Chapter 227 The Warmth in His Hands

Chapter 227 The Warmth in His Hand

Finally seeing who had arrived, Jessica's ears were still filled with the incessant sounds of a man and woman making love in the room.

Wayne, who had followed behind, quickly stepped forward and shut the door, cutting off the nauseating noise.

It wasn't the two people in the room that were nauseating, but the whole situation.

As soon as Jessica's ears found some peace, she came back to her senses and instinctively grabbed Gabriel's sleeve. "Are you okay?"

Gabriel's deep, dark eyes looked at her. "What do you think?"

He was standing there, neatly dressed, clearly not having fallen into any trap, so he should be fine.

But Jessica's hand accidentally brushed against his, feeling an unusual warmth.

She didn't say anything, just looked at him in surprise. Gabriel, however, pressed her hand down, patting it reassuringly. At the same time, he glanced back and saw Donna, who was standing nearby, wanting to run but unsure whether she should due to the unclearsituation. His dark eyes were filled with extreme indifference.

"Take her to the car," Gabriel ordered in a low, hoarse voice, exuding a calm coldness.

Wayne walked over, looked at Jessica, and nodded, indicating that she should listen to Gabriel. It wasn't suitable for her to stay here at this moment, lest she get implicated when the leaders from Xyleria came upstairs.

Those people had already became so audacious as to plot against Gabriel.

Since Gabriel wanted her to leave first, there must be a compelling reason for he to do so.

Jessica didn't insist on staying. After all, the current situation had no benefit for her.

Just before she turned to follow Wayne into the elevator, she suddenly glanced at Donna, who was still full of shock and fear. Donna was also looking at her, at the hands that had almost intertwined with Gabriel's, and at Gabriel's arm that had just been around Jessica's waist.

Donna's eyes were filled with disbelief.

Just as Jessica entered the elevator, another elevator stopped on the third floor. Percy, half-drunk and unsteady, stepped out, his steps unsteady. When he suddenly saw Donna, he paused, then he turned and saw Gabriel standing outside the door, his face changing instantly.

"Mr. Brooks, you seem to be enjoying yourself," Gabriel said.

Percy's eyes swept blankly over Gabriel, then suddenly turned to the tightly closed door opposite and the faint sounds of a man and woman inside. His legs immediately weaked.

The elevator doors slowly closed, and Jessica could no longer hear what was happening on the third floor. But her heart was pounding like a drum. Looking at her reflection in the elevator's mirrored wall, she suddenly realized what she had just done on the third floor.

Wayne glanced at her, seeing Jessica's bewildered and complex expression.

He had been with Gabriel the whole time and had seen through the trick as Gabriel was about to enter the private room. Unlike Jessica, he wasn't tense. He just looked at Jessica and then smiled, asking, "Ms. Jenner, are you okay?"

Jessica looked back at Wayne through the mirrored wall, seeing the obvious hint of teasing in his eyes. Her face immediately turned red, and she coughed. "I'm fine. I didn't drink anything spiked."

If Gabriel hadn't noticed something was off before entering the private room and coincidentally discovered that Donna had brought a substitute to turn the tables, Jessica wouldn't have so conveniently avoided drinking the spiked wine that the waiter had deliberately brought.

Wayne didn't say anything. After the elevator stopped, he politely pointed outside. Jessica walked out and followed Wayne to the parking lot, where she saw Gabriel's car  there.

"Mr. Harriman will be out soon. Ms. Jenner, please rest in the car for a while," Wayne said, opening the back door.

"Thank you."

Jessica sat in the car and suddenly realized she was holding something. Looking down, she saw it was the room card that Donna had deliberately slipped to her earlier.

The scene in the room flashed in her mind again, and Jessica, as if struck by lightning, threw the card out of the car with a look of disgust just as the door was about to close.

As Wayne, seeing it from outside, ound Jessica amusing, he couldn't help but laugh again. After closing the car door, he bent down to pick up the discarded room card and tossed it into a nearby trash can.

The car was very quiet and clean, without the usual gasoline smell often found in cars. The not-so-cramped but inexplicably safe-feeling enclosed space had a calm and peaceful atmosphere, allowing her to reflect on what had just happened.

Cynthia had once confidently said, "You really like Gabriel."

Why not give it a try?

No, she couldn't afford to try.

However, it seemed her feelings weren't as rational as she thought.

What kind of emotions had driven her to the third floor, to push open that door, and how had she felt when Gabriel covered her eyes and led her out of the room?

She knew very well.

Jessica leaned her head against the car door, absentmindedly rubbing the back of her hand.

She had felt the warmth of Gabriel's hand when her hand brushed against his.

Even in such a situation, he could remain calm as if nothing had happened.

She rubbed the back of her hand for a while, looking down at it. Anyone who didn't know better might think she had fallen asleep leaning against the car door, but she was wide awake.

About ten minutes later, she seemed to hear Wayne's respectful voice outside the car, "Mr. Harriman, Ms. Jenner seems to have fallen asleep in the car."

She wasn't asleep.

She lifted her head, about to look outside, when she suddenly heard the other car door open. She turned to Gabriel, wrapped in the winter chill of a Sunshine Bay City night, getting into the car.

As Jessica turned her gaze, Gabriel looked at her. "Stii awake?"

She quickly sat up straight. "Yes, I'm awake. I'm not a child. How could I fall asleep in the car after something so significant happened? Do I seem that indifferent to you?"

Gabriel sat beside her, and as the car door closed, Wayne had already walked around to the front, opened the driver's door, and got in.

Jessica had been about to ask Gabriel if he had drunk anything from the club, suspecting that the wine in the private room might have been fine, but something like the palate-cleansing coffee offered by the respectful waiters outside might have been tampered with.

But with Wayne in the car, she didn't ask much, just carefully observed Gabriel's face.

Gabriel appearednormal. Because of her focused gaze, he looked back at her. Their eyes met, and Jessica clearly saw a spark burning quietly in his dark eyes.
