Rachel leaned in close to Debra, her voice barely above a whisper, "But didn't the director mention the accommodations on Mantanani Island at the start?"
Debra glanced at the young Rachel and sighed, giving her a reassuring pat on the back. "Just hang in there."
Rachel tried to control her frustration, especially since they were live streaming. Lester had already voiced her thoughts earlier, and she could guess that the viewers might be criticizing them, though whether they were targeting them or Jessica was unclear. They couldn't check their phones to find out.
To avoid getting caught up in the drama, Rachel fell silent and stood next to Debra without saying another word.
Debra kept smiling and turned to the director, "Director, don't beat around the bush. These folks won't be happy if you do."
Marshall chuckled and glanced over at Lester. "Lester, what do you think?"
Lester was still annoyed but had calmed down a bit. He glanced over at Jessica and Gabriel, who were ignoring him as if he didn't exist, which only fueled his irritation. He forced himself to stay composed and said, "Fine, whatever you decide, Ms. Jenner can make the call. I'm a grown man; I can handle sleeping on the beach."
Marshall, seemingly oblivious to the brewing tension, slowly explained Jessica's conversation with the producer and her choices.
The room fell silent for a few seconds. All the guests nodded in agreement with Jessica's decision. It was clear that anyone in her position would have made the same choice, and it showed that everyone would be on the same page once they reached Mantanani Island.
Lester and Rachel's expressions shifted. Rachel awkwardly cleared her throat and said softly, "Oh, I see. I'm sorry, Ms. Jenner. I got caught up in Lester's emotions and misunderstood you. I really apologize. You don't hold it against me, do you?"
Rachel walked over to Jessica, glancing at Gabriel, hoping for their forgiveness.
Gabriel gave her a brief look before turning back to Jessica. Jessica smiled warmly at Rachel. "What misunderstanding? The director was teasing us for the show's effect."
Jessica's words eased Lester's awkwardness a bit. He still looked displeased but realized the director had indeed stirred up conflict for the show's sake, and he was the only one who fell for it.
Rachel's apology also shifted the blame onto Lester. He looked a bit sullen but nodded towards Jessica in apology.
Amy, standing nearby, let out a low scoff and rolled her eyes, increasingly exasperated with the two of them.
Lester glanced at Amy, contemplating explaining himself, but Kevin suddenly walked by, blocking the view between Amy and Lester. Kevin signaled Amy to move to the shade to avoid the sun.
Amy looked at him, then at the shade, and promptly moved over.
Lester missed his chance to approach her, rubbed his nose, and noticed Rachel being subtly mocked by Jessica. He took advantage of the moment when the camera wasn't on him to let out a cold snort.
