Chapter 577 Sweet Extra of Couple Variety Show 62

Another half hour passed, and Clayton sighed, rubbing his forehead. "Alright, Mr. Harriman, I give up. You got me this time."

Gabriel, calm and composed, replied, "It's not over yet."

Clayton was taken aback.

He made a face that was hard to describe. "I've been staring at this board forever, and I can't find a single spot where I can place a piece without you capturing it."

Gabriel chuckled softly. Seeing that Clayton was genuinely stumped, he gestured with his eyes to the sixth position on the right side of the board. "How about here?"

Clayton glanced at the spot and frowned. "Isn't it the same? I looked at it earlier. Even if I place it here, within three moves, you'll... wait..."

Clayton paused, then placed a white piece down. He continued to study the board. Although Gabriel had been subtly tightening his grip from the start, this spot was indeed the best escape route. If he could hold on for three more moves, he might not lose as badly as before. He could at least regain some ground and buy some time to find his next move.

The game lasted nearly two hours. The other guests chatted quietly, enjoying the relaxation after a long, exhausting day in the sun. This moment of complete relaxation felt like the happiest and most refreshing time of the day.

Gabriel and Clayton played at a leisurely pace. With each move, Clayton couldn't help but marvel at Gabriel's strategic brilliance.

Over the past two days at the inn, everyone had gradually gotten used to the slightly more approachable Mr. Harriman. Gabriel blended in quickly, never flaunting his social status. He did everything everyone else did, never using his privileges. Clayton almost forgot that the man before him was the head of a multinational corporation worth billions of dollars.

Each of Gabriel's moves seemed calm and unassuming, without a hint of aggression. But in the end, every move was calculated and precise, revealing his strategic mastery.

Watching the game was like observing Gabriel's character. Clayton finally realized that Gabriel was, after all, Gabriel.

When Clayton had no more moves left, he couldn't help but sigh. "When I was a kid, my parents sent me to learn chess. Back then, parents weren't so keen on following trends. Not many people played chess, and those who did only knew the basics. I could barely keep up. But Mr. Harriman, with your busy schedule, how do you find time to study this?"

Gabriel didn't make another move. Cindy had just brought them coffee. He took a cup, thanked her, and said calmly, "I was forced to learn by my elders when I was a child."

"No wonder. Does Mr. Harriman still study chess in-depth?"

"No, as you said, I'm too busy. I don't have much time." Gabriel took a sip of coffee and set the cup down. He glanced back to see Kevin waking Amy and telling her to go to bed. He looked away, not intervening.

"Mr. Harriman, you're so good at this hobby. We common folks really are just common folks." Clayton laughed and sipped his coffee.

Gabriel glanced at Clayton because of his self-deprecating joke. Clayton waved it off, clearly joking, but he knew Gabriel was different from them. The chess game had shown him that. How could he not be secretly amazed at the vast differences between people?
