Chapter 183 The Face Was Unprecedentedly Cold
Jessica turned into the parking lot near Blue Bay Apartments, quickly found Mackenzie's car, searched around in the shadows beside the car, picked up a rectangular brick from the flower bed next to the parking lot and put it in her bag, opened the car door, got in directly, and drove off as soon as the engine started.
She called Cynthia while driving with headphones on.
"Cynthia, on River Street across from Blue Bay Apartments, a car with the license plate XA96734 is passing by. Find out which intersection he turned to, and if you can contact someone to intercept him halfway, do it first. He took a photo of Danielle."
Cynthia didn't ask much, just repeated, "River Street, XA96734?"
"Yes."
"Understood."
Three minutes later, Jessica received a call from Cynthia, "The car went straight to Central Avenue because of traffic, so it bypassed the roundabout and went to the other side of Breeze Street .This street is busy; the car can't go too fast. Are you chasing it? Don't chase it for now; it's not safe. I'll send someone to intercept."
"He may have other people in the car and could send the photo at any time. It's urgent." Jessica stepped hard on the gas pedal.
The car raced, and this was the fastest speed Jessica had driven since she started driving.
The call didn't end, and Cynthia was instructing her calmly while dealing with the people around her.
But Jessica didn't hear anything.
In her ears, it was the doctor's question five years ago when she was lying in a private maternity hospital.
"Ms. Jenner, we need a family member's signature before the abortion surgery."
"I don't have any family members."
"Then have a relative who visits you come and sign for you."
"I have no relatives, no loved ones."
The doctor looked at her sympathetically. "Are you sure you want to sign it yourself?"
She only had herself. Who else could sign for her?Loved ones?
She, indeed, had no loved ones.
When the doctor handed her the page that needed to be signed, Jessica looked at the content on it, looked at the place for the family member's signature, and suddenly lowered her head to look at her flat abdomen.
She never signed it in the end.
She left her only blood relative.
She was afraid that her decision would lead to unfair treatment for the little thing in her belly after birth, so she gave all her love to Danielle who could have the strict discipline of a father and the gentle companionship of a mother. She didn't give up her studies but also worked hard to give Danielle a stable and secure life.
She and Danielle depended on each other. Her little baby was over four years old, growing up safe and healthy, never disturbed by the outside world, never called a wild seed by anyone.
In a run-down rental house in Country M, Jessica got frostbite on her feet from distributing flyers in the cold weather. When she got home, she could hardly move due to the cold. Two-year-old Danielle came out with a small pink washbasin filled with warm water she had taken from the water heater. She clumsily brought it to Jessica and stuffed it into her small clothes while saying, "Mommy, wash your feet. The water is warm. Mommy, wash your feet."
When it was hot, the air conditioner in the rental house broke down. Uncle John, the landlord, went out, and no one came to fix it. There was no money to hire someone. Jessica fanned Danielle, who couldn't sleep because of the heat. Danielle held her hand and didn't want to be fanned, saying she wasn't hot, didn't want to be fanned, but Jessica remembered clearly that Danielle's little head was covered in sweat, wetting the pillow. Danielle insisted on saying she wasn't hot and wanted Mommy to sleep with her.
After returning to the country, Jessica used the signing fee Mackenzie gave her to buy a small house on the outskirts of Xyleria. Three-year-old Danielle stood in the old living room, excitedly saying, "Here, mommy, I want to put a big Peppa Pig carpet here! A big one that I can roll on!"
That was her daughter, her baby, her everything, the only light that had burst into her bewildered life, the only light!
Jessica gritted her teeth as she drove. She couldn't imagine what it would be like if Danielle was exposed and how those insults would fall on the child. Just the thought of those people using malicious language to insult Danielle, even just the words 'wild seed,' made her unable to control the urge to kill.
Why couldn't she protect her only light as a public figure?
Jessica headed to Breeze Street and noticed the slow-moving car due to the narrow, one-way road. She quickly caught up with the vehicle that had been speeding earlier. After entering Breeze Street, Jessica didn't slow down either. She gripped the steering wheel tightly, stepped hard on the gas pedal again, and rushed forward.
The car stopped near an internet cafe. Just as it stopped, the person in the vehicle with the camera was about to get out, intending to send the photo to the internet cafe first to get the money as soon as possible.
But as soon as the car stopped, before the door even opened, he suddenly saw a cool white Land Rover parked next to them.
A woman got out of that car.
Or rather, she rushed in this direction with an expressionless face.
'Why did she look so familiar?'
'Jessica Jenner?' the person thought.
The person in the car with the camera shuddered, subconsciously wanting to drive away quickly, but Jessica had already approached, raised the brick in her hand, and smashed it fiercely on the car door.
The already almost scrapped car door was instantly dented by the stone in the bag. The people around were scared and scattered by this scene. Before the car could escape, Jessica swiftly struck the window twice. As the glass shattered, she disregarded the risk of being cut by the shards, reached in, and seized the collar of the car's occupant. "Get out!"
The person in the car couldn't believe it. After all, Jessica was a female celebrity. How could someone who looked so delicate and boneless be so fierce?
And what weapon was in her bag?
The person was unprepared, and with such forceful pull, his chin and neck instantly pressed against the shattered edge of the car window. If she pulled down again, he could be cut in the throat by the broken glass on the window at any moment.
"Help! Murder! Someone's trying to kill me!"
Jessica remained silent, her face colder than ever. With her foot against the car door, she gripped him firmly to stabilize her action and maintain balance so he couldn't break free.
Onlookers were shocked, but no one dared to approach. Someone cautiously picked up their phone to call the police, and the scene turned chaotic.
Drops of blood slid down the edge of the car door; whether it was from Jessica's wrist being scratched or the person with the camera's chin being pierced, no one knew.
"Give me the camera!" Jessica saw him dodging while subconsciously protecting the camera and immediately pulled him harder outward!
