Chapter 181 Must Die Without a Burial Place
Just after the Four Seas Entertainment's announcement, Trinity's safest course of action should have been silence.
Yet she posted a cold expression on Facebook.
The statement's vague language ignited discussions among spectators. It began on company's official Facebook page, then spread to Keegan's and Trinity's pages. Even some went to Jessica's Facebook, openly or subtly mentioning the past Facebook likes incident, forcibly dragging Jessica into the conversation.
Trinity's cold expression indicated that neither the company contract nor the engagement was peacefully terminated.
Speculations online were rampant. Jessica, who was originally unrelated to the incident, was maliciously dragged into the situation. Even though the past incident had been explained, now the unreal aspects were once again brought up and tossed around by various marketing accounts.
Jessica deactivated her Facebook.
It had nothing to do with her; they should leave her alone, thank them!
But early the next morning, Mackenzie's consecutive calls abruptly awakened her. She heard Mackenzie's frantic voice on the other end, "How did you get involved with Donna?"
Who?
Jessica, still drowsy, glanced at Danielle sleeping beside her, then at the time on her phone—it was only six in the morning.
"What, Donna?" To avoid waking Danielle, she carefully got up and left the bedroom.
"After the announcement of the collaboration expiration between the Four Seas Entertainment and Trinity, you've been maliciously dragged into the limelight. Now Donna has come out to meddle. You've not only become the prime suspect in interfering with the actress's relationship but also a contemptible and arrogant person in the eyes of many! You've become the subject of ridicule!"
Mackenzie was furious. "Since your recent endorsement announcement, many big and small female stars in the industry have been eyeing you, discussing you behind your back, eager to find any leverage to bring you down swiftly. Yesterday's incident between the Four Seas Entertainment and Trinity has been manipulated to involve you. It seems like many are scheming behind the scenes to make you disappear from the industry! Especially that Donna, did you really see her at the banquet yesterday?"
Jessica felt puzzled. While it wasn't strange for others to try to undermine her, how could Donna be involved? Was there any connection?
"I met her and exchanged a few words, but we're not close."
"Do you know how she described you on Facebook? She claimed that when she saw you at the banquet for the first time, among so many female stars in the industry, especially a new face like you, she didn't recognize you as the spokesperson for Tilans. When she politely asked who you were, you supposedly arrogantly retorted, 'Don't you know me?' Your expression was described as extremely arrogant, as if you had a superiority complex, almost as if you had a mental issue, asking everyone you met, 'Don't you know me? I'm Jessica Jenner, the sole spokesperson for Tilans in the H District.' You apparently introduced yourself like that to everyone! She depicted you as an arrogant fool wagging your tail everywhere!"
Jessica was speechless.
Truly unbelievable.
For a moment, Jessica felt as if the online insults and curses were right at her lips, ready to burst out in anger, but she held back!
Jessica asked, "Does she have any evidence?"
Mackenzie replied, "She claimed Pamela Adams was right there and heard everything."
Upon hearing this, Jessica felt bad. While Pamela was a well-known tough agent in the industry, she belonged to a rival faction and managed other artists; she wouldn't help Jessica out.
"What did Pamela say?"
"She mentioned she wasn't sure about the specifics, but she did hear the words 'Don't you know me? I'm Jessica Jenner!' Everyone in the industry knows she has altars at home. Despite her strong demeanor in work matters, she never lies. She said she heard it! Several female stars in the industry who are close to Donna also reposted on Facebook, collectively condemning your behavior! Deborah also joined in to criticize you! How do you think people inside and outside the industry view you now? And those rabid fans on Facebook, especially the fans of these female idols, are fiercely protective. Your Facebook has been compromised!"
Jessica remained silent on her end. Mackenzie worriedly asked, "Did you really say that?"
As Jessica listened, she grew calmer, even losing her anger. "You know me well enough to believe such accusations."
"I don't believe it! I just don't understand why you would say such things. What happened at that time? What led to it?"
Jessica couldn't be bothered to revisit such a trivial matter, but Mackenzie was too concerned, so she briefly recounted the events over the phone.
After learning the reason behind Jessica's confrontation with Donna, Mackenzie's temper flared. "A scheming woman who plays the victim, taking advantage of the fact that everyone is watching and attacking you, stirs up trouble over such a trivial matter! At a time like this, who would help you? They all wish to see you drown in spit! All sorts of bizarre rumors are circulating about you, and everyone believes them!"
In recent times, with the success of "Charles II" before its broadcast and her role as a spokesperson, Jessica's rise in the industry had been too rapid. If her work and business resources couldn't be suppressed, they would target her character. By portraying her as a person of questionable moral character, naturally, there would be no further opportunities afforded.
If she gained what others couldn't, she would have to face a fate worse than death.
In just one day, public opinion rapidly fermented.
Historical inaccuracies were rehashed, and new scandals, from being a third party to having character issues, were blown out of proportion.
Just a single sentence at a banquet had spawned numerous versions, and in none of them was Jessica portrayed as a normal person.
She seemed like a being devoid of intelligence and normal cognitive abilities.
[No matter how big her background is, with such a bad character, I will definitely unfollow any drama she's in and give it a low rating! Let her be infamous!]
[Repeating these kinds of incidents, it's only because of her bad character that everyone is paying attention. Why isn't anyone else being dragged into interfering with the actress's relationship, but it's always Jessica? How can Jessica be so clean? Just look at her character; you'll know she's capable of anything!]
[Donna has peacefully coexisted with her sisters in the girl group for so long, a star who doesn't dare to grab the microphone or the spotlight in front of the camera. Why is this bad woman bullying her?]
[Donna Martin is only twenty years old; what did she do wrong?]
[Tilans's endorsement is so powerful, right? Daring to bully Donna! Be careful when attending events in the future! Our fans are not easy to mess with!]
As Jessica scrolled through her Facebook, she came across insulting private messages, including threats to her safety. Once again, she saw her profile picture edited into a black-and-white memorial photo, with Donna and Trinity's fans filling her name's square on the screen.
In the entertainment circle, being photoshopped twice with memorial photos by countless anonymous individuals hiding behind the internet was considered the highest level of treatment.
