconciled."
Jessica laughed and whispered, "I see Grandpa's temper has mellowed a lot."
Sarah clicked her tongue, "Exactly, only a wife can keep him in check."
