Chapter 228 Suddenly Pulled Towards Him

"Is everything inside resolved?" Jessica asked.

Gabriel didn't speak. He looked at her with a calm and dim gaze, which made her feel scared..

"Don't worry, Ms. Jenner. These tactics are quite common in both political and business circles. We'll handle it without any further impact," Wayne said while driving. He boldly added, "It's quite common for some people to try to send women to Mr. Harriman, but Mr. Harriman has never touched any of them."

Jessica remained silent.

Should she praise Gabriel for his self-restraint?

When Gabriel heard Wayne's unnecessary comment, he frowned and shot a cold glance towards the driver's seat.

Wayne saw it in the rearview mirror and immediately stopped smiling and joking, quickly shutting his mouth.

The atmosphere in the car suddenly returned to an eerie silence. Jessica didn't find it particularly strange, but out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Gabriel pressing his brow. Despite the spacious backseat of the Bentley, Gabriel who usually didn't keep his distance from her was now sitting close to the car door, not moving an inch towards the middle.

He was keeping his distance from her.

Gabriel had just come with the cold outside, and although the chill was gone, the subtle tension and faint warmth emanating from him were very noticeable to Jessica, who was now paying close attention.

After a while, Wayne glanced in the rearview mirror and asked, "Mr. Harriman, do you need to go to the hospital?"

Gabriel frowned again, rubbing his brow and remaining silent, ignoring him.

Wayne had no choice but to stay quiet and not ask further.

Jessica softly asked, "Did you drink the palate-cleansing coffee when you entered?"

In such clubs, it was common for servers to offer palate-cleansing coffee and some alcohol or cigarettes to distinguished guests. This was a standard service in high-end clubs and not unusual. If Gabriel hadn't thought much about it and drank the coffee upon entering, it wouldn't be surprising.

Even a small sip of that drugged coffee would have an effect.

Five years ago, she had only taken a small sip of mineral water.

She knew that feeling very well.

Gabriel still didn't speak, but the silence in the car continued.

As they approached the Urban Oasis Hotel, Gabriel didn't look at her. With his hand resting on his brow, he spoke in a cold, slightly hoarse tone, "Don't overthink tonight's events. Everything will be handled. Go back and rest early. There are significant issues from the investors to the producers and actors in your film. If you don't want to continue filming, you can leave anytime. Have Landon arrange a lawyer to terminate your contract; there won't be any problems."

"It's fine. We've already been filming for over a week. Modern dramas aren't that exhausting. I don't think they'll dare to mess with me now," Jessica said, somewhat meaningfully.

After all, Donna had seen firsthand the relationship between Gabriel and  Jessica today. It was clear they weren't just acquaintances. Given Donna's personality, she probably wouldn't dare to provoke her for the time being. Virgil and Alan's team, after today's incident, would also be cautious around her. No matter what troubles the crew had, they wouldn't affect her. Moreover, the pay wasn't low. She could just finish filming and leave; it didn't really matter.

Jessica had her own thoughts and considerations regarding her career. Gabriel didn't force her to leave the crew, respecting her choice, and didn't say much more on the matter.

As the car approached the Urban Oasis Hotel, it was about to pull into a temporary parking spot ahead.

Jessica glanced at Gabriel, noticing that his state seemed normal since getting into the car, yet there was something unusual about it.

She suddenly remembered when he was severely injured at her house. Despite his serious injuries, he insisted on getting up and leaving when she refused to let him stay. Just minutes later, he passed out from the pain, but moments before that, he was cold and composed as if he felt no pain at all.

Such a man.

Spencer.

Or Gabriel.

When she lost her composure and rushed to the third floor earlier, she knew exactly what she was doing.

Jessica's hand rested on the leather seat inside the car. In the dark, she slowly, bit by bit, moved her hand closer to Gabriel, who was trying to keep his distance from her, until her cool fingertips lightly touched his slightly warm ones.

Gabriel didn't move, but the sudden touch made him lower the hand that was resting on his brow. He turned his gaze, his dark eyes meeting her.

Jessica met his gaze without avoiding them. Her hand continued to move towards him. Her heart was racing, but she mustered the courage to reach for his fingers until Gabriel suddenly grabbed her hand tightly. Almost immediately, his grip was so strong that it caused her hand to ache slightly.

It was clear how much he was struggling to endure.

Jessica took a deep breath and suddenly said to Wayne, who was about to park the car at the Urban Oasis Hotel, "Wayne, don't go to the Urban Oasis Hotel."

Wayne had seen Jessica reaching out her hand in the rearview mirror earlier. He tried to stay quiet, focusing on driving and pretending to be oblivious.

He didn't respond but instead stepped on the gas, driving past the Urban Oasis Hotel without stopping, speeding forward.

After a few hundred meters, Wayne suddenly stopped the car under a seemingly broken streetlight. The area was very dark. As he unbuckled his seatbelt, he said in a serious tone, "Mr. Harriman, I'm sorry, but I suddenly have a craving for a cigarette. I'll go to the store to buy a pack."

With that, he decisively opened the car door and got out, thoughtfully leaving the electronic car key on the driver's seat.

The atmosphere inside the car instantly returned to darkness, filled with an indescribable tension and heat.

Wayne sudden got out of the car, making it all too obvious.

He must have seen her actions.

Jessica's earlier courage suddenly turned into a bit of awkwardness. The atmosphere of being caught yet deliberately ignored made her feel a mix of nervousness and heat. She suddenly regretted her actions and tried to pull her hand back, but Gabriel instantly sensed her intention to retreat.

He tightened his grip on her hand, as if to restrain her. Jessica's arm suddenly tensed, and she was abruptly pulled towards Gabriel.

She instinctively let out a sound, and her waist was grabbed by his hand, pulling her firmly against his chest, making her sit on his lap.

Her lips felt a sudden warmth as a forceful kiss met her.
