Chapter 261 I Don't See How You Resemble
Who was this woman?
Nicholas asked indifferently, "Do you know her?"
Jessica glanced at the young woman again. Of course, she knew Fiona, the heiress of the Miller Group.
Not many people knew about Jessica's status in the Jenner family, but the Miller family and the Jenner family were old acquaintances. Although Fiona's relationship with Trinity had cooled over the years and they rarely contacted each other, they were as close as sisters when they were young. Fiona knew all too well about Jessica, the neglected eldest daughter of the Jenner family.
Jessica had often been mocked by the high-and-mighty Fiona when they were kids.
The Miller family had decent manners, so Fiona's mockery never escalated to bullying like Trinity's did.
However, Fiona's privileged upbringing made her look down on Jessica, who grew up almost in the shadows of the Jenner family. Fiona often viewed Jessica with disdain, as if she were a lower life form, and kept her distance.
The two families interacted frequently, and over time, Fiona got used to Jessica's presence. Whenever Fiona visited the Jenner family with her parents, she would often ask Jessica to serve her drinks or bring her fruit, treating her like a servant. But Fiona never consumed anything Jessica served, as if she just wanted to make her work, showing clear disdain for anything Jessica touched.
Fiona enjoyed her sense of superiority, a feeling of satisfaction from the stark contrast between their lives, even if she didn't fully understand it at the time.
Jessica's most vivid memory of Fiona was when Fiona was dining in the Jenner family's living room. Eugene was berating Jessica, demeaning her worth, saying that no one would buy a girl like her even if she were sold. Fiona innocently remarked, "Uncle Eugene, that's not true. The news says many young girls are sold to remote areas and are quite popular. Someone would buy her if she were sold there, right?"
Fiona's parents thought her comment was inappropriate and mildly scolded her.
Fiona didn't think she was wrong and continued eating in silence before dragging Trinity off to play.
The two of them, holding various expensive dolls, played house in the living room. When they noticed Jessica watching them, they seemed to feel contaminated by her presence and retreated to a room, slamming the door to shut out Jessica's silent gaze.
Jessica's impression of Fiona was limited to those incidents. She didn't know much about her later on, only hearing that the Miller family's business was thriving. Fiona's father even spent 200 million dollars buying her a private jet when she was 18 years old.
Fiona was indeed very pampered, to the point where even Trinity occasionally felt envious of her.
Fiona scrutinized Jessica's outfit and the meticulously packed shopping bags in front of her. When she saw the Hermès Himalayan Birkin bag, which she had been on a waiting list for months but was swiftly delivered to Jessica by Nicholas from the Harriman family, her expression turned even more sour.
"I have reserved this package for two or three months. What does this mean?" she asked the mall's VIP service staff, displeased.
"Sorry, Ms. Miller, this isn't the bag you reserved. Designers from Paris and the Netherlands happened to bring this newly crafted Himalayan Birkin for a luxury exhibition. It just arrived in our store this afternoon and was bought by Ms. Jenner tonight."
Fiona's face darkened. "But I had a reservation. I have more right to this bag than some random person. Since it's already packed, charge it to the Miller Group, and I'll take it."
She reached out to take the shopping bag.
"Sorry, Ms. Miller, that's not possible. The bill is already charged to the Harriman Group. We can't make that decision," the staff quickly intervened, apologizing profusely to Fiona. "We'll expedite your reserved bag, but you can't take this one."
Hearing the name Harriman Group, Fiona, despite her displeasure, refrained from forcibly taking the bag. She glanced at Jessica again, incredulous.
Jessica remained silent, watching Fiona being stopped by the clerk, her delicate face gradually showing rare frustration and anger.
Nicholas, arms crossed, watched the scene indifferently. "I didn't think you were someone anyone could bully. Why does everyone think they can push you around?"
Fiona heard this with sharp ears. The young man's voice was pleasant, a mix of clarity and the casual arrogance of a noble, making people turn their heads.
She had been too shocked by Jessica's ability to afford such expensive items to notice the young man beside her. Now, she looked at Nicholas.
Seeing the young man with his hands casually in his pockets, wearing a blue casual shirt, Fiona's expression froze. Then she said in surprise, "You're Harriman..."
Nicholas didn't give her a chance to speak, his face showing clear annoyance. "Too much talking."
Fiona's expression stiffened, her fingers tightening on her handbag.
Nicholas didn't know her.
But she knew him.
The Miller Group held a significant position in Xyleria and the surrounding regions, enough to be considered a match for the Harriman family.
Last month, her parents discussed finding a suitable match for their precious daughter, someone from a family as prestigious as theirs.
And the best option...
If Gabriel was out of reach, Nicholas from the Harriman family was a good choice. Though young, he was undoubtedly suitable. In a few years, he would be on par with Gabriel. Fiona, at twenty-four, was only two years older than Nicholas, making them a good match.
If Fiona agreed, her parents were ready to discuss the matter with the Harriman family, hoping to establish a connection. Their family was just about qualified for it.
