Jessica glanced at Gabriel, who was shielding her from the first harsh rays of the morning sun. Tilting her head, she said, "When I was pregnant with Danielle, I didn't really think about it much, but my health was pretty good. I've been taking care of myself over the years while filming, so it shouldn't be a big deal. Let's not delay the shoot. Marshall's schedule is tight."
Gabriel wasn't thrilled about Jessica running around while newly pregnant, but she owed Marshall a favor, and the contract was signed. Even if he could pay a hefty penalty to get out of it, favors are hard to repay, especially with Jessica's personality. She wouldn't agree to go home and rest.
He didn't say much in front of the doctor, just asked a few questions about precautions if she was indeed pregnant.
After Felicity handed him a box of folic acid pills, instructing Jessica to take one daily, Gabriel took the medicine and led Jessica away.
They didn't return to the cave. While everyone else was still asleep, he took her to a spot without staff or cameras.
"You were only nineteen when you had Danielle. You're still young, but you got hurt abroad. You know your body better than anyone. Don't talk to me about being in good shape. You felt nauseous and had headaches in the rubber forest in Harmony City a few days ago. You should have left then. I respect your work and choices, but this is too risky." Gabriel glanced at her flat stomach. "We both know you're pregnant, even without a test. I wasn't there for Danielle, but this time, I need to be with you every step of the way."
Jessica saw the caution in Gabriel's eyes and couldn't help but laugh.
Gabriel, who managed everything so well in his vast office, was now visibly anxious just hearing she might be pregnant.
He was already a father, yet he acted like a nervous first-time dad, barely holding it together.
Gabriel was worried about her.
"My health was good before, so I had Danielle without much trouble. I'm still in decent shape now. As long as I don't catch a cold, I'll be fine. Besides, I have you now, Gabriel. We're filming together, and you're always by my side. If there's a task that's too strenuous or unsafe, you can use your influence to get me out of it. We need to finish the show so I can wrap up my other commitments and then rest at home. Right?"
Jessica tilted her head and blinked at him. "What if I'm not pregnant?"
Gabriel's expression shifted, his voice calm but with a hint of warning. "How many months has it been? You think you're not?"
Of course, she was.
A man like him, determined to have another baby, would make sure it happened. It would be surprising if she weren't pregnant after these months.
Jessica just smiled, holding up a pregnancy test. "I'll go check in the bathroom. Wait for my news!"
