Chapter 140 You're Abrupt
Noticing the gaze from the other side, Gabriel turned his eyes towards where Keegan was and threw a casual glance in his direction, his eyes calm and indifferent, with the usual sense of detachment between his brows.
Keegan, on the other hand, had already approached and, after reaching a polite distance in front of Gabriel, extended his hand, saying, "Mr. Harriman, nice to meet you."
Gabriel glanced at him indifferently without responding. The deep and cold indifference in his eyes was evident, showing no inclination to engage.
Keegan introduced himself, "The Four Seas Entertainment, Keegan."
Somehow, even though the two top figures from Xyleria had never crossed paths before, one reigning over the entertainment industry and the other a prominent figure in the legitimate business world, logically speaking, Gabriel shouldn't have known Keegan.
Yet, in an instant, Keegan instinctively felt that after he introduced himself, Gabriel's cold gaze turned even more frigid. The aura of aloofness around him pierced like a drawn sword, and his cold eyes fell on Keegan's face without a trace, cool and enigmatic.
Seeing that Gabriel showed no intention of shaking hands, Keegan withdrew his hand appropriately, not feeling particularly awkward, and said with a faint smile, "I don't think we've met before."
Gabriel, indeed, had no intention of shaking hands. "We haven't."
Mr. Harriman's aloof and unapproachable attitude in front of him was just as the outside world had described.
Keegan wasn't surprised either and smiled. "We haven't had many opportunities to collaborate. It's rare to see Mr. Harriman, so I hope this isn't too abrupt."
Gabriel set aside the magazine in his hand and said in a clear and light tone, "You're being abrupt."
Keegan concealed his surprise, wondering if he had offended Gabriel in front of him.
"Keegan, come help me see if this one looks better than the white one I tried on earlier," Trinity's voice suddenly came from behind.
Gabriel was standing in the lounge area next to a large potted plant. Trinity couldn't see clearly who was in front of Keegan, but from a distance, it seemed to be a man, so she didn't rush over, just holding a sample and calling Keegan over.
Keegan didn't say much more, nodded politely to Gabriel, and turned to leave.
When Jessica came out after changing her clothes, there was no one else in the store.
Gabriel glanced at her.
Jessica was naturally beautiful, the kind that didn't need embellishment, just straightforward beauty. Even though she had only changed into a slightly more formal outfit, her inherent grace instantly became more natural.
"Good." Gabriel, sparing with words, gave Jessica a concise comment. The store manager beside Gabriel looked as if he had received a great reward, smiling broadly.
Jessica smiled gently. "Good, and the price is good, too."
Gabriel seemed to have not heard her, glanced at the time, and said, "Let's go."
"Mr. Harriman, Miss Jenner, have a good day, and welcome back next time." the store manager quickly followed.
With puzzled, Jessica followed him out of the store. When she sat back in the car, Gabriel gestured with his eyes for her to fasten her seatbelt. She quickly did so and then looked at him, asking, "Can you tell me where we're going now?"
As Gabriel pulled the car out of the parking spot, he slowly said, " The Harriman family old mansion."
"Your home?" Jessica exclaimed.
"More precisely, the Harriman family old mansion."
What did that mean? Did it mean it was the Harriman family old mansion, but he didn't often stay there?
Wasn't he still part of the Harriman family?
"What's the difference?" Jessica was speechless.
"Of course, there is. My own residence is very quiet, and although there's been a silly neighbor downstairs recently, it doesn't affect my rest. The Harriman family old mansion is different, especially today being my grandfather's birthday. With many relatives and colleagues visiting, it's bustling and never quiet," Gabriel explained calmly and attentively as he drove, his handsome face composed.
Jessica didn't quite understand the first part of what he said, but she intuitively felt that something had quickly flashed through her mind, something she couldn't grasp in time.
Then she heard the keyword 'grandfather's birthday' and was instantly dumbfounded.
Jessica opened her mouth, struggling to say, "Your grandfather's birthday. Why are you taking me here?"
Gabriel, unhurried, said, "Perhaps your acting skills have impressed me. This cliché of pretending to be a girlfriend, I can only ask for your help."
"Are you crazy, or am I crazy?" Jessica was astonished.
"If you want to repay a debt, I'm giving you a chance to do so," Gabriel replied.
"Is this the best way? You know this plot is outdated and could be off-putting to others. How am I supposed to act? How do I do this?" Jessica felt like she could jump out of the car if she weren't still inside and if the central lock wasn't already engaged.
Controlling the steering wheel, Gabriel drove past an intersection, leisurely replying, "Who was it that asked me to play her husband in front of Nicholas?"
"That's different!" Jessica protested.
"It's not different at all. Both situations involve someone with the last name Harriman," Gabriel said calmly.
Jessica was shocked by Gabriel's eloquence, amazed at how he could remain so composed when presenting unreasonable arguments.
It took her a while to gather her thoughts and finally say, "But... a grandfather and a grandson, that's a huge difference!"
Gabriel's eyes held a hint of amusement. "My grandfather isn't that serious. Just act normally."
"Can I refuse?"
"Could you stop the car for a moment? I suddenly need to use the restroom."
"Oh, my stomach hurts..."
"Gabriel! I command you, as the benefactor who saved your life back then, to stop the car!"
"Sugar Daddy, my acting skills aren't as good as you think. Facing the camera is different from facing real people."
"Stop the car. Let's get out and chat in the cool breeze."
The Bentley car navigated through the center of Xyleria as Jessica kept talking, never stopping and heading south all the way.
Finally, she leaned back in her seat, giving up the struggle, feeling resigned and powerless, and asked, "So how should I cooperate?"
Gabriel glanced at her sideways and said, "Improvise. Figure it out as you go."
Jessica was speechless.
A few days ago, after Michael had questioned Gabriel about not bringing his granddaughter-in-law back and left him with multiple inquiries, he ended with two sentences.
"Remember, it's my birthday this weekend!"
"Although it's not a major celebration, there will be guests from all directions. I've already told people about you having a girlfriend. You decide whether to bring the person back or not."
Jessica leaned her head against the car door, her hand fiddling with the door for a while, almost wishing she could jump out and escape.
But the Bentley's seal and interior protection were too good, and after she fiddled with it for a while, there was no trace.
