Chapter 473 Always Waiting for Mrs. Harriman to Appear

Samuel suddenly saw Gabriel enter through the back door. Even though it was their first meeting, he immediately recognized the head of the Harriman Group family and its vast business empire.

He quickly withdrew the hand he had extended to Jessica.

"Alright, it's okay now." Gabriel held Jessica, gently patting her back and whispering in her ear, "Don't be afraid, okay?"

Jessica had just experienced a close call, and all her tension finally released when she saw Gabriel. Leaning into his embrace, she felt her limbs go cold. Gabriel held the back of her head, pressing it against his shoulder. She closed her eyes and exhaled, as if expelling all the lingering fear and anxiety.

"Mr. Harriman," Samuel suddenly spoke up from the side.

Gabriel, holding the visibly shaken but stoic Jessica, seemed to notice Samuel's presence only after he spoke. He asked while smiling, "And you are?"

"I'm sort of Jessica's cousin," Samuel replied.

"Cousin?" Gabriel was surprised.

"Yes, I'm related to Donald..." Samuel was about to explain.

Before he could finish, Samuel paused. He didn't have time to explain further before Gabriel adjusted Jessica's coat and glanced at his watch, showing little patience for more conversation. "The Jenner family's relations are too complicated. My wife isn't feeling well and needs to rest. I won't stay here and waste time with distant relatives introducing themselves. We gotta go."

Gabriel made a move to leave with Jessica, and as expected, Samuel quickly stepped forward, "Mr. Harriman."

"What is it?" Gabriel asked coldly.

Gabriel, over 6 feet tall, looked down at everyone in the hospital lobby. Samuel, barely over 5 feet, watched as Gabriel comforted Jessica. Though Gabriel seemed warm to her, his demeanor towards others was cold and indifferent, his eyes devoid of warmth despite his polite smile.

The Jenner family in Washington was also a top-tier business family, much like the Harriman family in Xyleria, with deep roots and hidden influences in various sectors. However, the Harriman family had remained strong and even expanded over years, while the Jenner family's influence had waned due to internal strife and Donald's declining health.

Despite this, the Jenner family was still formidable. Yet, Samuel's usually smooth and polite demeanor seemed weak in front of Gabriel.

After a moment of hesitation, Samuel said, "I know Jessica was being followed. The person is likely from Aaron. Daniel had an incident in Xyleria, and his father still holds power in Washington. It's not surprising they targeted Jessica, especially with Donald's critical condition. Her uncles are bound to scheme, and with Eugene involved, Jessica is inevitably caught in the middle. I intended to take her back to the Jenner family, where she'd be safer. But since you're here, she's undoubtedly safest with you. Since we met here, why don't we have a meal together? You might be interested in the current situation in Washington..."

Gabriel's expression remained cold as he spoke in a low voice, "Jessica may have the Jenner name, but she's known as Mrs. Harriman. She has little to do with the Jenner family and is only here to visit a dying relative. I came to pick up my wife, who is clearly shaken. Why would I take her out to eat?"

Without waiting for Samuel to respond, Gabriel started to leave with Jessica.

"Mr. Harriman!" Samuel tried to stop him again. "Since you're here, you should go upstairs to see Mr. Jenner. As Jessica's husband, it's necessary!"

Samuel's words were forced out, but he knew his intentions were now too obvious. He looked at Gabriel, who had one arm around Jessica's shoulders and the other around her waist, never letting her go. The scene was intimate, but as a husband comforting his frightened wife, it was understandable. Samuel decided to stop persuading, fearing he might annoy Gabriel, and just watched his figure.

"Oh," Gabriel's smile deepened, but his eyes remained cold. "Visit Mr. Jenner as Jessica's husband? Or as Eugene's son-in-law? If I go up to see Mr. Jenner, I'll be seen as part of Eugene's faction, one of his most useful people?"

"Do I look like those who are available to get involved in your Jenner family's petty inheritance squabbles?" Gabriel ignored the flash of displeasure and embarrassment on Samuel's face. He felt Jessica's hand, which had been cold, warm up in his grasp, and turned to leave with her.

As they turned, Gabriel's peripheral vision caught a glimpse of a suspiciously dressed person in a baseball cap hiding behind a potted plant a few feet away. The person quickly hid further and left the scene upon sensing Gabriel's gaze.

Gabriel pretended not to notice, looking down at Jessica. Seeing her calm and composed, he glanced towards the back door.

In that moment, Gabriel held her hand, giving her a sense of security, gently stroking her fingers, and finally resting on her wedding ring.

Gabriel's phone rang. Holding Jessica's hand with one hand, he answered the call with the other.

Landon's voice came through, "Mr. Harriman, the situation outside the hospital is under control. Do you need help?"

"No, they won't get out," Gabriel replied.

Jessica, standing close, could hear the faint voice on the phone and looked at Gabriel.

Landon continued, "Our people have accessed the surveillance. They've been waiting for Mrs. Harriman to appear."

Gabriel let out a barely audible cold laugh, "Keep an eye on them and wait."

"Understood," Landon replied.
