Chapter 203 What Did I Do to Offend Him?

The three people thought in their hearts, 'Who said that??

'You are the one who doesn't dare to show yourself in public.'

Donna and Kevin promptly looked up and smiled politely in that direction.

Jessica was a bit slower in reacting and didn't immediately know how to face the big boss in such a setting. But it wasn't appropriate to avoid it now, so she quickly took off her hat and smiled as well, looking like she was really timid in public.

"Indeed, they are all young people." the head of the construction bureau sighed, nodding his head. He turned to his colleagues behind him and said, "We are truly getting old. It's now the era of young men and women."

Several people behind him laughed and responded, "We can't include Mr. Harriman in that 'we.' Mr. Harriman is still young and is definitely a model of promising talent in the business and political circles."

In the past, Gabriel never responded to such topics that were casually directed at him. At most, he would smile it off, and even then, the smile would be so faint it was barely noticeable.

Today, for some reason, he had the leisure to glance over slowly. "Every profession deserves respect. There's no need for such politeness; everyone should get back to their work. If we talk about promising talent, perhaps among the performers here, there are future hall-of-fame artists. I should be the one showing respect."

His tone was so indifferent that it was hard to discern any emotion.

Jessica remained silent.

She thought, 'I was too naive to think that someone like Gabriel, even if he recognizes me in such a setting, would not react.

'I was indeed naive.

'Even if he didn't acknowledge me, he still managed to make me feel anxious.

'What did I do to offend him again?

'Why does he have to make me so uneasy?'

Jessica stood straight at the end of the crowd but simultaneously moved a couple of small steps behind Kevin, trying hard to minimize her presence.

Gabriel didn't let her have her way. His gaze landed accurately on her, shocking Donna and the other actresses around her. When they realized Gabriel seemed to be looking at Jessica, they became even more skeptical and curious, glancing in Jessica's direction.

But it was just a glance. Gabriel's gaze then indifferently shifted back to the front, and he instructed the resort staff to lead the way, not saying another word.

"Does Mr. Harriman know her?"

"He can't possibly know her."

"But it really seemed like Mr. Harriman was looking at her just now!"

"But it was just a glance. Maybe Kevin is too tall and was standing right in front of Jessica, making her more noticeable."

People around them had already started whispering. The director, however, gave Jessica a stern look, clearly very displeased with her for suddenly wearing such a big hat earlier.

The director probably thought that Jessica didn't take those leaders seriously enough, which was why Gabriel gave her that cold glance.

The resort in Sunshine Bay City was divided into a lakeside area and a central lake area. The crew was originally filming in the lakeside area and hadn't been able to enter the central lake area. Today, while on break, they got the chance to follow along and take a tour.

The resort covered a vast area, and there was some distance between the lakeside location and the central lake area. Several sightseeing cars were responsible for taking them to the central lake area.

As soon as the sightseeing car stopped, Jessica quickly got off and walked away as if she hadn't heard the actresses' quiet doubts and discussions.

Jessica followed the director and others into the resort's central area, learning that the Xyleria leaders were being guided by staff to enjoy the surrounding scenic constructions. In an hour, they would head to the lawn activity area in the central lake region.

It was said that the activity area was divided into four leisure and entertainment zones: a golf course, a shooting range, a volleyball and badminton court, and an outdoor coffee and relaxation area.

Virgil, who had at some point gone to chat with the resort staff, came back calmly and asked, "Does anyone know how to play golf? You can join in and play later."

A female actress walking behind whispered to the crew member beside her, "What does Virgil mean? Didn't they say we could rest and relax these two days? Playing golf with the leaders from Xyleria? Did I hear that right?"

A crew member replied, "You heard right. What's the problem?"

The actress whispered, "Are the director and producers kidding? We're here to shoot a film, not to do PR. Even if they want to curry favor with the Xyleria leaders, they don't need to push us out there."

The crew member lowered his voice, "These are big shots from the business and political worlds, people you don't usually get to see. Do you think they're like the usual investors and advertisers? People would kill for a chance to do PR with them, let alone just play a round of golf. What are you thinking?"

The actress responded, "True, it is a rare opportunity."

The crew member continued, "Not everyone can play golf. Can you?"

The actress immediately looked regretful and disappointed. "I can't."

The Crew member sneered, "Then don't even think about it. Even if it were for PR, it wouldn't be your turn."

The actress fell silent.

Up ahead, Donna had already volunteered. "I can! I learned from my teammates when I was a trainee in Country H!"

Virgil nodded in satisfaction and continued to ask, "Anyone else? This sport is quite popular now. Surely Donna isn't the only one who can play?"

Everyone remained silent.

Most of the actors were very young, and their usual entertainment involved nothing but their phones. How many of them had the leisure to learn such an elegant activity as golf?

Two older veteran actors could play, but unfortunately, Virgil didn't call on them.

A few actresses who couldn't play still tried raising their hands.

After all, everyone wanted to take the opportunity to network with these business and political figures.

After scanning the crowd, Virgil suddenly looked at Jessica, who was walking ahead, seemingly eager to join everyone for the buffet. Jessica completely ignored his words.

"Jessica, do you want to join us in the activity area?"

"No, thanks."

"When I call you, you go. Others who raised their hands don't get this chance."

Virgil reached out and grabbed Jessica, pulling her along.

Jessica's looks were so striking that even if she did nothing, she would still stand out beautifully in a crowd. Even if she just sat there clapping, it would be a pleasing sight.

As Virgil forcibly dragged her away, Donna turned back and sarcastically asked, "Can Jessica even play?"

For once, Jessica found Donna particularly agreeable and quickly replied, "No, I can't! I've never learned! Pick someone else!"

She turned to leave.

Virgil held her back, frowning, "Why are you running? If you can't play golf, can't you at least cheer? Serve some coffee, and pour some water. You can do that, right?"

Jessica was speechless.

She thought, 'And they said they weren't making us temporary PR?

'This is indeed a shady crew, with not a single decent person from top to bottom!'
