Chapter 512 In the Future, You'll Need Two More People in Line to Hold the Baby
Jessica went back to her bedroom to take a shower and called Lynn to let her know she was safe. Neither Lynn nor Mackenzie knew she had suddenly returned to Xyleria. Fortunately, there were no other work commitments in Washington except for an upcoming variety show with Marshall, so her work wasn't affected.
While she was blow-drying her hair, Danielle sneaked in with a cup of warm milk that Sarah had just heated, placing it gently on the table without spilling a drop.
"Mommy, Sarah said you and Daddy just got back and that you should rest well in your room, drink some milk, and sleep a bit more. She'll call you when dinner is ready." Danielle put down the milk and ran over to hug Jessica's leg, looking up curiously because Jessica's hair was now down. "Why is Mommy's hair shorter?"
Jessica put down the hairdryer, picked up Danielle, and sat on the bed, letting Danielle play with her hair. She looked down at her hair, which now only reached her collarbone. "Doesn't Mommy look good with short hair?"
"No, Mommy is so beautiful; you look good no matter what!" Danielle clung to her, playing with her hair and softly saying, "But Mommy's hair smells so nice. Now that it's short, I have to tilt my head up to smell it."
Jessica lowered her head so Danielle could smell her hair. "Does it still smell nice? Does it?"
"It tickles!" Danielle giggled as the hair tickled her nose, causing her to roll around in Jessica's arms.
The mother and daughter played in the room for quite a while. Danielle eventually climbed into bed, indicating she wanted to nap with Jessica in the afternoon.
After drying her hair, Jessica lay down, and Danielle snuggled up to her like a little eel, clinging tightly and placing her small hand on Jessica's belly, asking softly, "When will there be a little brother or sister in Mommy's belly?"
Jessica asked, "Do you prefer a little brother or a little sister?"
Danielle thought seriously for a moment and then giggled, "I like both. If it's a little brother, he can protect Mommy when he grows up. If it's a little sister, she can play with me, wear dresses, and pretend to be a princess. Grandpa and Grandma said they bought me lots of pretty dresses from Y country and sent them over!"
Jessica caught the key point in Danielle's words. "Grandpa and Grandma?"
Danielle excitedly sat up, spreading her arms wide. "Grandpa and Grandma said we should often go to Y country to stay. They prepared a big, beautiful room for me there, and there's a rose garden that Grandma planted herself. Grandpa and Grandma often video call Great-Grandpa to see me, and we talk for a long time. Sometimes I fall asleep before the call ends. I've heard Grandpa and Grandma whispering about whether they should move back to the country."
Jessica smiled, pulling the happy Danielle into her arms, covering her with the blanket, and kissing her little nose.
Danielle's presence had even made Gabriel's parents consider moving back to the country.
People say that as they age, the things they once cared about and were obsessed with often become less important due to small, unintentional events. Children grow up unknowingly, and older people let go of things unknowingly.
Michael probably knew what had happened in Washington.
After a nap, Jessica and Danielle got ready to go to the front hall for dinner. They saw Gabriel had changed clothes, and two highly skilled doctors from Xyleria were at the house. They must have thoroughly examined Gabriel under Michael's supervision and confirmed he was fine. Michael's expression relaxed significantly, even more than when they first returned.
Jessica and Danielle entered the main hall and saw Fred preparing to send the doctors off. Gabriel was sitting in a chair next to Michael. When they returned, he had been wearing a casual sports outfit, but now he had changed into more comfortable clothes for the examination. Even in soft, loose loungewear, he still looked sharp and well-dressed.
Jessica's gaze unintentionally lingered on him, and even a casual glance was enough to captivate her.
Next to him was Wayne, who rarely stayed for dinner with the Harriman family. Wayne had a good physique but wasn't as tall as Gabriel. He often socialized and always wore a kind smile. Despite being young, he had some laugh lines at the corners of his eyes. He was slimmer than Gabriel and wore a suit from the office, looking a bit thin. However, he was still quite handsome and wealthy, making him attractive to many young women. After all, he was the executive assistant to the CEO of a multinational company, a position even higher than most executives.
Gabriel, despite losing some weight due to his injury, still had a well-proportioned body. His face was slightly thinner, but he had recovered well over time. His naturally calm demeanor was captivating. He sat there, having recently discussed the situation in Washington with Michael. Michael's expression was relaxed and gentle, and Gabriel sat beside him with a clean and natural posture.
Jessica sometimes thought that she preferred seeing Gabriel in loungewear at home rather than the cold, unapproachable Gabriel in the Harriman Group office. The aloofness he showed to outsiders was almost entirely gone here, making him seem naturally clean and inviting, making her want to lean on his shoulder and stay close.
At dinner, Danielle had recently gotten used to eating with Michael and Seraphina. She obediently sat between the two elders, allowing them to eat peacefully without any disputes.
Seraphina asked Sarah to bring out Jessica's favorite dishes. "Jessica, you've lost quite a bit of weight during your time in Washington. You need to eat well and regain your strength. If you don't feel happy staying with the Jenner family, you don't have to go back. With the Harriman family and Gabriel here, no one can take our daughter-in-law away."
Jessica felt a warmth in her heart. "Thank you, Grandma."
Seraphina nodded and continued, "Recently, Benjamin and Brooklyn are planning to move back from Y country, but Kimberly probably won't return. They found her a job as a translation teacher at an orphanage in Pearl Peak City, where she will be responsible for welcoming volunteers from around the world who want to adopt children. She doesn't plan to return to Xyleria."
Michael snorted, "I think they not only want to move back but also want to compete for the grandchildren. If Jessica has another child, there will be two more people in line to hold the baby!"
Jessica almost choked on her soup.
