Chapter 79 Harriman's Icon

Jessica stayed home to recover for a full five days. The doctor came for a house call and said she was recovering well. She could finally take off the neck brace for a few hours a day.

She also prayed that both she and Spencer could quickly forget what happened that night - the hugs, the menstruation talk, the herbal remedy for menstrual pain - all those embarrassing things that she wanted to forget as soon as possible.

Although the man had been acting normal these past few days, as if nothing had happened at all.

She wished he could truly have amnesia at this moment!

She rarely had the opportunity to take off the brace for a couple of hours, so Jessica took Mackenzie's car to visit Zoey, who was also a patient.

Zoey had just finished his junior year and was doing an internship. He still had to go back to the dorm most of the time, but she had a roommate who was even busier with her own internship, so they rarely saw each other.

When Zoey saw Jessica visiting her, she quickly tidied up the bed for her to sit on. "Jessica, please sit. You haven't completely recovered yet, why did you come to see me?"

Seeing that Zoey's arm was moving freely and had recovered well, Jessica finally felt relieved.
"Our son Zoey pinned me directly to the seat when the accident happened, protecting me with all his might. I couldn't be heartless and ignore you," Jessica said as she got up and walked to the window, looking toward the direction of their college campus. Then she turned around and asked, "I didn't pay much attention to the situation outside the car that day. Do you remember the details before we got hit?"

Zoey nodded vigorously, "I remember. The police came to take my statement a couple of days ago, and I told them in detail."

"The car came directly towards us?" Jessica asked.

"Yes, the police suspect that the driver was drunk because his alcohol level was high. But Maria, the driver in our car, and I saw it clearly. The car wasn't randomly crashing into things. It was driving smoothly and then suddenly sped up toward us just as it was about to pass our car."

Zoey spoke with conviction, "Do you remember the scream I let out? When I saw the driver coming toward us, his eyes were directly locked onto our car. I can't forget that look, it was terrifying!"

Initially, Jessica thought it was just a simple accident. However, Mackenzie had casually asked her on the phone these past few days if she had offended anyone on set or anywhere else. Mackenzie didn't want to ruin her mood, so she didn't say it directly, but Jessica still sensed something was wrong.

According to Zoey's account, the driver intentionally crashed into them.

The water under the bridge was particularly turbulent, and considering the circumstances, if the car had fallen into the river, they probably wouldn't have survived without someone rescuing them. They wouldn't have been able to escape from the car because the nanny’s car was highly sealed. Without a proper tool to break the window, the doors and windows wouldn't open under the pressure of the river.

Someone wanted them dead.

More accurately, someone wanted Jessica dead.

Mackenzie kept asking if she had offended anyone. First, there was almost a replacement for her role on set, and now this sudden dangerous situation.

"Jessica, I think Mackenzie should hire a bodyguard for you," Zoey said just as Mackenzie opened the door and walked in, holding the fruits he had just bought for Jessica downstairs.

Mackenzie immediately interjected, "No need for you to think, I've already hired one. When you go back to work next week, the bodyguard will accompany you."

Jessica didn't say anything. Although she hadn't reached the point where she needed a bodyguard by her side, given the current situation where she herself was unsure of what was happening, there was no need to refuse.

But who had she offended?
Under the bright sun, who could possibly want her life like this?

That day on set, Trinity looked at her standing behind the curtain, and the anger and fear in Trinity's eyes appeared in Jessica's eyes.

When Trinity was a child, the Jenner family had an adorable folded-ear cat that Trinity particularly liked. She would cuddle and feed it every day. Suddenly, one day, the cat accidentally tore her beloved lace dress. She became furious, picked up a large stone next to her foot, and mercilessly killed the cat.

The scene of bloodshed is something Jessica hasn't forgotten to this day.

Later, she had a pet rabbit. Not long after, for a similar reason, she threw the rabbit into the hot water pot that the Jenner family's servant used for ironing and scalded the rabbit to death.

From childhood to adulthood, no matter how much Trinity used to love something, once it became unnecessary in her eyes, she would personally make it disappear.
Like the cat and the rabbit back then, and five years ago, Jessica.

After witnessing her sister's cruel side time and time again, Jessica finally decided to tell her parents, hoping to arrange for a psychologist to see her.

However, after the psychologist diagnosed Trinity, they said that Trinity had a great personality and there was no side that Jessica described. They even said Trinity was good at chatting, intelligent, sweet, and cute. They believed she was a child worth nurturing.

Her parents felt guilty towards Trinity and, afraid that she might be influenced by this, they took a broom from the servant's hands and beat Jessica in front of her.
Because Jessica was the one who lied.
She escaped the fire five years ago and today, five years later, she still hasn't died.

"Jessica? What kind of bodyguard do you want? Do you want someone tall, strong, and capable, or do you want someone attentive and polite like Zoey?" Mackenzie's voice suddenly approached.

Jessica lifted her gaze and looked at Mackenzie walking toward her. "Having Zoey alone being so attentive is enough."

"Alright, I'll inform the studio and have them hire someone. We'll find a strapping young man," Mackenzie said as she picked up her cellphone and sent a WeChat message to the studio's recruitment employee.

Zoey piped up, "I think finding a good man for Jessica to marry would be the best..."
Both Jessica and Mackenzie's eyes immediately turned toward her, staring intently.
Zoey immediately shut up, feeling embarrassed. "Sorry, I forgot. How could Jessica get married so early? She must win numerous awards as an actress before considering marriage."

Mackenzie glanced at her, with a look that said, "Well, at least you still have some survival instinct," and continued to text on her phone.

Jessica remained silent, and then turned her gaze towards the window. Her eyes looked beyond the campus, toward the buildings outside. It seemed that a few streets away, there was a very tall seven-star hotel, with two high-end supermarkets and shopping malls nearby, all displaying a simple and elegant logo resembling the letter "H."
