Chapter 316 What Exactly Did I Do That Night

Sarah was about to head out again but stopped in her tracks, not wanting to disturb Gabriel and Jessica.

Imogen, however, missed what Fred had said to Michael, only catching Michael's words: "Let them sleep."

Imogen thought, "Them? Who? The person Gabriel brought back last night?"

She asked, "Gabriel isn't up yet? That's not like him. Nicholas is already up, so how could he still be sleeping?"

Nicholas, hearing his name, pretended not to notice. Seeing Michael already eating, he casually picked up his knife and fork, not planning to say anything.

Michael, eating breakfast, glanced at Imogen and Kimberly, who hadn't touched their utensils. "It's just breakfast, and there are no outsiders here. No matter how independent Gabriel is outside, he's still my grandson. Does he need a reason to sleep in? If he wants to sleep, let him sleep."

Nicholas clicked his tongue. "I'm your grandson too; While I was dead tired, Sarah still dragged me out of bed."

Michael glared at him. "If you have the guts to bring a wife back to cuddle with, see if Sarah will still wake you up."

Nicholas rolled his eyes.

Michael's words might seem harsh, but Gabriel was even more cunning. He wasn't even here, yet he was clearly manipulating the situation with Michael's desire for a great-grandchild.

Imogen heard this and a trace of displeasure flashed in her eyes, but since the words came from Michael, she couldn't argue. She just smiled and said, "So Gabriel brought his girlfriend back? Young people nowadays do have a habit of sleeping in, but this is the Harriman family. It's really not proper to be so unruly. Besides, as his mother, I just returned to the country a few days ago. I should at least meet Gabriel's girlfriend. Do I have to wait for her to wake up?"

Michael, calm as ever, said, "Last time Jessica came, she got up quite early. She was polite and well-mannered. If she got up late today, you should ask Gabriel."

Nicholas suddenly choked.

Just now, he was teased for not bringing a wife back to cuddle with. This comment was low on harm but high on insult to a single person!

Imogen was momentarily stunned, awkwardly unable to say more. She turned to Kimberly, who hadn't touched her utensils, and said, "Let's eat."

Kimberly, who grew up in Y Country, had hardly eaten the food here. She looked at the oddly colored food in front of her, thoughtfully picked up the utensils, but eventually didn't eat. She took a fork and had some steak, but it was tasteless. She didn't show much expression, as she usually didn't eat much, and now she put it down after a few bites.

After a while, Michael looked at Kimberly. "Not used to it?"

"No, I'm just still adjusting to the time difference after returning to the country. My body and appetite might take a few days to recover. Grandpa Michael, you continue eating, don't mind me," Kimberly quickly said.

"Okay," Michael said lightly, "The Harriman family may be large, but we rarely have such precious food unless it's a festival or birthday banquet. Usually, it's just these. These are what I liked to eat when I was young, and everyone got used to eating them with me. If you're not used to it, you can ask the kitchen to make you a separate breakfast."

Kimberly shook her head again. "Thanks, Grandpa Michael, but there's no need to trouble them. I have to adapt to the local life sooner or later. I'll be fine in a few days."

Michael seemed pleased with her response and didn't say more. He turned to Sarah and said, "Sarah, don't wake Gabriel and Jessica, but skipping breakfast isn't good. Take some to them. Last time Jessica was here, she loved your sandwiches."

"Got it." Sarah smiled and quickly left.

Kimberly's smile faded a bit as she looked back at the food in front of her. After a moment, she picked up the utensils again and ate a bit more, but she really couldn't get used to it and put it down after a few bites.

Jessica had fallen asleep again in Gabriel's arms, but her internal clock woke her up shortly after. She vaguely heard a knock on the door.

She opened her eyes and saw Gabriel bringing in breakfast.

"Are your family rules so lenient? Sleeping in and still getting breakfast delivered?" Jessica asked lazily, lying in bed with the blanket.

Gabriel chuckled. "That's Grandpa Michael's leniency towards his future granddaughter-in-law. If Nicholas dared to sleep in like this, Grandpa would have stormed in with his cane by now."

Jessica laughed, got up to wash up, and then remembered last night's events. She quickly grabbed her phone to check.

At 2 AM last night, Cynthia finally replied to her on WhatsApp.

Cynthia: [Sorry, Jessica, something urgent came up before I could leave, so I couldn't make it. Mr. Harriman already called to let me know you're safe. Don't worry about Danielle, she's still enjoying the cookies I baked. I'll explain everything when I bring Danielle back tomorrow.]

Jessica finally relaxed and replied to Cynthia on WhatsApp.

Jessica: [It's okay, I understand. If it wasn't something major, you wouldn't have been held up. Don't worry!]

She then got out of bed to wash up. When she returned, she saw that Sarah had brought the same sandwiches she had eaten at the Harriman family last time.

That day, she had been busy drinking with Michael for his birthday. The next day, she felt uncomfortable and only felt better after eating the sandwiches. She didn't expect to see them again today after another night of drinking, and just looking at them made her feel warm and comforted.

She sat down to eat and said, "I don't usually drink much, but I drank too much last time at the Harriman family and made a fool of myself. Now I'm hungover again. Will Grandpa Michael think I'm an alcoholic?"

Gabriel wiped a bit of oil from the corner of her mouth. "No, Grandpa is very sharp. He won't judge someone based on just two brief meetings."

His fingers paused at the corner of her mouth, then he added, "Besides, he was the one who got you drunk last time."

She was surprised. "Why he did that?"

As she spoke, she saw the meaningful smile in Gabriel's eyes and immediately widened her eyes. "What did I do the last time I got drunk at the Harriman family?"
