Chapter 202 Unattainable
Chapter 202 Unattainable
When the leaders actually got out of the car, the director and producer, who hadn't expected such a benefit, quickly stepped forward to greet and shake hands.
The staff and cast members present were all very excited. No matter how big the entertainment industry was, the most they could usually come into contact with were investors from the fashion and business worlds. It was hard to truly connect unless they reached the top tier. But these political bigwigs were rarely seen, and no matter how high one climbed, it was difficult to access such a high-level circle.
Even Donna, who prided herself on having Carl as her godfather, followed the director with a smile, trying hard to make her presence felt. Not to mention the other small actors, who had just taken the opportunity to touch up their makeup when no one was looking.
Jessica still hadn't fully recovered from the cold she caught after falling into the water that day. After each scene, besides listening to the director and reading the script, she almost always wanted to rest with her eyes closed in the car. Now that there was no filming, she couldn't wait to go back to the hotel to sleep.
She stood at the end of the crowd, glancing in the direction everyone was looking. Suddenly, she saw a business car stop, and Wayne got out from the passenger seat, respectfully walking to the back to open the door.
The moment Gabriel's cold and upright figure appeared in everyone's sight, Jessica casually raised her hand to her forehead as if it was itchy and kept covering it with her hand. She then slightly turned her body, trying to hide most of her face, and found a shaded spot to conceal herself.
"What's wrong?" Kevin, who had somehow ended up nearby, noticed Jessica's odd behavior and walked over to ask with concern.
Kevin, standing at six-foot-one height, was quite noticeable in the crowd. His presence easily drew attention in that direction.
Jessica, still covering her forehead, whispered, "Oh, nothing. I'm just allergic to UV rays, so I'm covering up."
Kevin asked, "Didn't you apply sunscreen before putting on makeup?"
"The director called it a wrap just now, so I removed my makeup when I got back to the car and didn't have time to reapply."
Kevin nodded in understanding and suddenly called over his assistant, who was wearing a hat. Without a word, he took the black hat from the assistant, adjusted the size, and placed it on Jessica's head.
Jessica was speechless.
"It still seems a bit big." Kevin held down Jessica's head as she was about to lift it, standing beside her and gently adjusting the hat's size on her head.
Gabriel got out of the car and walked with several leaders from the Xyleria Construction Bureau, talking in low voices. As they passed by the crew, who had automatically made way, the director quickly stepped forward to make his presence known.
Just as he was about to greet the legendary president of Harriman Group, Gabriel suddenly looked in a certain direction. His previously calm and composed face turned extremely cold, and even Wayne, who was following half a foot behind, felt the sudden icy aura emanating from Gabriel, making the air feel like it was filled with invisible shards of ice, causing an involuntary shiver.
At the end of the crowd, Kevin checked the hat on Jessica's head. "Although this style of hat is a bit big, it has good sun protection. Just wear it for now."
Jessica, not quite used to the enthusiasm of this recently popular actor, instinctively pressed the brim of the hat down, took a step to the side to maintain some distance, and said, "Thanks."
"You're welcome. UV allergies can be really uncomfortable. If you scratch your skin, putting on makeup will be a nightmare."
Jessica nodded as if she agreed deeply, not paying attention to the front. She instinctively pressed the brim of her hat down further, thinking, 'I've already put on the hat; why are you still here? If you want to stir up rumors, go find Donna. Please don't come to me; as a single mother, I really can't handle it."
Kevin seemed oblivious to her distant demeanor and continued to stand beside her. His tall frame effectively shielded her from the crowd, providing Jessica with a good cover.
Well, that was at least her one-sided assumption.
"These people who came are all prominent figures in Xyleria. It's rare to even see them," Kevin suddenly started explaining, "The two in front should be the directors of the Xyleria Construction Bureau and Resource Bureau. The ones walking and chatting leisurely behind them are also not ordinary people. Especially that one wearing the dark brown leather jacket is a famous real estate developer in Xyleria."
Jessica responded perfunctorily, "They all sound impressive."
"The one in the crowd is even rarer to see," Kevin said, nodding in that direction with his chin. "Gabriel, Chairman and CEO of the Harriman Group."
Jessica nodded earnestly. "It's impressive that you recognize such a rare figure."
Kevin chuckled. "Although I love acting, my father has some business in Xyleria. While I don't usually get to interact with people like Mr. Harriman, I've picked up a few things about the business world."
Jessica glanced at him again. "So you're one of those who will inherit billions if you don't act?"
Kevin laughed. "It's not that exaggerated. If I had billions, would I need to act opposite female actors? Self-torture?"
Jessica didn't know how to respond.
She held back her laughter, but even the faintest smile after whispering with Kevin was very noticeable in the crowd.
Donna, who had been eavesdropping nearby for a while, suddenly turned her head and interjected coldly, "Kevin, is acting with me that painful? Then, during the show's promotion, when you have to convey to fans that you're dating me, isn't that even more painful? Should I just tell everyone now that you and Jessica are a couple?"
Kevin glanced at her, smiled faintly, and showed no embarrassment from being caught. He didn't bother to explain his words either.
He simply didn't take her seriously.
Donna was infuriated and coldly glanced at Jessica, sneering, "What's the point of explaining all this to someone like her? Even if you push her in front of those people, she won't recognize any of them. Especially for someone like Mr. Harriman, who is a high-ranking person, when she stands in front of him, she looks like his servant unable to make it to the stage and can't even find the social ladder to climb up."
The director, who was in front, said something that caught the attention of a few leaders. He suddenly smiled and pointed towards the back of the crowd. "What a coincidence, the three main actors are standing right there. Young people these days are too shy to present themselves in public. Don't mind them."
In an instant, the eyes of the bigwigs in front turned directly towards their direction.
