Rachel ditched her plan to greet everyone and made a beeline for the restroom.
"Rachel, didn't you just say you were gonna talk to Mr. Harriman and Ms. Jenner..." Melissa stumbled as she tried to look back, but it was too late to say anything to Jessica before she was dragged into the restroom.
Jessica noticed the voices fading and turned to look. She then glanced at the man in front of her, who had an effortless charm, and teased, "I never knew you, Gabriel, had a knack for showing off your feelings."
"When did I ever give you the impression I was clueless about romance?" Gabriel didn't even glance at the others, instead guiding her towards the cave. "Let's head back. You woke up too early; you should get some more rest."
"I'm probably wide awake now. I don't need to sleep. It's not like I haven't been pregnant before. I need to avoid any dangerous activities and not eat..." Jessica suddenly turned her gaze towards the nearby ocean.
Gabriel noticed her sudden pause but said nothing.
Their simultaneous pause and silence made it clear they both realized how difficult it would be to find normal food here.
"This kid's gonna have a legendary start, surviving on a deserted island with mom right from the get-go," Jessica laughed, linking her arm with his. "It's just a TV show. The director won't let us do anything truly dangerous. The crew checks everything, and all filming activities are safe. Please don't give the director a hard time."
Gabriel responded coolly, "It's rare to see you being so understanding, but it's for someone else. As a sponsor, I have to be on the show myself, and not only that, but I also have to trust others with the safety of my wife and child. Why should I?"
"You're exaggerating."
Gabriel scoffed, "It's not an exaggeration. I looked up precautions for early pregnancy while waiting for your test results. The first twelve weeks require extra care."
"It's fine. When I was pregnant with Danielle..."
"You've mentioned that. But things are different now. You have me."
Jessica suddenly found herself at a loss for words. She looked up at him, and Gabriel showed no intention of forcing her to leave. He gently stroked her hand, his eyes filled with tenderness, concern, and unspoken emotions.
No matter how much time had passed or how adorable and well-behaved Danielle was, the regret in his heart remained. He had never explicitly stated it, but his silence didn't mean the regret wasn't there.
Especially for a man like Gabriel, who had a strong sense of responsibility.
Not being there for Danielle's birth, not fulfilling his duties as a father and husband from the start, was a regret he couldn't undo, no matter how capable he was.
Because of this, he was even more cautious now that he had another chance to go through it all.
"Alright, I'll listen to you. I won't eat what you don't want me to eat, and I won't do what you don't want me to do. Mackenzie and our studio team didn't come to the island, so you can handle things with the director however you think is best. Is that okay?" Jessica conceded, leaning against his arm and gently nudging him with her elbow, then giving him a playful wink.
Gabriel looked at her deeply for a moment, then suddenly raised his hand to stroke her neck, pulling her into his embrace. He whispered in her ear, "When did you learn to compromise with me?"
