After getting back to the Airbnb from the supermarket, the group was about to start a game to decide the sleeping arrangements for the night when Marshall suddenly announced, "Since Jessica just triggered a hidden task, she needs to continue with it now."
Everyone was caught off guard. "A hidden task? What kind of task?"
Jessica, who had just walked back to the front door of the Airbnb, was taken aback.
"Me?" she asked, looking at Marshall with hesitation.
Marshall nodded and gestured for her to go see the producer to get her task.
Jessica stood there in a daze for a moment before heading to the producer, who was waiting in a car outside. As soon as she got in, the producer handed her a few photos.
"These are the accommodation options for when you all get to Mantanani Island in Majestic City. Which one do you want?" the producer asked with a smile.
Jessica looked at the photos. Just as Marshall had said, there were indeed two nice places. They weren't luxurious, but they were charming standalone villas typical of a tourist spot on an island. They were located at the highest and most central point of the island, offering the best views.
The remaining options were mostly open-air accommodations, and there was a note under the photos: If someone stayed in the villa at the top of Mantanani Island, the other guests must share the cost of the accommodation, each paying $100. If the total isn't enough, the remaining amount can be temporarily owed and paid back once funds are available.
Initially, Jessica was thrilled to have this choice out of nowhere. Who wouldn't pick such a great place? But she hadn't expected there to be additional conditions.
Although the producer didn't spell it out, it was clear. If she and Gabriel wanted to enjoy two nights in this villa, she had the first choice, and no matter the conditions, the other guests had to comply without objection.
In other words, her and Gabriel's comfort for the next two nights would come at the expense of the other guests, who would have to rough it and might even struggle to afford meals for the rest of the trip.
After looking at the photos, Jessica put them down and looked at the producer with confusion. "Are you trying to put me in a moral dilemma?"
"No moral dilemma. You can choose. This is the show's rule. After all, you triggered the hidden task, so this is your reward," the producer said calmly, having anticipated Jessica's displeasure.
Jessica was baffled. "What hidden task did I trigger? I don't even know."
The producer explained, "When everyone was worried about not having enough funds, you chose to give Brent and Melissa two pairs of slippers. You also bought breakfast for Brent and Melissa at the Airbnb. Additionally, when you found out that it might be hard to buy staple foods on the island, you didn't keep it to yourself but informed everyone to prepare. And during the first game, you and Mr. Harriman deliberately lost to switch rooms with Maurice and Debra. Although this is a travel show, all the guests form a team together. Your honesty, selflessness, and care for the team triggered the hidden task. So, you get the first choice of accommodation on Mantanani Island."
"Are you giving me the first choice or testing me?" Jessica was speechless. She didn't even glance at the photos of the villa at the top of the island. "There's no way I'm going to let everyone else rough it while Gabriel and I sleep up there."
"You can choose to forgo this privilege, but if you miss this chance, it's gone. You haven't been sleeping well these past two nights. Are you sure you want to continue braving the sea breeze with everyone else on the island?"
