Chapter 78 Ears Quickly Warming

"Please," Jessica closed her eyes, her hands still tightly embracing the man's body, holding onto his neck tightly. "Don't go."

Her hands remained in this tight embrace for more than ten seconds, before they were suddenly brought into the slightly cold embrace of the man.

Jessica quickly snuggled up to him, murmuring again, "My stomach hurts."
Gabriel glanced lowly at the vulnerable woman in her dream, as if she had shed her usual armor of resilience. Upon hearing her words in her sleep, he initially thought she had caught a cold, which caused her stomachache. He reached his hand into the blanket and placed it on her slightly cold abdomen.

His palm seemed to radiate a continuous warmth, causing Jessica to instinctively move closer to him, pressing her stomach against his hand, as if afraid he would suddenly move it away.

At first, Gabriel didn't understand the reason for her stomachache. Then, as if he had grasped something, he looked at her again. He kept one hand on her belly and reached for a glass of cold water on the bedside table.

The water in the glass was cold.

After some contemplation, he settled Jessica comfortably, making sure her blanket was securely covering her. Just as he was about to get up, Jessica grabbed his finger uncomfortably, displeased that his hand was no longer warming her stomach.

He had to exert some force to pull away each time she grasped his fingers. He finally managed to free his hand and tuck it back into the covers.

Ten minutes later, Gabriel came back with freshly boiled water, pouring it into the glass. The water was still hot, so there was no need to wake her up immediately. He glanced at her, lying on the bed, unintentionally kicking the blanket away again. Even in her dreams, her eyebrows were still tightly furrowed due to discomfort.

He went over and covered her again, but just like before, Jessica quickly grasped his hand as if she had a natural instinct. Gabriel initially intended to pull away, but she unconsciously turned her body, attempting to fold into his arms. Her lips pressed against his arm, sending a tingling, soft and warm sensation.

Gabriel paused for a moment, his deep black eyes fixed on her . Instead of pulling away, his hand moved back toward her abdomen, while his other hand lifted up her blanket slightly.

When the water temperature was right, Gabriel woke up Jessica and had her drink the hot water.

Jessica was still a bit dazed, half awake, as she sat up and looked at the cup of water handed to her. She was indeed thirsty and drank more than half of it before pushing the cup away, indicating she couldn't drink anymore and wanted to go back to sleep.

She had been working consecutive late nights on the set, despite the severe lack of sleep, she could still manage. However, the pain from her period had finally knocked her down.

Gabriel asked if she had brown sugar at home, and Jessica absentmindedly gestured towards the kitchen. Then, she fell back asleep.

As she gradually fell into a peaceful sleep, Gabriel, who had been kept awake by her, found a bag of brown sugar in her kitchen cabinet. He made a cup of brown sugar water for her and forced her to wake up and drink the entire cup.
Jessica was awoken twice in the middle of the night, and drank a lot of water. The first time she woke up, she was still groggy. The second time she woke up, she was already fully awake and saw Gabriel making hot brown sugar water for her. Her heart warmed at the sight, and she quickly pretended she was still asleep, hurriedly drank the brown sugar water, and quickly went back to bed, pulling the blanket over her face.

This habit of covering herself with a blanket was shared by both Jessica and her daughter.

The next morning, Jessica, who had been forced to drink two glasses of water, naturally woke up feeling uncomfortable. She got out of bed with a stiff neck and walked out of the children's room.

Last night, she had only been having nightmares, she hadn't been drunk or lost her memory. Many images gradually became clear in her mind, and she walked straight to the bathroom as if nothing had happened.

Gabriel had given the master bedroom to Danielle to sleep in and had taken care of Jessica all night. He didn't feel tired at the moment, and when he saw Jessica hastily running out of the children's room early in the morning and quickly slipping into the bathroom, he followed her with his eyes.

Not long after, Jessica rushed out of the bathroom again, as if she hadn't seen him, and walked back to the children's room with a stiff neck. The sound of the door closing came along with the sound of the door being locked from the inside.

Gabriel pinched his brow bone with his hand. He had taken care of her all night, but he hadn't expected to be looked down upon by her.

The next day, Landon called.

Jessica brought Danielle back into the children's room, holding cartoon flashcards to teach her how to recognize characters, and the door was still closed.

In the past two days, besides occasionally eating take-out or being fed by Gabriel, they tried their best not to leave the room.

It was embarrassing when she was showering, but he even found out about her period.

Although Spencer acted as if nothing had happened, Jessica couldn't bear to face him. She would avoid him whenever she could.

Gabriel stood by the window in the master bedroom, looking out at the distant direction where the silver building stood among the clouds in the white fog. This place was far from the city center, and ordinary buildings were barely visible in the white fog. Only Xyleria, the 68-story city landmark, stood tall in the center of the city, a fully modernized metal structure building that reached into the sky.

Landon's voice came from the cellphone, "According to the surveillance footage on the day of the bridge collapse, there were no abnormalities on the bridge before and after Miss Jenner's nanny’s car fell into the river. The doctor's diagnosis showed that the driver of the offending vehicle had a high alcohol concentration in their body, clearly indicating drunk driving, and reaching the level of being intoxicated."

Landon looked at the documents in his hand and continued with a serious tone, "But I investigated the events of the day, including all the footage from his car's recorder. He had a family, and there were no arguments before the accident. He didn't have any social gatherings with friends, and there were no incidents involving his relatives. He wasn't someone who drank heavily, so there was no sudden reason or motive for him to consume a large amount of high-concentration alcohol. This is quite strange."

Gabriel paused for a moment before getting to the point, "High-concentration alcohol?"

"Yes, the doctor found a significant amount of high-concentration alcohol in his body. It's obvious that he intentionally forced himself to get drunk, or purposely created a scene of drunk driving and accidental collision," Landon said in a low voice. "I've checked all of his bank accounts, including those of his wife, children, and close relatives, and there doesn't seem to be any suspicious funds. However, his son seems to be preparing to switch to an elite school. Although it hasn't happened yet, the procedure is already in progress. With their current financial situation, it's impossible for them to afford the annual tuition of several hundred thousand dollars at such an elite school."

Gabriel's voice was calm as he said, "Arrange for people inside and outside the hospital to keep an eye on the driver responsible for the incident. No one, including his family, is allowed near the ICU until he wakes up. If anyone tries to forcibly visit, target them directly."

Landon responded with an "Understood."
