Chapter 129 Are You Trying to Kiss My Mommy Secretly
Just as Jessica shouted, Danielle quickly ran over and threw herself at Gabriel's legs, hugging his straight, sweet legs under his pants while calling out to Uncle Spencer and hiding behind him. She only showed half of her head and had guilty eyes facing Jessica.
Well, the case has been solved successfully.
But how did Danielle manage it?
Seeing Jessica looking puzzled, Gabriel had no intention of leaving after realizing it was all a misunderstanding. He picked up his phone, his long and distinct fingers opening a WhatsApp voice message.
Danielle said, "Uncle Spencer, our house is so big. Do you want to come live with us?"
It was Danielle's voice.
Jessica was speechless.
She looked down at Danielle, who was hiding behind Gabriel.
At this moment, Danielle didn't even dare show half of her head. She pressed her face against Gabriel's leg, her small hand tightly gripping Gabriel's pants, silently pleading for help.
Jessica's expression was a bit scary!
Unmoved, Gabriel calmly opened the second voice message.
Danielle said, "Uncle Spencer, Mommy will make a lot of delicious food tonight. Do you want to eat with us?"
While Jessica squeezed out a forced smile at Gabriel, she glanced at Danielle from the corner of her eye, grinding her teeth.
The key was , where did she mention an invitation in those two sentences?
Unfazed, Gabriel calmly opened the third voice message, and this one was quite long.
First, Danielle said, "Mommy, whose house are we living in now? Is it Uncle Spencer's?"
Then Jessica's voice came from a distance. "Yes."
Followed by Danielle's voice again. "Mommy, do you want to invite Uncle Spencer to our house for dinner?"
Jessica's voice came from afar. "Let's do it another day. It's already afternoon today; it's too rushed. To show our gratitude, we'll formally invite him when we have the chance."
Then, Danielle spoke into the phone in a quiet voice. "Uncle Spencer, Mommy said she wanted to invite you for dinner. Remember to come tonight! I'll be waiting for you!"
The voice message ended.
After listening to this nearly sixty-second-long message, Jessica saw that both of Danielle's small hands were tightly gripping Gabriel's pants.
With such a little one at home, Jessica suddenly felt she should change her phone's password.
She raised her eyes to meet Gabriel's calm gaze, seeing various emotions clearly reflected in his eyes, such as 'just say thank you if you want to show gratitude,' 'no need for a formal invitation,' 'a bowl of pasta will do,' 'Danielle wants me so badly, how can I leave now,' 'don't think I don't know you haven't prepared my dinner,' and so on.
She, indeed, hadn't prepared his dinner!
Even if Danielle could eat a lot, how much could a four-year-old eat?
But even if she hadn't prepared it, she absolutely couldn't say it!
How to solve this problem? Of course, she had to prepare his dinner now immediately!
With that in mind, Jessica temporarily abandoned her plan to hold Danielle accountable and pointed inside, saying, "You sit first, I haven't finished cooking dinner yet, wait a bit."
After speaking, she slipped into the kitchen, shooting a glance back at Danielle on her way.
Seeing Mommy about to leave, Danielle, who was peeking out with joy, quickly retracted her head upon catching Mommy's glare.
A few minutes later, sounds of pots and pans clanging and the refrigerator door opening and closing repeatedly could be heard from the kitchen.
Suddenly needing to prepare an extra dinner, Jessica hadn't decided what to make yet. She picked up a steak, recalling how Gabriel had won Danielle over with a fried steak last time. For some reason, she hesitated and put the steak back, feeling a faint sense of competitiveness, never expecting her rare burst of competitiveness to surface in this situation.
In TV dramas and romance novels, the domineering CEOs always either ripped hearts out or drove around in legendary billion-dollar cars with the female lead's heart racing like a deer. Gabriel just liked to freeload at other people's homes.
Last time, he said he liked the pasta she made; luckily, there were eggs in the fridge. Jessica decided to stick with that, along with some soup and other side dishes.
Simple and plain.
As she was washing the vegetables, a hand reached over her shoulder, adjusting the cold water to a moderate temperature.
Jessica had just moved in, and today was her first time cooking in this kitchen. She hadn't noticed the smart button under the faucet to adjust the water temperature.
Gabriel's arm was close to her side, and just as Jessica was about to thank him, she didn't expect Gabriel to be leaning down to see what vegetables she was washing. Jessica suddenly turned her head, her nose bumping into his straight nose bridge. Their eyes met at close range, with only an inch separating their lips.
Jessica froze, her whole body instantly petrified.
The air fell into a moment of eerie silence.
The touch of their noses felt like any slight breath from either of them could bring them even closer.
Gabriel's gaze remained on her, not moving away, as the warm water continued to flow from the faucet.
Jessica still held a bunch of greens in her hand, her eyes shifting slightly to the side. Subtly moving her lips, she said, "I... I'm washing vegetables here. You have nowhere to move. Can you step back a bit so I can turn around?"
Though Gabriel didn't move, it was as if he hadn't heard her request to step back. His clear and deep black eyes watched her lips as she spoke, the warmth in his gaze visibly rising.
Seeing him not stepping back, Jessica slightly turned her head away, trying to find a space between Gabriel's arm and the cabinet to breathe more freely.
Suddenly, Danielle's voice rang out, "Uncle Spencer!"
Danielle burst through the door and, with a shout, ran straight into the kitchen to hug Gabriel's leg.Jessica had just turned her face away, and Gabriel, upon hearing Danielle's voice, was about to make a timely retreat. However, Danielle's sudden lunge caught him off guard, causing his thin lips to accidentally brush heavily against Jessica's cheek, then further trailing along her cheek to her ear due to the inertia of their differing movements.
Before both of them could react, Danielle lifted her little head, looking surprised, and asked, "Uncle Spencer, are you trying to kiss my mommy secretly?"
Jessica was amazed.
In the split second that Jessica turned back, Gabriel discreetly blocked the hand Jessica was about to tap on Danielle's head, lifting Danielle's small hand and swiftly leading her out of the kitchen.
But Danielle, being fearless, was taken away while still exclaiming, "Wow!"
