Chapter 390 Let Go of Me
On the way back, even though Kevin wanted to take Jessica home, he saw Gabriel was there and decided against it. He only said goodbye after making sure she would be safe sitting in Wayne's car.
Jessica originally didn't plan to back with Wayne, especially since Gabriel was also in the car.
But to get Kevin to leave first, she casually mentioned it, and in the end, she had no choice but to get into Wayne's car.
The movie ended past midnight, and on the way back, Wayne was trying hard not to yawn while driving, mainly because he didn't want to disturb the two in the back.
If Jessica hadn't seen Gabriel's injury with her own eyes and checked his wound, she would have suspected he was faking it, especially since he was staying out so late. What was more, hung out so late in the night.
She had personally seen how deep the wound was and how much blood it had bled.
Gabriel was resting with his eyes closed but probably wasn't asleep.
The car was so quiet, and Jessica broke the silence. "Wayne, give us a review. Do you think the movie deserves its high box office?"
"Yes! Absolutely! It was fantastic!"
Wayne stopped speaking as Jessica intended to listen more words of praisement from him He was too tired, driving, and Mr. Harriman was also in the car. Even though Mr. Harriman didn't bother with them, his presence was strong, and Wayne didn't dare to talk too much.
The atmosphere returned to an awkward silence.
On the way back from the theater, they passed by Blue Bay Apartments. When they arrived, Jessica didn't seem to get off, indicating she wanted to go home. Wayne suddenly let out a loud yawn, "I can't do it anymore, I'm so tired. My apartment is nearby, and you've stayed at Blue Bay Apartments before. Mr. Harriman's apartment downstairs is also available. Do you want to stay here for the night? I'm afraid driving while tired isn't safe."
"It doesn't matter, you go rest early. I'll just call a cab," Jessica smiled at Wayne as she got out of the car.
Wayne, a bit startled by her smile, yawned again and said, "Mr. Harriman has been out for a while. I don't know if his wound has been affected. You should check on him. I'm leaving now."
Without waiting for Jessica's response, Wayne drove off.
Jessica stood next to Gabriel, both of them getting a face full of exhaust . Gabriel didn't seem affected, just glanced at her indifferently under the streetlights near Blue Bay Apartments. He didn't ask her to go upstairs to check his wound. He just put one hand in his pocket and walked back coldly.
Jessica looked around. At this situation, there weren't many cars. It was almost 1 AM.
Calling a cab at this time wasn't very safe.
She glanced at Gabriel, who was walking back slowly without looking back, and quickly caught up, asking as she walked beside him, "How's the wound?"
Gabriel kept walking, "Not fatal."
Jessica walked while taking out her phone, sending a message to the small group chat with Mackenzie, Lynn, and Zoey on WhatsApp: [Who's still awake?]
It was late, and everyone had been busy all day, so they were probably asleep. She could only hope someone was still awake to come pick her up, as calling a cab now wasn't safe.
But if no one responded, it meant they were all asleep, and she didn't want to wake them up with a call.
By the time they walked back to the building at Blue Bay Apartments, there was no response in the group chat.
Jessica had no choice but to give up.
It was almost 1 AM, and she had an early shoot the next day, needing to leave by 5 AM. Asking Lynn and Zoey to pick her up at 5 AM wasn't ideal.
But compared to the potential danger of a young woman calling a cab at this hour and facing an awkward night with Gabriel, she chose the latter.
When the elevator passed the 31st floor, her eyes lingered on the number 31 for a moment. But since she moved out, there probably wasn't much left inside. It wasn't a good idea to go back to the 31st floor to sleep.
Even if she went to the 32nd floor, Gabriel needed to sleep anyway. By the way,she could sleep on couch for left hours.
After mentally preparing herself, once inside, Jessica's thoughts were entirely on Gabriel's wound.
She pushed Gabriel to sit on the couch. Having helped him bathe these past few days, she was used to it and naturally unbuttoned a few buttons of his shirt, then pulled down his shoulder to check the wound. Seeing no redness, swelling, or tearing, and no blood seeping out, she was relieved and pulled his shirt back up.
While rebuttoning his shirt, she said, "Your assistant knew you were injured but still asked you to go to a movie late at night. Was Wayne not thinking, or are you so confident you don't even bother to lie logically, Mr. Harriman?"
She was about to straighten up with a smile when Gabriel suddenly pressed her neck down. Jessica, caught off guard, almost fell onto him, barely steadying herself but still nearly hitting his face.
She looked up in surprise at Gabriel's cold eyes, wanting to pull away, but Gabriel, seemingly ignoring the wound on his shoulder, held her neck firmly. His deep, mesmerizing eyes were cold and stern, "I thought habitual liars would automatically lower their intelligence. So you know lies need to be logical?"
Jessica immediately lowered her eyes, staring at the half-buttoned shirt in front of Gabriel. After a moment of silence, she said, "The doctor said you need more rest. After being out so long, you should rest early."
She was about to pull away, but Gabriel's hand still held her firmly.
The distance was too close.
So close that if she looked up, their noses would almost touch. Any closer, and it would be uncontrollable.
Jessica continued to avoid him, lowering her eyes, "Gabriel, let me off."
He didn't let go, so she tried to break free, raising her head to avoid contact with him, but inevitably met Gabriel's eyes.
"You think the wall in front of you is too high to climb, never considering if others can cross it. Instead, you add bricks to cut off what you think is impossible," Gabriel's grip on her neck was almost crushing, his gaze as cold as the wind in winter, "To put it nicely, you're decisive and straightforward. But in reality, you just don't care."
