Chapter 506 When Did Gabriel Wake Up

She grabbed the phone tightly. Just as his electric baton was about to strike her again, she suddenly struggled with all her might, causing the car to shake and plummet.

"Ah!" The driver's hand trembled. With the car's shaking, the electric baton fell and hit Jessica's calf instead.

The excruciating pain in her leg bone made Jessica's already pale face instantly lose all color.

The driver pressed her down, trying to stop her struggle. "Don't move! Stay still."

But it was too late. As Jessica instinctively struggled from the pain, she kept stabbing towards him with her remaining strength. The force he used to press her down, combined with her own weight against the windshield, caused the car to lose balance completely and plunge towards the rushing river below.

As the car fell, one of the doors had already opened, and the icy cold river water rushed in. The two kidnappers, apart from some minor injuries inflicted by Jessica's knife, were not seriously hurt. Facing her desperate struggle, they quickly escaped through the car door to avoid being trapped inside.

Jessica bit her tongue hard to keep herself from passing out. The cold water stimulated her, and the river water quickly filled her nasal cavity. She looked towards the open car door, gritting her teeth and using the knife to stab at anything inside the car that could give her leverage, pulling herself away from the windshield. But the freezing cold river water mercilessly robbed her of oxygen and breath. She tried to keep her eyes open, but her body couldn't withstand the prolonged torment. Oxygen was running out, and her consciousness was almost numb from the cold water.

In the river, her mouth and eyes wouldn't open, and her consciousness grew heavier.

Images flashed through her mind like a slideshow. She saw Danielle riding a toy horse in front of Michael and Seraphina, asking, "When will Mommy and Daddy come back?" She saw Gabriel breaking a window with a chair and jumping from the third floor with her in his arms during a fire. She saw Cynthia, cold and professional on the outside, yet soft-hearted. She saw Mackenzie, Lynn, Zoey. She saw the Bentley parked by the roadside that night seven years ago. She saw her younger self returning to her still-alive mother's bedside, holding a large bunch of baby's breath flowers picked from the trash bin downstairs, asking her mother if they were pretty.

No way. Gabriel and Danielle were still waiting for her. She couldn't die.

But her body kept sinking, and her thoughts gradually submerged into darkness.

"Awake?"

A voice sounded by her ear. Jessica opened her eyes, feeling an unbearable soreness all over her body. She turned her head slightly in her hazy consciousness, seeing Samuel's face.

How could it be him?

Samuel looked at her steadily. After confirming she was truly awake, he seemed to read her wariness and distrust. He didn't reach out to help her, only saying, "I'll call the nurse to give you something to drink. You're still running a fever."

With that, he quickly left the ward.

It had only been about ten days, and she woke up in a hospital room again. As Jessica gradually regained her consciousness, she remembered what happened. She hadn't died in the river.

When she tried to move, the pain in her calf where the electric baton had struck made her shiver uncontrollably. The pain iall over her body was indescribable. Coupled with the weakness from fever and dehydration, she couldn't even sit up.

In the end, Jessica lay weakly on the hospital bed, looking around to confirm that this wasn't the same hospital room she had stayed in before.

The door to the ward opened and closed. A nurse came in, followed by another person who glanced into the room.

Landon walked in, and Samuel looked in from outside the door but didn't enter.

The nurse first gave Jessica some water to drink, then changed the IV bag, leaving only Landon in the room.

Jessica didn't speak, just looked at Landon, who also remained silent, walking to the bedside and looking at her.

In the silent confrontation, Jessica closed her eyes. Despite the pain all over her body, her heart settled completely in an instant.

Landon said softly, "Mrs. Harriman, you already guessed, didn't you?"

Jessica took a few breaths before saying, "Samuel is one of yours? The first time I visited Mr. Jenner in the hospital, his gaze at the door made me very resistant. But when I was almost caught, he and Gabriel appeared just at the same time. He had already found my phone's location, fearing that Gabriel might be intercepted outside the hospital, so he wanted to bring me back to Mr. Jenner's ward to hide, right?"

Landon neither nodded nor shook his head but silently confirmed.

She continued, "And later, during the few times he encountered me at home, Samuel subtly reminded me that Eugene posed no threat to me as long as I followed his direction. But he also subtly hinted that there was no need for genuine feelings in this father-daughter relationship, just self-preservation was enough."

Jessica's voice was hoarse and tired. "As for Rebecca, she must have met him at the Jenner family home long ago, which is why she had no guard against me from the beginning and believed I was someone who could genuinely help her. Given Rebecca and her mother's humble life in the Jenner family for so many years, she shouldn't be so naive and should have been wary of me, but she wasn't. It indicated that someone had already told her about me."

She continued, "There were many signs, not very obvious. But Aaron's sudden impulsive actions in the days before the fire indicated that Eugene and Samuel must have done something in private, forcing him to act ruthlessly. But the real instigator behind this wasn't Samuel, it was..."

Jessica paused. "Right, the phone I took from the kidnapper."

Landon quickly said, "Mrs. Harriman, don't worry. When we rescued you from the water, you were semi-conscious, but you stubbornly held onto the phone. We've already taken the phone for repairing. Once it finished, all data and call records will be restored. You did well."

Relieved, Jessica suddenly looked at him steadily and asked, word by word, with clear consciousness, "So, when did Gabriel wake up?"
