Chapter 219 Mr. Harriman Only Booked One Room
Chapter 219 Mr. Harriman Only Booked One Room
The sound of water in the bathroom stopped. Gabriel put his clothes back on, buttoning his shirt one by one. As he did so, he glanced casually at the mirror in the bathroom.
The bite mark on his shoulderby Jessica, though no longer bleeding, was still slightly red.
The mark was irregular due to the haste of the bite, but coincidentally, it was in the same spot as the bite mark left by a woman on his shoulder during that dark and chaotic night five years ago.
Even the force and manner of the bite were identical.
Jessica had already changed her clothes outside. Upon hearing the doorbell, she instinctively asked, "Who is it?"
Gabriel finished buttoning his shirt and walked out. The bathroom was close to the door, so he opened it directly.
A hotel staff member pushed a dining cart in, along with two bottles of fine Lafite wine. After nodding respectfully to Gabriel, the staff member left.
Jessica peeked towards the door and saw the dining cart. "I thought you were going to take me out to eat."
"In your current state, can you go out?" Gabriel closed the door and pushed the dining cart over, noticing that although Jessica had changed her clothes, her half-dry hair was softly draped over her shoulders, making her look very obedient.
Today, Jessica was indeed distracted, but she was also more well-behaved than usual.
She sat quietly on the edge of the bed, with a look of someone was waiting to be fed.
She also noticed that Gabriel's shirt was from Dior, and it seemed to match the one she was wearing, almost like a couple's outfit.
However, he rarely wore such common luxury brands. She had noticed before that most of Gabriel's clothes were custom-made by top foreign designers, rarely showing any obvious brand logos. Any random shirt he wore was worth much more than this $1,000 Dior shirt, although Dior looked great, too. The one he was wearing now was one of the most gentlemanly and understated styles among men's luxury brands, which suited him well.
Gabriel just stood there, exuding a calm and composed demeanor that was unmatched.
"The culinary skills of the kitchen staff at this hotel are average," Gabriel said, placing the dining cart in front of her. "I didn't order anything too extravagant, just something simple."
Jessica was curious about what Gabriel considered simple.
Like the bland and tasteless soup she made at her house?
But she was so hungry now that she wouldn't refuse even soup.
She reached out and lifted the lid on the dining cart, revealing a variety of dishes, along with two bottles of fine wine and mineral water.
Was this called eating simply?
Sunshine Bay City, being a small tourist town, didn't have any special cuisine yet. Most of the food was influenced by Xyleria. Besides exotic delicacies, the best home-cooked dishes were just these.
Although they looked simple and easy to digest, they were far from simple.
"So, shall I start?" Jessica picked up the utensils and looked up at Gabriel standing over her by the dining cart.
"If you don't eat, are you just going to stare at it?" Gabriel poured a glass of water.
Jessica lowered her head and started eating a piece of steak directly. Gabriel was right; the hotel's kitchen was indeed average.
Although the food was delicious, it was far inferior to the braised steak Gabriel had made at her house.
After eating for a while, Jessica suddenly turned her eyes to the wine on the dining cart. Seeing the Lafite label, her eyes lit up.
"Want some?"
She looked up. "Can I?"
"The wine is complimentary from the hotel, but you have injuries."
Gabriel's response was tactful, not a complete refusal. After all, a little red wine wouldn't really hurt.
Jessica continued to stuff food into her mouth while glancing at the two bottles of wine. She couldn't see the vintage, so they probably weren't too expensive. She still wanted to drink it but hesitated and kept eating in silence.
Perhaps her longing was too obvious. She knew a little wine wouldn't get her drunk, but she rarely had the urge to drink.
As she was battling with the steak, she suddenly heard the sound of a wine bottle being opened. When she looked up after finishing the steak, Gabriel had already poured half a glass of red wine into a goblet, replacing the water.
"Drink a little; it will help you sleep better tonight." Gabriel put down the wine bottle, his actions and demeanor so natural that it seemed like indulging her was a common occurrence.
Jessica quickly picked up the goblet and took a sip. It tasted wonderful, with a semi-sweet flavor that hid the quality of the fine wine, leaving her completely satisfied.
"Aren't you going to have some?" Jessica glanced at him.
After their conversation earlier, even if Gabriel just stood there, his calm and direct gaze made her feel inexplicably restless.
Gabriel said, "I only booked one room."
Jessica was stunned.
"I didn't plan on booking another one tonight," Gabriel said in a low, seductive voice. "Wine is still alcohol. Are you sure you want me to drink?"
"Jessica, am I too restrained? Do you feel too safe with me?"
Jessica suddenly choked on the wine and quickly grabbed a spoonful of soup to swallow.
Her face, which had been slightly pale, now had a suspicious blush. Gabriel didn't say anything more, but his gaze was as dark as the midnight sea—calm and unfathomable.
Jessica averted her eyesight while eating, then silently touched the wound on her forehead, reminding him that she was still an injured patient.
Gabriel reached out and pressed her head gently. "Does the wound hurt?"
"It's okay, but... ouch, don't touch..."
Gabriel withdrew his hand. "We'll go to the hospital for a check-up tomorrow morning. Don't resist the doctors again."
"Okay."
"How many times have I helped you with your injuries?" Gabriel brushed back the hair that had fallen onto her forehead and looked down at her. "You carry pepper spray with you, which shows good awareness of danger, but you still end up with all these injuries. When will you be able to make me less worried?"
She didn't want it to be like this.
Trinity and Linda wanted her to die, Stanley's son also wanted her dead. The fact that she was still alive and sitting here eating was a testament to her resilience. She had to admit that if it weren't for Gabriel today, she wouldn't know where she would be now.
Jessica's mental state was much worse than usual today. Not long after dinner, even though she had only drunk half a glass of wine, it had some effect. She soon fell asleep leaning against the bed, more peacefully than when she had curled up with the blanket earlier.
Gabriel picked her up and laid her flat in the middle of the bed, covering her with the blanket. He gently touched the area around the bandaged wound on her forehead. Although there was no injury there, the swelling was obvious clearly indicating how brutally the scene must have been when she repeatedly hit her head against the car door.
