Chapter 438 Writing Protecting My Beloved Wife on His Face
If you didn't really know the Harriman family's web of connections, it was super easy to get lost.
The so-called person who'd known since childhood they'd be by Gabriel's side? Yeah, that was just a fiancée the family set up for him.
Kimberly hoped Gabriel wouldn't bother responding to this stuff anymore, or maybe he was just 'too lazy' to deal with it.
I mean, he didn't even have an Instagram account, and their company's official Instagram was always super professional. She doubted he'd use the Harriman Group's official Instagram to keep clearing things up for Jessica.
Plus, these online rumors are total nonsense. What she said wasn't defamatory or slanderous; it just left room for people to speculate.
Before heading back to the bedroom, Gabriel noticed Jessica looking upset, clutching her phone. It was like a spark had ignited something inside her, causing an explosion of emotions.
She looked up at him but didn't say a word, clearly trying to hold it together.
Without a second thought, Gabriel took the phone from her hand and saw the screenshots Mackenzie had sent.
Jessica didn't stop him. Those few seconds Gabriel spent looking at the screenshots felt like an eternity to her.
Gabriel's eyes were glued to her phone. Jessica had no idea what he'd say or do next. Though Danielle was their daughter and needed no explanation, Jessica would lose it, if Danielle's existence was dragged through the mud.
She could handle slander and gossip aimed at her, but not at her daughter!
Jessica stood next to him, staring at the phone screen. "I thought Kimberly was just some girl secretly in love with you, who'd maybe cry to your parents if she was upset. If I saw her again at the Harriman family events, she'd be unkind, and that'd be it. But I didn't expect her to target a six-year-old and shift all the conflict onto a child."
Gabriel didn't say a word. The next second, he acted like the screenshots on Jessica's phone didn't exist, handed the phone back to her, and took her hand to lead her back to the bedroom.
"I'll handle it. You go take a bath." Once in the room, Gabriel nodded towards the bathroom while picking up his own phone.
Honestly, if Jessica wanted to fight back directly, she had plenty of legit ways to clear things up.
But Kimberly was Gabriel's adopted sister. Even though she didn't see her as Gabriel's real sister, she still had to consider his parents' feelings. She couldn't just go after Kimberly or fight back on Instagram. This was something she couldn't solve without Gabriel, and letting him handle it was the best move.
She didn't want Gabriel to use their company's official Instagram again, even though it was more authoritative, because she didn't want to risk the company's image. If it kept posting because of her, it would feel wrong. There needed to be a balance between public and private matters.
Jessica headed into the bathroom. The past couple of days had been crazy, and even though things were looking up, she was exhausted. A bath was the perfect remedy.
Sitting in the spacious bathtub, the water temperature was just right, incredibly soothing.
She closed her eyes a bit, found a comfy spot to lean back, and grabbed her phone to check the group chat where Mackenzie and the team were talking. Mostly, it was Mackenzie and Lynn setting up some positive PR articles.
She'd only seen a few screenshots earlier. Now, she opened Instagram to get the full picture. Kimberly's Instagram was blowing up. Like those marketing accounts said, anything related to Gabriel and Jessica lately was causing a stir. Even though Gabriel wasn't in showbiz, his status, mystery, and looks made him a hot topic, even more than top-tier celebs.
She searched for the trending topic and saw someone was definitely stirring the pot. All the posts were pushing the idea that Gabriel might really have a fiancée and that Jessica had somehow schemed her way into becoming his wife. Jessica was so young, yet her kid was already six, leading to all kinds of wild theories.
There were already a lot of people doubting whether Jessica had really come between some great love story.
After all, there were photos of her with the Harriman family parents in the UK, looking all cozy like a family.
Jessica thought for a moment. Even though she couldn't directly bypass the Harriman family parents, it didn't mean she couldn't clear things up for herself.
Since this involved Danielle, she couldn't stay quiet any longer.
So, while everyone was wondering if Jessica would stay silent like before, they suddenly saw her repost a short story on her Instagram.
The story was about a newlywed couple deeply in love. Two months later, the wife got pregnant but was falsely accused by the husband's sister of having an affair with a servant, claiming the child was illegitimate. After extreme slander, the wife was forced to have an abortion and eventually committed suicide in despair. The police investigated and found that the so-called sister was actually the husband's parents' adopted daughter, not a biological sibling. The sister had feelings for her brother and resented the wife, leading to the false accusations.
Jessica just reposted this story without adding a single word. But because she had always been calm about these rumors and never impulsively responded like many female celebs, even a few days ago, she had only sarcastically commented on the authenticity of the rumors.
Her sudden repost of this story perfectly mirrored Kimberly's actions.
Instantly, the comments, reposts, and views on Jessica's Instagram blew up, with constant arguments in the comments.
Jessica leaned back in the bathtub, planning to check the comments on Kimberly's Instagram when she suddenly saw her Instagram notifications skyrocket alarmingly.
She couldn't help but exit and re-enter to check, only to see comments saying who had liked her post. After scrolling through dozens of comments, she realized they were saying that Gabriel had instantly registered and verified an Instagram account. His first action on Instagram was to like Jessica's reposted story.
And it was just through the bathroom door.
So fast?
Jessica quickly checked and indeed saw that Gabriel had just verified his Instagram account and liked her reposted story.
No one could have imagined that the always aloof, and mysterious CEO of Harriman Group would one day use Instagram and his first action would be to like Jessica's post, almost as if he wanted to write "protecting my beloved wife" on his face!
