Chapter 374 Not Only Did She Drink It, She Swallowed It Too

But still, Jessica didn't feel quite right. Undressing Gabriel while he was unconscious was something she could do two years ago, but it was different now.

However, Gabriel was such a clean person that if the blood around his neck and back wasn't cleaned up, he probably wouldn't feel comfortable.

Jessica decided to unbutton a few buttons of his hospital gown. She saw that the medical staff had already disinfected and cleaned the area around his neck and back during the emergency treatment. There were only a few spots of blood on his chest, not much and not very noticeable, indicating that the medical staff had been quite thorough.

After washing the towel twice, she helped him clean up and buttoned his hospital gown back up.

After finishing all this, she sat back in the chair and looked at Gabriel's peaceful sleeping face.

Probably because she finally relaxed a bit, she leaned against the white table by the bed, propped her arm on the corner of the table, and closed her eyes for a moment, hoping to give her long-tense emotions a better rest.

As a result, she almost fell off the chair after less than half an hour of sleep. She quickly sat up straight, glanced at the slippery corner of the table, and moved closer to the bed. She originally wanted to lie down by the bed and close her eyes for a while, but as soon as her arm touched the edge of the bed, Gabriel's hand suddenly moved over and pressed it.

Jessica paused, her first instinct was not to push his hand away but to look in surprise at Gabriel, who still had his eyes closed. "The doctor said you wouldn't wake up for at least another three or four hours. How did you wake up so quickly?"

Gabriel still had his eyes closed but weakly said, "The duration of anesthesia-induced sleep varies from person to person. I should have slept long enough."

Although she could hear him clearly, his voice was obviously weak and hoarse. After saying just one short sentence, he was too exhausted to speak again.

Jessica turned to the white clock in the ward. It had indeed been two or three hours since he was taken to the emergency room.

She quickly sat up straight, then remembered to pull her hand out from under his. Seeing him lying there with his eyes closed, seemingly too weak to open them, she softly asked, "Is there anywhere you feel uncomfortable? Do you need me to call the doctor?"

Gabriel was silent for a moment before hoarsely saying, "No need. I heard the doctor. It's not that serious. No need to be so tense."

The effects of anesthesia indeed varied. Some people slept so deeply that they wouldn't feel anything even if someone stabbed them, while others couldn't open their eyes but could still sense movements around them.

So he knew she had just helped him clean his body?

The air instantly fell into a prolonged silence.

Jessica didn't say anything more. Now that his assistant and the people around him hadn't come, and she had no one else with her, the two of them were in the hospital room without phones or IDs. They had just gone through a major crisis, but Gabriel's few low, calm words after waking up instantly calmed the countless waves of fear and panic in her heart.

Probably because she was too quiet, Gabriel, who had been keeping his eyes closed, opened them and turned his head to her.

Jessica had no idea what she looked like at the moment. Since the incident, she only knew that both she and Gabriel had survived, but she didn't know if the blood on her body had been completely cleaned. The nurse who treated her wounds had only found her a clean set of clothes to wear. Her hair was messy. Although she wasn't seriously injured, her complexion wasn't much better than Gabriel's on the hospital bed.

Seeing her looking like she had lost her soul and barely found it again, Gabriel seemed to want to check if her foot was really injured, but with just a slight movement, he frowned because of the wound on his neck.

Jessica noticed his movement and quickly shook her foot to show that it was no big deal. "Don't move. I'm fine. It's just a few pieces of broken glass from the lamp. It's already bandaged. Look, it's not serious at all."

He didn't move again, and his frown relaxed when he saw her worried expression. Despite his weakness, his faint, hoarse voice inexplicably carried a hint of teasing that Jessica could hear. "Are you scared?"

"No." Jessica's face was resolute.

In her heart, she wasn't very confident. She was indeed scared but didn't want to show it.

She simply stood up suddenly, got a cup of water, and brought it back to him. She wanted to help him drink, but when she opened the drawer by the hospital bed to find a disposable spoon, there was none. She looked for a straw, but there wasn't one either, so she had to give up.

She couldn't help him sit up now. The wound absolutely couldn't be moved, and he couldn't drink water lying down.

She glanced at Gabriel, who was clearly a bit thirsty, thought for a moment, and then raised the cup to her lips and drank it herself under Gabriel's gaze.

Not only did she drink it, but she also swallowed it.

She had no intention of finding some unusual way to feed him.

He watched as she drank all the water she had fetched for him in one go and then casually place the empty cup on the table by the bed.

Gabriel looked at her for a moment. The instinctive thirst after the anesthesia wore off became even more intense. "Your way of taking care of patients is too perfunctory."

"The way you save people is too reckless," Jessica said, raising her voice a bit.

He didn't say anything more, just looked at her.

Or rather, scrutinized her.

Gabriel lay on the hospital bed, his hair unusually a bit messy, his gaze on her, hiding a sharpness in its depth that she couldn't decipher, as if trying to pierce through something in her eyes.

Jessica sat for a moment longer, meeting his gaze.

He should be indifferent and disdainful towards her.

Even if they occasionally met, it was in situations where they didn't need to greet each other, which didn't surprise her at all. Being like strangers was the path she had chosen.

'But what was this now?' Jessica thought.

Meeting his scrutinizing gaze, Jessica's breath hitched. She suddenly stood up and turned to walk out.

Gabriel called after her. "Where are you going?"

"It was chaotic at the scene. My agent and the others are probably still looking for me." She turned back to him and added, "I'll also find Wayne to come and take care of you."

After saying that, she withdrew her gaze and was about to leave when she suddenly heard some movement from the hospital bed and then Gabriel gasping in pain.

Jessica paused, turned back, and saw Gabriel trying to sit up but falling back onto the bed.

She quickly ran over and saw that Gabriel, lying on the bed, had rubbed his shoulder and back against the pillow, causing the wound to bleed again.

"Gabriel, what are you doing?" Jessica almost lost her temper, quickly pressing the call button for the nurse.

The nurse came quickly and scolded Gabriel for pulling at his wound while efficiently stopping the bleeding and treating it again.

Jessica stood by with pursed lips, not saying a word. This time, she really saw how serious the wound on his neck and back was.

Gabriel ignored the nurse's scolding. When the nurse hung up the anti-inflammatory IV bottle, he looked up at Jessica.
