Chapter 360 Gabriel Originally Looked Straight Ahead
'What a mess!' Jessica rolled her eyes at the bright light on the police station ceiling, lowered her voice, and said into the phone, "He's here to bail someone else out, not me! What does that have to do with me? Wayne was there when I got into the fight tonight!"
There was a pause on Mackenzie's end before she said, "Oh, but I'm already home. The car just pulled into the garage. Since Mr. Harriman is at the police station, why not have him bail you out? Do you really want me to come back?
"I'm over thirty, not as young as you. At my age, sleep is crucial. I'm not married yet, I need to get married, have kids, and maintain a healthy sleep schedule! And Jessica, I'm not your manager, I'm your partner! If you need something, go find Lynn!
"Besides, Mr. Harriman is already there. Bailing you out is a small favor. He won't refuse. If needed, just act cute and plead a little."
Jessica hung up, expressionless.
Wayne returned with a smile and asked, "Mackenzie can't come over?"
Jessica closed her eyes and replied, "No, she's almost here."
Wayne coughed and lowered his voice, "Ms. Jenner, the police station was quiet, and your voice wasn't exactly low. We heard everything."
Jessica glared at Wayne, then looked past him to Gabriel standing at the entrance.
She quickly looked away. "No need. I'll stay here for the night and have them pick me up in the morning."
"It's late, and there's no place to sleep here. The police station is full of men. It's not good for you to rest on a chair." Wayne smiled. "Why not let Mr. Harriman help you?"
"No need!" Jessica answered firmly, "I'll make another call, and someone will come. Mackenzie was just joking; she won't leave me here. You can go."
To prove Mackenzie wasn't that unreliable, Jessica called her again and put it on speaker, intending for Wayne to hear Mackenzie's sincere promise to pick her up.
"I'm sorry, the number you dialed is turned off. Sorry..." The cold, mechanical voice echoed through the hall.
Gabriel had just returned from the Harriman family today, not in a suit but a white sports outfit. As he walked out of the police station, his all-white attire stood out under the streetlights.
He looked good.
When Gabriel took out his car key to unlock the door, Jessica paused by his car.
She said, "Thanks for bailing me out. It's close to where I live; I can walk back."
Gabriel glanced at her, opened the car door, his expression calm and distant, with a hint of sarcasm, "Do you think tonight hasn't been chaotic enough?"
Wayne had already hopped into the car, taking the back seat and leaving the front open. He leaned out and said, "Ms. Jenner, it's really late. Even if it's close, it's not safe to walk alone, especially since your hat and mask fell off during the fight. You could get recognized."
Jessica suddenly remembered her face was exposed. Luckily, it was late, so the chances of being photographed were slim, but walking home could still get her noticed.
She pushed her hair to cover her face, glanced around, then looked at Wayne, who was earnestly inviting her into the car, and finally at Gabriel, standing coldly in the night.
Since things had already gone this far, she decided to accept the help.
She was about to open the back door, but Wayne seemed to prefer she didn't sit there.
With no other choice, Jessica opened the front door and sat in the passenger seat.
Funny enough, earlier tonight, Nicholas had mocked her in this car, and she didn't get in. Now, here she was.
After Gabriel got in, Wayne, who was used to being ignored by Gabriel at work, didn't chat much. He politely asked, "How's Mr. Michael Harriman's health? Is he okay?"
"Same old issues," Gabriel replied calmly, not even glancing at the silent Jessica beside him.
As they drove out of the police station, Gabriel's asked coldly, "Where do you live?"
It was clearly directed at Jessica.
While fastening her seatbelt, Jessica said, "Just drop me off at Star Tower. I'll go to the studio first."
Coincidentally, Wayne's car was also parked nearby, so he could pick it up.
Gabriel didn't respond, and Jessica sat quietly, scrolling through her phone. Suddenly, she asked, "How much was the bail? Was it one hundred and thirty dollars? I..."
She was about to say she'd transfer it to him but stopped herself.
A year and a half ago, she had deleted and blocked him on WhatsApp. How could she transfer it?
Not just him, but everyone around him—Wayne, Landon, and Nicholas—she had deleted them all, with no contact whatsoever.
She put down her phone, looked out the window, and said, "I'll have Mackenzie transfer it to your company account tomorrow."
Gabriel said nothing, neither accepting nor refusing.
Wayne, however, laughed from the back seat. "Ms. Jenner, don't joke. We have known each other for too long. Transferring one hundred and thirty dollars to the company account is a bit too formal."
Jessica replied casually, "After all, I caused the trouble. I should take responsibility."
She paused and then added, "Oh right, and Wayne's share of the money. He was detained because of me. I'll have Mackenzie transfer his share as well."
Gabriel, who had been looking ahead while driving, suddenly stopped at a red light and glanced at her.
That glance was calm and cold, with no warmth.
Wayne was about to say it wasn't necessary, but Gabriel's indifferent voice interrupted, "Suit yourself."
Wayne couldn't say another word and instinctively felt a chill in his legs.
