Chapter 673 Sweet Extra of Couple Variety Show 158

It turned out that any counterfeit or falsely advertised product is a big no-no for any legit business leader.

Especially Gabriel.

He was the one who bought the snack in the first place, but he was also the one who personally tossed it in the trash and warned her never to eat it again, or let Danielle eat it either.

Jessica stifled her laughter and nodded repeatedly.

Just then, an elderly man carrying a crate of pears walked by. He was probably from a remote village off the highway, looking to sell the pears somewhere nearby.

A staff member saw the old man come in to ask for water and sneered, "Those pears are still green. They're not ripe yet and are so sour they could make your teeth fall out. You shouldn't bother going so far to sell them; no one will buy them."

Jessica looked over and saw the old man dressed in tattered clothes, his hair white, and his hand trembling slightly as he held the crate, likely due to some health issue. Yet, he kindly responded to the staff member, "It's okay. If I can sell even one, it's something. Every little bit helps."

The staff member, while pouring a cup of warm water for the old man, softened his tone and sighed, "Your son went out to work years ago and hasn't come back or sent any news. You've been alone at home all these years, selling pears in town every day to get by. Who knows when your son will return."

The old man seemed accustomed to this mix of pity and curiosity. After drinking the water, he bowed in thanks and prepared to leave with his crate.

Jessica watched the old man's crate of pears from a distance, then glanced at Gabriel.

Gabriel understood, gave her a look, and asked indifferently, "You want some?"

Jessica pointed to the old man's crate and whispered, "I want some. A whole crate would last me a long time."

Those green pears were likely very sour, and other guests probably wouldn't want them. But as a pregnant woman craving sour foods, she would love them.

Gabriel walked towards the door, and Jessica stayed back to avoid making the old man feel overwhelmed.

From a distance, she saw Gabriel ask the old man to stop and likely inquired about the price. He inspected a pear from the crate, noting that aside from being unripe and green, they were in good condition—no bug bites or hail damage, clean and round. If you ignored the likely sour taste, it was indeed an enticing crate of fruit.

Jessica then saw the old man's surprised expression as he hurried to pull out an old-fashioned scale to weigh the pears, but Gabriel gently stopped him and said something else, leaving the old man even more astonished.

Although the show's rules didn't allow them to carry cash, in this special case, Gabriel just had to inform the staff. A staff member quickly came over and handed the old man ten hundred-dollar bills.

Jessica, though she didn't go over, could see the old man's anxious and shocked expression. He didn't dare accept so much money and only took one bill, shakily trying to pull out some change from his pocket.

The staff member didn't linger, quickly returning to their duties after giving the money.
