Chapter 187 Do You Want Me Directly
Chapter 187 Do You Want Me Directly
Gabriel always exuded a reassuring strength, a strange sense of security.
It was as though that even if the sky had fallen, but with just one upward glance, one sideways look from him, all would be well and unharmed, and everything bad would be ignored.
If Jessica's heartbeat wasn't so fast right now, everything would be fine.
But Her heart was beating irregularly, definitely, because he could still look so handsome from this angle; it was really too excessive!
Their eyes met for about twenty seconds. Jessica suddenly came to her senses, propped herself up, and quickly sat upright and proper next to him as if nothing had happened just now.
Jessica noticed that the car drove directly into the underground parking lot of Blue Bay Apartments. Before getting out of the car, she said, "Since you've brought me here, would you two mind joining me for a meal? Although it's just a simple home-cooked meal, Caroline's cooking skills are a hundred times better than mine, worth a try."
Landon, in the driver's seat, immediately replied, "I have to go back to the office for overtime, so I'll pass for now."
Jessica turned to Landon, but addressed Gabriel, "It's already so late, how can a boss like you exploit your employees' labor like this? Why not have dinner first before going back to work?"
Landon responded, "Thank you, Mrs. Jenner, but there's no need to be so polite."
"I'm not being polite. If it weren't for the lawyer you brought to defend and bail me out at the police station, I might have spent the night there with that person. I owe you quite a favor today." Jessica sincerely thanked.
"The lawyer was hired by Mr. Harriman. I just ran errands in between." Landon chuckled. "I really do need to go back to the office for overtime. I rushed out this afternoon and still have a lot of work unfinished."
Jessica was understanding and didn't press him further. "I won't delay your work then. How about I treat you alone another day?"
She deliberately added the word 'alone.'
Landon thought to himself, 'I have no grievances with you, Mrs. Jenner. Why do you have to harm me like this?'
In an instant, Landon, with a strong desire to survive, said, "Let's forget about dinner, Mrs. Jenner. How about you help me out and ask Mr. Harriman to give me a weekend off?"
Jessica raised an eyebrow at his words, then looked at Gabriel, who remained silent but exuded a strong presence.
After a brief silence, Gabriel, with his usual reserved demeanor, casually nodded in Landon's direction. Through the rearview mirror, Landon met the his clear and sharp gaze and coughed. "I was just speaking casually."
Gabriel replied with just two words, "It's approved."
Landon had been walking on thin ice because of Jessica's words. Hearing Gabriel's words, he felt an instant relief and said, "Thank you, Mr. Harriman, thank you, Mrs. Jenner."
Gabriel still maintained his economical way of speaking and coldly responded, "Alright."
Jessica smiled and said, "Well then, Mr. Wilson has something to attend to today, so Mr. Harriman, Let's... "
She wanted to say, "Let's all go our separate ways."
Gabriel said, "Mrs. Jenner, you've extended such a warm invitation, how can I resufe?."
Jessica fell silent.
She turned to Gabriel, who was sitting next to her in the back seat of the car, and met his gaze in the dark, unlit interior.
One second, two seconds, three seconds.
Gabriel sat upright, his eyes revealing no emotions, but just as Jessica was about to complete the sentence,he said with a half-smile, "Not welcoming?"
"Welcome, very welcome, Mr. Harriman. How could I not welcome you!"
Gabriel, a master at free meals, how could she not welcome him!
As Jessica got out of the car, she waved warmly and politely to Landon in the driver's seat, muttering about making plans for another day. After Gabriel got out of the car, Landon drove off as if escaping.
While waiting for the elevator in the underground parking lot, Jessica pressed the elevator button. Then she stepped back to Gabriel's side, watching the decreasing numbers ahead and asking, "Landon drove off. Is your place close to Blue Bay Apartments? It's so late. How will you get back later?"
Gabriel replied, "It's close."
Understanding, Jessica didn't ask further.
She had noticed other neighborhoods nearby, and the different apartments near Blue Bay Apartments were also very nice. She estimated that he had several houses in this area, so it didn't matter where he lived.
"In that case, why don't you rent Blue Bay Apartments to me? I've been living here for a while, and Danielle's kindergarten is temporarily fixed nearby. It's better not to keep changing places, as the child won't adapt well."
Jessica began to advocate for her right to live there.
"If you still remember the hundredfold repayment and don't intend to argue about rent with me, let's compromise. I won't pay the rent this year. But letting me live here for free all the time, I can't feel at ease with that. It's October now, and starting from January next year, I'll pay rent directly for a year. Is that acceptable?"
Gabriel calmly said, "Whether you pay or not, I won't accept it. Just live at ease."
Upon hearing this, Jessica turned to him. "Although I won't bring up that matter again, I have to mention it this time. You don't need to indulge me just because I saved you before. Are you planning to let ne be exploited without limits in the future? Although it's easy for you, Mr. Harriman, what about your principles?"
Gabriel candidly replied, "Do I need principles to be kind to you?"
Jessica was caught off guard by his words, her ears burning, her mind in a whirl. It took her a while to respond, "I... I'm an adult. At least I can understand some things. But if this continues, Danielle will be spoiled by you. She is in a period of innocence when they come into contact with life and material things. I have to provide her with a good environment, such as self-sufficiency, not taking advantage of others casually, and so on..."
Jessica just had a look of not listening, absolutely needing to draw a clear line between them and not be entangled like this.
Gabriel said, "My life is yours. You don't want my money. You won't take my card, and you won't live in the apartment. Do you want me directly?"
Jessica was speechless and unable to respond, and before she could retort appropriately, the elevator doors opened.
Without further ado, Gabriel avoided her bandaged wrist, took her arm, and led her into the elevator.
After Jessica entered the elevator, she remained silent for a long time.
Her head was buzzing with Gabriel's words just now. "My life is yours... Do you want me directly?"
She thought, 'I didn't thought that way!
'I hadn't!
'But why does that sentence keep echoing in my mind?'
Even when the elevator stopped on the thirty-first floor, she still couldn't shake off those words from her mind.
Fortunately, Gabriel didn't continue to attack her currently small-capacity brain. He took her out of the elevator like carrying a little chick before she could recover.
