Chapter 381 I'm very grateful, okay?
When the medical staff came to check his wound and change his dressing again, Jessica took out the takeout boxes she had just packed and threw them away.
When she returned, the medical staff were explaining the precautions for Gabriel's wound. It didn't sound like a routine check-up because she heard keywords like "after you go back", "make sure to rest more", and "you can have a family doctor visit".
By the time the medical staff left, the medicine on Gabriel's back and his hospital uniform had already been changed.
She walked over and asked, "Are you being discharged?"
"Yes." Gabriel nodded.
"Your wound hasn't healed yet. You've only been in the hospital for two days, and you're already being discharged?"
Gabriel replied, "I'll recuperate slowly after returning to Xyleria. There's no need to stay in Stellaria City longer."
"What did the doctor say? I heard the doctor give a lot of instructions. They must think your wound isn't suitable for travel right now. If something happens to your wound during the trip, like inflammation or swelling, by the time you get back to Xyleria, you might have lost a lot of blood." Jessica was worried. Although she didn't show it on her face, her tone clearly indicated she didn't want him to be discharged in such a short time.
Gabriel's delicate eyebrows moved slightly. "Am I so fragile?"
Jessica stood by the bed, looking at him. "You can't even eat by yourself. You currently have trouble taking care of yourself. Isn't that fragile enough?"
A hint of a smile played on Gabriel's lips. He didn't argue and even followed her words, "Indeed, returning to Xyleria is necessary, but given my current condition, I do need someone to take care of me."
There is no doubt he knew his injury well. With Gabriel's steady and strategic nature, insisting on returning to Xyleria must mean there was work or other important matters waiting for him there.
Since he had already discussed this with the doctor, Jessica had no necessity to stop him from being discharged.
She simply nodded, "You do need someone to take care of you. You can ask Sarah from the Harriman family or another servant to take care of you, or hire one more nurse."
"Why don't you do it?"
Her tone choked. At first, she thought she had misheard. She suddenly met his gaze and saw Gabriel looking at her with a smile in his eyes, clearly not allowing her to refuse.
"Me?" Jessica raised her hand and pointed at herself.
Gabriel's voice was calm, and his gaze remained steady. "Who do you think I got this injury for? Isn't it only right for you to take care of me?"
Jessica was so angry that she laughed. "Gabriel, if it weren't for you saving my life, if it weren't for you getting injured because of me, I wouldn't still be in Stellaria City. I've been sincere enough. Don't push your luck!"
Gabriel seemed not to notice the anger in her eyes. He closed his eyes, as if his shoulder hurt, and said in a deep voice, "I supposed the way I repayed years ago set a good example for you. I didn't expect you to learn so well on your own. Which heartless master taught you this?"
She looked incredulous. "Who's heartless?"
Gabriel leaned against the soft pillow, moving his shoulder as if he wanted to lie down but couldn't do it himself. He glanced at her again. "Obviously you can see it, I currently have trouble taking care of myself. I can't even eat or bathe by myself. I probably can't even go to the bathroom on my own. Are you sure you want to be so heartless and leave me unattended?"
She gritted her teeth. "It's not like you don't have the money to hire someone to take care of you. If you don't trust others, you can trust the Harriman family's servants. Why ask me to serve you?"
Gabriel calmly said something that could drive her mad, "You owe me."
Jessica had an exasperated expression and rolled her eyes. "Gabriel, we have already broke up! And it's been two years! Shouldn't we keep a distance?"
Gabriel gave her a faint glance. "What does breaking up have to do with repaying back? I'm asking you to take care of my daily needs, nothing more. If you really want to, it depends on whether I'm willing."
Previously, they had stayed out of each other's worlds, maintaining the distance that exes should have. Wasn't that good?
Gabriel was not one to overstep her bounds.
Gabriel wasn't a shameless person. (At least not on the surface.)
Jessica held back her temper, remembering the day he suddenly protected her under him, the blood flowing from his body. Even at that moment, when he couldn't move, he still insisted on protecting her.
It wasn't like they broke up because of some deep-seated hatred. It's impossible to keep him seperated from her heart.
Her sanity told her she couldn't do this.
She should stop.
After a brief silence, Jessica spoke, "Even if I go back to Xyleria, I won't have time. Your company's Harriman Entertainment is one of the investors in 'Shadow Kill.' You should know how tight the filming schedule is. So even if I want to repay you, I don't have the time."
Gabriel didn't say anything. He just closed his eyes, as if he wanted to raise his hand. Jessica saw his slow movements and instinctively reached out to help him. "What do you need?"
When Gabriel got close to the bed, he opened his eyes and met her concerned gaze. His face wasn't feigning weakness; it was genuinely pale from blood loss. His thin lips moved slightly, and he said in an innocent tone, "It hurts."
Gabriel put his hand down again, as if nothing had happened, but there was a slight curve to his lips. "If I starve to death at home or fall in the bathroom with no one to help, it's my own fault. But you might lose sleep every night and won't be able to work peacefully."
Jessica quickly took a step back, trying to hide the concern she had just naturally shown.
She pursed her lips and found an imperfect excuse. "You got hurt because of me. It's natural for me to care about you. It shows I'm not heartless. I'm very grateful, okay?"
Gabriel responded with a faint "Hmm" and said, "Then prove it to me."
So, to prove she was grateful, Jessica returned to Xyleria and, appeared again on the thirty-second floor of Blue Bay Apartments after two years.
When the elevator passed the thirty-first floor, Jessica glanced at the reflection of the two of them on the elevator door, not looking at the numbers above. When it stopped on the thirty-second floor, she had no choice but to follow him out.
Gabriel's legs were indeed fine. As long as he didn't need to raise his arms or move his shoulders, walking normally wasn't a problem. He didn't need her to support him all the time.
But for small tasks like pressing the elevator button, carrying luggage, and opening doors, she had to do them all.
