Chapter 295 Uncle Spencer's Office
The car pulled up outside Blue Bay Apartments. Jessica unbuckled her seatbelt and said, "Thanks."
She pushed open the door and got out, ignoring Cherry's taunts and warnings from moments ago.
"Hey, you!" Cherry called out, watching Jessica walk away without a backward glance, clearly annoyed.
Jessica was a hot commodity right now, with advertisers and production companies lining up to work with her. She was a big deal, and if she wasn't a pushover, managing her would be a challenge.
Jessica had more resources than anyone else in the company. Even the president couldn't afford to upset her. Sure, there was a management contract, but if Jessica didn't play ball, those deals and resources would be hard to secure.
Cherry's other two clients hadn't made much progress in the past couple of years. She needed a win to boost her reputation. All the resources she couldn't get were going to Jessica. If she didn't capitalize on this golden opportunity, becoming Jessica's manager would be pointless.
Cherry sat in the car, fuming, watching Jessica walk away. She had wanted to follow her to see which rich guy Jessica was dating, but the security here was too tight.
Inside Blue Bay Apartments, Jessica got a call from Cynthia while waiting for the elevator.
"The prenatal records you left in M Country are tough to get. All files from the day you gave birth to Danielle have been erased. At Andes Hospital, the guy managing old records lost a bunch due to a computer virus. They tried to recover everything from the past ten years, including 'accidentally' or 'intentionally' erased files. This gave Trinity a chance. But when you were checked at that hospital, you were only three months pregnant. Those records will just make her suspicious; Trinity won't know if you miscarried or actually gave birth."
Jessica asked, "Has Trinity been looking into this for a while?"
Cynthia replied, "Not sure when she started suspecting you had a kid. Maybe she heard something from people hanging around the kindergarten. But she has no proof and can only dig into your life in M Country from a few years ago. Without the Andes Hospital incident, she'd have nothing."
"She has no proof but is already suspicious. The Jenner family is in trouble, and she has no job right now. In her idle and resentful state, she might do something crazy." The elevator arrived, and Jessica stepped in, still on the phone.
Cynthia said, "Don't worry, Mr. Harriman is on it. Everyone around Trinity, including the hotel's internal network and various checkpoints, are tightly controlled. Whether it's her sources of info or attempts to post online, it won't be easy."
Jessica thought, 'Gabriel said he'd handle everything.'
"He said from now on, these are things I don't need to worry about. Leave them to him; he'll handle it."
Watching the elevator numbers rise, Jessica's heart gradually calmed.
Being with Gabriel always gave her an unstoppable strength. All the obstacles she once had to overcome were now being cleared by him. The hurdles in front of her turned into smooth roads because of his presence, and she no longer tripped over unexpected stones.
Three days later, Jessica was suddenly scheduled to go to H City for filming. "Sweet Ferris Wheel" had a scene set in a certain building there, and the shoot was expected to take three days, just in time to finish before Christmasand return to Xyleria.
At 4:30 PM, the door to the president's office at Harriman Group opened, and Danielle was brought in by Landon.
Gabriel had just returned from a meeting and was reviewing a proposal. He glanced towards the door, first noticing Danielle's curious and excited big eyes, then looking at Landon, who seemed overwhelmed by her questions.
"Mr. Harriman, if you're still busy, should I take Danielle somewhere else? The mall on Central Avenue has a children's play area," Landon suggested. Danielle had just let go of his hand and was now fully focused on Gabriel behind the desk.
But because the place was so big and unfamiliar, Danielle was excited but didn't dare speak loudly. She just kept looking at Gabriel with wide eyes, wanting to rush over but too scared to do so.
"No need," Gabriel said, putting down his work and walking over.
Danielle looked up at Gabriel as he approached and softly called, "Uncle Spencer!"
Gabriel took Danielle's hand and signaled with his eyes for Landon to leave.
Landon, relieved, quickly nodded and left the office.
Jessica's nanny had accidentally fallen in the snow yesterday and sprained her ankle, making it impossible for her to pick up and take care of Danielle for the next couple of days. Jessica had been called to H City by the production team at the last minute.
Jessica had planned to have her friend Cynthia help take care of Danielle, but Gabriel found out and arranged for Landon to pick up Danielle from kindergarten and bring her to the office.
This was quite a challenge for him!
Landon prided himself on having worked with Gabriel for many years, both abroad and at home, having faced all sorts of challenges.
He had once followed Gabriel through a financial recovery case in M Country, navigating through a hail of bullets. Yet today, he was nervous because of a four-year-old girl.
With so many eyes in Harriman Group, Landon chose to drive to the kindergarten to pick up Danielle, then drove into the company's underground parking lot near the elevator, escorting Danielle like a precious treasure all the way to the president's office on the 68th floor, barely avoiding countless eyes.
Along the way, Danielle had held his hand, chattering, "Landon, our kindergarten teacher just secretly said you're handsome," "Landon, you're so tall," "Landon, do you like chocolate?" "Landon, smile for me," "Landon, look at the pretty braid Mommy did for me this morning," "Landon, where are we going to find Uncle Spencer?"
Danielle was so lively, always bouncing around. If colleagues saw this, they might suspect he had a daughter outside.
This little princess was now Gabriel's precious gem. He wouldn't dare cause any misunderstandings.
