Chapter 366 Gabriel Was Only Wearing a Shirt
Jessica finally put down the newspaper, grabbed her fork, and started eating her pasta.
Lynn glanced over. "Why are you reading the finance section? Thinking of ditching art to become a business mogul?"
"Even if I wanted to, I can't right now. It's just a small studio. The people in the finance section are way out of our league. What does that have to do with me going behind the scenes?" Jessica took a bite and found the pasta pretty good.
"It doesn't, but you were really into it."
Hearing this, Zoey leaned over to check out the newspaper next to Jessica, but it was already folded, so she gave up.
Late September in San Francisco still felt like summer. Even the rain didn't cool things down.
The AC was a bit too cold. Gabriel, in a short-sleeved sweater, sat by the window, enjoying the rainy view.
This suite supposedly had the best view in San Francisco. Gabriel had stayed here many times and was tired of the scenery, but the heavy rain was a nice change.
The computer screen flickered. Jimmy, just back from a call, glanced at her through the video camera and then at the time. "It's just past 6 AM there. Why are you up so early?"
Gabriel's cold eyes met the screen. "It's my body clock. I'm used to it."
Jimmy chuckled, "There must be a reason you can't sleep."
Gabriel didn't elaborate. "What did your assistant's email last night mean?"
"The case you were tracking seven years ago has new developments." Jimmy's tone turned serious. "We have found Montgomery's escape route. You are related to this case, after all. You were at the explosion site back then. We are about to pinpoint Darren's final escape location very soon."
Gabriel opened the email from last night and studied the satellite tracking map. She stayed silent, thinking.
"When are you coming back to Country M?" Jimmy asked casually.
Gabriel's cold expression softened a bit. "We'll see."
The doorbell rang. It was the hotel staff with breakfast. Gabriel ended the call, set the computer aside, and got up to answer the door.
Passing by the sofa near the door, she noticed the spare room key card she had tossed there last night. She paused for a moment, then walked past.
After breakfast, Jessica was heading back to her room with Lynn and Zoey, planning to spend a lazy day at the hotel.
Zoey suggested playing bridge on their phones and wanted Jessica to join. Jessica wasn't interested and was resisting as they walked to the elevator. Suddenly, she noticed someone stepping out of another elevator.
Kimberly barely slept last night. The hotel room they gave her was nice but not on Gabriel's floor. She had no excuse to go up and see him. She wanted to have breakfast with him, but he usually ate in his room. Plus, she showed up unannounced last night, and Gabriel probably figured out the spare room key situation. She still didn't know how to approach him.
As she was heading downstairs for breakfast, she saw someone unexpected.
Kimberly spotted Jessica first, and Jessica noticed her because of Kimberly's stare.
Their eyes met briefly. Jessica wasn't surprised to see Kimberly, knowing she had arrived last night. They weren't close. They'd only met once at the Harriman family, so no need for greetings. Jessica entered the elevator without any expression, like she was seeing a stranger.
Kimberly, however, stopped and stared at the closing elevator doors.
"Miss Harriman, I'm sorry, Mr. Harriman isn't answering his phone, and the lady who went to the wrong room isn't either. We had to ring the doorbell, but when the door opened, it was closed again. Mr. Harriman is the guest in that room, and he has no intention of opening the door. There's nothing we can do."
'The lady who went to the wrong room? Mr. Harriman has no intention of opening the door?'
Kimberly suddenly remembered what the staff had said last night. She stared at the elevator doors with a fierce look.
When Jessica went upstairs, Zoey and Lynn were still pestering her to play bridge. She had no choice but to join them in their room and play on their phones for a while. After about two hours, Jessica had lost all her money and finally gave up, lying on the bed and refusing to play anymore.
The rain outside had lessened, but it was still drizzling.
Jessica lay on Zoey's bed for a while, trying to sleep but couldn't. She suddenly felt a pain in her stomach and pressed her hand against her lower abdomen. She didn't understand why was her stomach hurting. It wasn't her period yet, after all.
'Could it be the snacks I ate last night?' she wondered.
"You two keep playing. I'm going back to my room to sleep for a bit." Jessica quickly sat up, but the movement made her stomach hurt even more, her face turning pale. She hurriedly left.
Lynn and Zoey were engrossed in their game, their phones making various noises. They waved her off without noticing her discomfort.
Jessica didn't think much of it, assuming she had eaten something bad. She went straight to the elevator and back to her room.
But after sitting in the bathroom for a while, there was no reaction. It was clearly not a stomach issue.
She came out of the bathroom, feeling uncomfortable, and sat on the bed, holding her stomach. She tried to sleep but couldn't because of the pain. She picked up her phone, opened a music app, and played some soothing music, hoping to relax and fall asleep. Maybe a nap would help.
However, as the soothing music played, Jessica closed her eyes for a while, then suddenly bit her lip and curled up in pain, cold sweat breaking out on her forehead.
