Chapter 385: Although the Life-Saving Grace Should Be Earnestly Repaid
The next morning, Jessica was holding Danielle's little hand. The mother and daughter hid under the blanket, giggling and whispering for a while before Caroline called Danielle to get up, wash up, eat breakfast, and go to kindergarten.
It left little time for Jessica to rush to Blue Bay Apartments to cook for Gabriel, so she simply bought breakfast nearby and brought it over.
Some of the restaurants near Blue Bay Apartments had changed owners, just a few ones kept as before, with the same taste.
As she walked in with the breakfast, she momentarily forgot that there was a carpet right in front of the shoe mat inside Gabriel's door. She tripped over the edge of the carpet and, afraid of spilling the breakfast, instinctively raised the bag high, landing on her knees with a thud.
Gabriel happened to be walking through the living room with a glass of water. He saw Jessica at the door and said, "While it's reasonable to appreciate the one who saved your life, there's no need to kneel before me."
After saying that, Gabriel took a sip of water, calmly put down the glass, and walked over to help her.
Before he could reach her, Jessica had already stood up quickly, as if she hadn't heard Gabriel's teasing, and directly brought the breakfast to the dining table.
Gabriel's house used to have a carpet only around the sofa and coffee table. Later, because Danielle often came to play and loved rolling around on the carpet, he added two large carpets to the floor. Although he hadn't been home much in the past two years, someone regularly cleaned and tidied up, and nothing in his house had changed, including the two carpets that almost extended to the door.
"I spent some time with Danielle this morning, then ran some errands. It was too late to cook, so I bought breakfast. You can have some."
Gabriel didn't mind. As a patient, his days were mostly about eating and resting. He seemed quite content with this rare leisure. As he sat down at the dining table, he glanced at her.
"I already had breakfast with Danielle and Caroline," Jessica said as she opened the takeout boxes and pushed them in front of him. She then observed his movements as he ate to see if his injury had improved.
After breakfast, Gabriel received a call and then sat on the sofa with a tablet, looking at documents sent by his company. She went over to take his temperature to prevent a fever from an infection, lifted his collar to check the redness around the wound, and found it much better than yesterday. Although the wound itself was the same, the surrounding redness had reduced, indicating that the home doctor she called yesterday was quite good.
While helping Gabriel change clothes, she noticed some bruising on the back of his hand where the needle had been. It was likely either from him accidentally hitting it during the injection or from bathing last night, as she had been more focused on the wound on his back.
Jessica went to wash a towel with hot water and applied it to his hand. Gabriel continued to look at the documents on his tablet, seemingly unaffected. She realized he had gotten quite used to having her around.
In a moment of frustration, she used hotter water this time and pressed the towel onto his hand. When Gabriel looked at her, startled by the heat, she quickly realized she shouldn't take it out on an injured person. She waited for the towel to cool down a bit before continuing.
Her phone vibrated in her bag. Jessica put down the towel to answer it. It was Zoey asking if she planned to drive herself or be picked back to the set tomorrow.
Jessica's foot wasn't in good condition for driving.
After finalizing her travel plans for the next day, she hung up and placed the phone on the coffee table, picked up the towel, and headed back to the bathroom.
While Jessica was still in the bathroom, the phone on the coffee table buzzed again with another call.
She didn't hear it inside, and the phone vibrated for a long time before stopping, only to start buzzing again after a few seconds.
Gabriel's gaze shifted from his tablet to the phone on the coffee table, which displayed Mackenzie's name.
Jessica returned just then, heard the phone vibrating, and quickly answered it.
Two minutes later, Jessica put down the phone and saw Gabriel sitting quietly on the sofa. Gabriel was always particularly cold and serious when working, regardless of the situation. She picked up a magazine and started reading, sitting on the carpet like Danielle often did. After a while, she lay down on the carpet, holding the magazine up to read.
She realized that taking care of him at his home wasn't as troublesome as it was in the hospital. She should have brought her script to read. Without it, she had little interest in the financial magazine.
After flipping through it for a few minutes, Jessica fell asleep holding the magazine.
Returning to the set, she couldn't avoid being asked what had happened in San Francisco.
The high-profile murder case at the Golden Orchid Hotel had caused quite a stir. Some rumors had already spread domestically, especially since Jessica was a popular actress. She had been at the scene that night, got caught up in the incident, and injured her foot, leading to various versions of the story circulating in the entertainment media.
After a full day of filming, as she was about to head home in the evening, Lynn sent her some information.
"The box office for 'Against the Flow' is doing well. It has surpassed 700 million in three days, which is quite impressive. The film's team has arranged an online live stream tonight topay back the fans and continue promoting the movie. You'll need to change your makeup and outfit and head to the live stream. It will be from 7 to 8 PM."
Jessica glanced at the live stream platform information on Instagram.
It was already past 5 PM. She had planned to go to Blue Bay Apartments to make dinner for the injured Gabriel, but it seemed she would have to trouble Sarah again.
Worried about the busy schedule, Jessica asked Zoey to call Sarah while she headed to the makeup room.
At 7 PM, Jessica and the male lead of the currently screening movie "Against the Flow," Liam, arrived at the Xyleria CBD building and entered the live stream room to chat with fans.
They almost owned the same portion of the leading actors and actresses, so their schedules were the same.
However, ladies first. Jessica watched the livestream comments for a while, picked a few interesting questions to answer, and then cued the male lead, Liam, sitting next to her to answer. Taking advantage of the time when the focus was on Liam, she noticed Zoey waving at her and pointing to her phone.
Since it was still live streaming, Zoey's pointing must mean something important.
The live stream environment was quite relaxed, which allowed artists to take breaks and check their phones while free. Jessica glanced at the comments again, saw that most were discussing the male lead, and had Zoey bring her phone over.
