Maurice continued, "But Hugo's morning jog and Mr. Harriman's breakfast run make sense. Running out to buy cigarettes at dawn, though, is definitely suspicious."
"Why is it that every time we start talking, the focus shifts to me? So now I'm the prime suspect?" Brent exclaimed, wiping his neck nervously. "I advise you all to think carefully, for the sake of our budget!"
"The more you protest, the more convinced I am that it's you," Clayton shot back, giving Marshall a pointed look, hoping to catch some hint in his expression.
Marshall, however, stayed relaxed, listening to their bickering with a calm demeanor. The camera continued to capture their animated faces.
"Ms. Jenner, do you have any thoughts? I'm really stumped here," Elise whispered to Jessica, leaning in closer.
Jessica sat there, one hand resting on her thigh, her chin propped up as she occasionally glanced at the split-screen images projected on the wall. These images showed footage from the cameramen who had filmed everyone's rooms earlier.
She had a lingering doubt in her mind.
This doubt wasn't about anyone else.
It was about Gabriel.
But the doubt wasn't very clear-cut. Gabriel had always been meticulous about the little details in her life, whether it was making sure she ate her meals properly or wore shoes while walking on the tiled floor at home. These habits of care were so ingrained that they didn't seem suspicious.
However, the time Gabriel went out to buy breakfast was unusually early.
But considering she was pregnant, it wasn't unreasonable for him to be extra cautious and attentive, even if he hadn't explicitly said anything or stopped her from continuing the show.
Because of this, Jessica's small doubt never grew, remaining a faint, unspoken concern.
As for the others, she listened but didn't find much difference in their situations.
Amidst the swirling suspicions, she glanced at Elise, who mimicked her pose, resting her chin on her hand and smiling at her with twinkling eyes, like a fan admiring a star.
Jessica was speechless.
If a fan were constantly around, smiling and eager, it would be hard for anyone with a soft heart to resist such enthusiasm. Friendships between women often warm up quickly, and even more so between different genders.
Jessica didn't let these thoughts lead her to consider Amy and Kevin's situation. She kept her gaze steady, still resting her chin on her hand, deep in thought alongside Elise, though she remained silent.
Listening to the group's discussion, Jessica reflected.
She recalled the crime scene in the kitchen, the meticulously tidied corners of the rooms.
She remembered Gabriel coming back with breakfast, and how he had taken a shower while she started eating.
Elise noticed Jessica's unusual silence today. She had heard that Gabriel was generally quiet but cooperative during filming, while Jessica usually acted as she saw fit. Concerned that Jessica might be feeling unwell, Elise looked at her and softly asked, "Ms. Jenner?"
