Chapter 218 Gabriel Walked Over and Took Her...
Jessica didn't say anything because her hands were wrapped in the blanket, and it wasn't appropriate to change position in front of Gabriel.
She simply wriggled under the blanket on the bed, moving until her head was buried under the pillow at the edge of the pillow. She kept her head down to stay quiet.
But she was afraid Gabriel would comment on her posture again.
So she wriggled to the other side of the bed, to the edge, keeping as much safe distance from him as possible, and then stopped moving, continuing to bury her head under the pillow.
Gabriel stood coldly by the bed, looking down at Jessica. Understanding that she had just experienced a rollercoaster of emotions, he didn't provoke her further and turned to leave.
Jessica heard the door open and close, peeked out from under the pillow to glance at the door, then buried her head back under the pillow, letting out a long sigh. It seemed that only now could she calmly reflect on the events of the evening that had kept her nerves taut.
Her phone, lying on the nearby sofa, had been ringing incessantly, as if it had rung many times. She guessed it was the crew and Mackenzie, Zoey, and the others frantically looking for her. After all, there was still a scene to shoot tonight, and she had disappeared for so long without going to the set or giving any updates.
But she closed her eyes, not wanting to move, and had no energy to do so.
The room was filled with the continuous ringing of the phone, over and over again. Jessica's sense of responsibility had been exhausted in the hours of her breakdown, and she didn't want to answer it. She was very tired and sleepy. Within few minutes, she fell asleep amidst the internal struggle of whether to answer or not and the incessant ringing of the phone.
Mackenzie was already very angry on set, not just because the crew had been urging and the entire crew was now upset, but because Jessica hadn't answered any calls, from anyone, yet her phone wasn't off or out of signal.
Not answering calls for several hours was truly worrying.
"What time is it now? Still no contact with Jessica?"
"What about the driver? Did you get through to him?"
"Still no contact?"
"What's going on? How can two people just disappear?"
"Keep calling, find them quickly!"
It had been dark for a long time, and the set couldn't wait any longer. They temporarily contacted other supporting actors to shoot other scenes. However, they had to give an explanation for Jessica's situation, and to do that, they first needed to find her.
Not just Mackenzie and Zoey, but everyone in the crew suspected something had happened to Jessica, especially since the driver who went to pick her up was also unreachable, with no signal on his phone.
The director was angry, but Mackenzie was more upset with the driver arranged by the crew, wondering if something had happened to him that also affected Jessica.
But now wasn't the time for blame.
Mackenzie took a cab back to the Urban Oasis Hotel but couldn't find Jessica. The staff said they saw Jessica leave in the afternoon and get into a car, but she hadn't returned since.
Mackenzie was frantic, but with Jessica missing for only a few hours, the police probably wouldn't file a report.
Jessica's phone still went unanswered.
About fifteen minutes after Jessica fell asleep, the door opened again.
Gabriel returned, glanced at her phone that had been ringing non-stop. He walked over and picked it up, and saw that it was Jessica's agent calling. There were already over twenty missed calls displayed.
He answered the call.
Mackenzie, on the other end, expecting another long period of no answer, was momentarily stunned when the call was suddenly picked up. After a few seconds, she burst out angrily, "You scared me! Why are you only answering now? Where are you?"
"Jessica can't come back today. She needs a few days off." A man's voice came through the phone.
Mackenzie was momentarily struck dumb as if hit by lightning.
After a long pause, she instinctively asked, "Mr. Harriman?"
"Yes."
"What happened to Jessica? Is she okay?"
"She had a minor accident, but she's fine now. She's asleep. She'll contact you herself when she wakes up and feels better."
Gabriel didn't explain further, only adding, "Give her a few days to rest."
With that, he hung up and placed it back on the sofa.
Jessica heardGabriel answering the phone and stirred half-asleep.Unable to move her hands and feet because she was wrapped up, she buried her head under the pillow for a while before poking it out again to continue sleeping. However, she was clearly not sleeping well, half-opening her eyes at the noise, wanting to sleep but also curious about what was happening.
Gabriel walked over and brushed her hair away from her forehead. Upon seeing that the gauze on her forehead, where she had applied medicine, was still intact despite her movements, he gently patted her face. "If you're awake, get up and eat something before going back to sleep."
Jessica groggily turned her head to him, her eyes opening a bit wider. The short nap had calmed her down a lot. In a lazy, somewhat slurred voice, she asked, "What to eat?"
Just as she finished speaking, there was a knock on the door. Gabriel went to open it.
A hotel staff member handed over a shopping bag. "Sir, here are two sets of clothes from Sunshine Bay City Mall, tailored to the sizes you specified. If they don't fit, we can have someone come to exchange them immediately."
Gabriel took the bag, closed the door, and turned back to the bed. Jessica, now more awake after hearing the noise outside, struggled to sit up wrapped in the blanket, looking at him groggily. "Didn't you say we were going to eat?"
At this point, she was speaking and reacting purely on instinct.
After a significant release of mental stress, it's true that people can get very hungry.
Especially Jessica, who hadn't eaten much for lunch, and had been rushed to the set in the afternoon without eating, and now it was already past 8 PM. She was indeed hungry.
"Do you plan to eat while wrapped in this blanket?" Gabriel placed the shopping bag on the bed. "There's a set of clothes for you inside. Change first."
With that, he picked up another shopping bag and headed into the bathroom.
Jessica guessed that he probably got a set of men's clothes as well, as his shirt was stained with either blood or water and was no longer wearable.
Hearing the sound of water from the bathroom, she guessed Gabriel was taking a quick shower before changing. She then emerged from the blanket, took the clothes out of the bag, and changed into them. There was even a set of underwear at the bottom of the bag.
Jessica quickly put them on, avoiding thinking too much about how the underwear fit so well, and then put on the outer clothes.
It was a soft, comfortable women's suit, with a subdued yet attractive color.
She glanced at the receipt accidentally left in the bag by the hotel staff and saw the Dior logo, along with the amount: $1,680.
