Chapter 351 Why Does It Have to Be Him
Jessica suddenly remembered that fan group.
Whenever she and Kevin were at the same event, fans would Photoshop them together, even if they weren't standing close. For instance, if Jessica was smiling at someone else, they'd edit it to make it look like she was smiling at Kevin.
If they were actually photographed together, fans would go wild.
She glanced at him. "Do you check out those pictures and posts?"
Kevin grinned. "Honestly, I've even started to believe them."
Ignoring his attempt to play up their couple image, she focused on arranging the flowers on the table.
As the main actors, they couldn't sit quietly for long. They barely exchanged a few words before more sponsors and industry friends came over. Kevin stayed by Jessica's side, occasionally getting up to chat but always returning.
Jessica also chatted with industry friends until Sebastian came over, patted both her and Kevin on the shoulder, and said, "You've seen the investor list, right? Harriman Entertainment, Starry Sky, Nine Towers—they're the big backers of our film. Especially Harriman Entertainment, which invested 70 million dollars. If there's a funding gap during post-production, they'll cover it. The president, Mr. Nicholas Harriman, is abroad, but I managed to invite Gabriel Harriman, the head of Harriman Group. He's here today, so why don't you two come with me to greet him?"
Jessica didn't react at first, but Kevin glanced at her.
Seeing they weren't getting up, unlike others eager to meet Gabriel, Sebastian clarified, "I mean you two, come with me to greet Mr. Harriman. Our film's success depends on Harriman Entertainment. We can't afford to neglect such an important investor!"
"Alright." Kevin stood up and signaled Jessica with his eyes.
Jessica slowly put her phone back in her bag. Kevin couldn't tell what she was thinking, but he knew she probably didn't want to meet Gabriel.
But avoiding it wasn't an option.
Jessica finally stood up, and Sebastian led them to the left side of the banquet hall. They nodded and greeted industry folks along the way. Near the front, they saw Gabriel at a table, chatting with an elderly man who seemed like an longtime family friend, occasionally patting Gabriel's arm.
Sebastian greeted them first. Gabriel waited for the old man to finish before turning to Sebastian with a polite smile.
Jessica and Kevin waited a few minutes before Gabriel looked their way.
Sebastian introduced them, "Mr. Harriman, this is Kevin and Jessica, our film's leads. Their acting skills and popularity are top-notch. This is their second collaboration, so filming should go smoothly."
Gabriel's expression was blank as he met Jessica's eyes, showing no recognition.
Kevin spoke first, "Hello, Mr. Harriman. Last time I saw you was about two years ago in Z City. Didn't expect to work with Harriman Entertainment."
Seeing Gabriel's cold demeanor, Kevin didn't bother with a handshake, just nodded with a smile.
Jessica also smiled professionally, "Hello, Mr. Harriman."
She never expected to see Gabriel again. Their paths had crossed only briefly in the past, and they hadn't spoken since they were both in W City.
Yet here they were, in a formal meeting.
Gabriel, in a crisp suit, didn't stand to greet them. To him, they were just small actors in a capital-driven industry, while he was at the very top.
Jessica remembered Gabriel as approachable, at least to her. He never made her feel intimidated.
But now, he seemed the same yet somehow different. Still handsome and upright, but with a cold, distant demeanor like an ice wall.
Mackenzie once said, "Never fall in love with someone too outstanding when you're young."
'Why is it him out of all people?' she thought. 'Why it has to be him?'
Jessica kept a calm face, wearing a polite smile, but her heart kept sinking. Her fingers were cold, and she just wanted Gabriel to say something to end the awkwardness.
Seeing Gabriel remain silent, Sebastian smiled kindly. "No need to be too formal. Mr. Gabriel Harriman is here on behalf of Mr. Nicholas Harriman, right? Last year, I helped with another TV series invested by Harriman Entertainment, though I wasn't the main producer, just helping a friend."
