Chapter 555 Sweet Extra Couple Variety Show 40

Lester and Rachel were standing by another stall, having a quiet argument. Both of them looked upset, especially when they saw Brent and Melissa flaunting their affection nearby. They turned their heads, looking around to avoid the sight.

Lester, a bit impatient, urged, "It's already broad daylight. If we wait any longer, the stuff in the market won't be as fresh. Let's buy something and head back. It's so hot out here, aren't you guys feeling it? There's an ice cream stand over there."

With that, Lester started heading towards the ice cream stand to buy some for everyone.

Rachel quickly followed him, whispering, "Why are you buying ice cream? Are we still having lunch or not? If we run out of money for the bus fare, we'll have to squeeze into the staff bus, which is crowded and hot. Can you be a bit more sensible?"

"It's just two bucks each, how expensive can it be? We're not that close with everyone else. Buying a few ice creams can help us strike up a conversation and fit in better. Don't you get it?" Lester replied, not wanting to argue further.

"Yeah, you're the expert! Why don't you try going hungry for a day like Brent does for his wife?" Rachel snapped back before walking away, not wanting to follow him anymore.

Lester didn't look back.

"Don't buy it. It's hot, but the temperature isn't that high yet. Save where you can," Clayton said, stopping Lester and giving him a look that suggested he should stop arguing with his girlfriend.

Lester gave up on buying the ice cream but still didn't intend to talk to Rachel.

Rachel walked over to where Jessica and Gabriel were. Although they were quiet, they were perfectly in sync, picking out vegetables at the stall. While others were considering which ones were cheaper or tastier, these two were discussing which combinations would be both delicious and cost-effective. Despite being in their twenties, they seemed as steady as a couple married for years.

If Jessica's behavior could be attributed to her acting skills, it wouldn't be surprising for her to play the role of a sweet, dutiful wife on camera, given that she's an actress.

But Gabriel, who was usually so aloof, seemed completely at ease in the bustling, chaotic market. He patiently accompanied Jessica, looking at various items, and even took off his jacket to drape it over her head to shield her from the sun.

Comparing Gabriel's considerate and warm demeanor to Lester's impatient and uncommunicative nature, Rachel felt even worse. She glanced at Jessica and noticed that Gabriel's eyes were often on her, his affection unmistakable.

Feeling stifled, Rachel turned to walk away. Melissa approached, holding a box of rice cakes with one piece missing. Seeing that Rachel was upset after arguing with Lester, she asked, "Rachel, want some red bean cake? It's really sweet and delicious."

Another person flaunting their relationship, Rachel thought, feeling even more uncomfortable. She forced a smile and said, "You have it."

Jessica noticed that Brent hadn't bought much, just some inexpensive vegetables and a box of instant noodles from the nearby Milton Market, likely planning to get by with that for the day.

Jessica also bought some items from Milton Market, discreetly picking up an extra vegetarian meal. She looked at Gabriel, who understood her intention and silently agreed.
