Chapter 274 Although Gabriel Did Not Get involved in This Matter
"I’ll be in later." The RV was close by, and just as Jessica was about to reach the open door, she saw two people rushing towards her with something in their hands.
Jessica, quick on her feet, was about to dodge when Cynthia suddenly pushed her from behind. Jessica stumbled forward faster and fell under the temporary tent set up in front of the RV door.
She quickly turned her head and saw Cynthia using her left elbow to block the arms of the two people behind her. At the same time, she leaned forward with her shoulder, directly knocking the taller and stronger one back.
Jessica then saw what the two were holding—two water bottles.
But the color of the liquid inside those bottles...
The two clearly didn't expect someone so skilled to be with Jessica. After being hit, they raised the bottles and tried to splash the liquid towards Jessica.
In a split second, Cynthia kicked one of them on the wrist, sending the bottle flying. The liquid splashed onto the ground and some onto the other person's clothes and neck, causing them to scream in pain. The bottle fell to the ground, spilling everywhere.
It was acid!
Jessica looked at the two in shock, then at Cynthia, who had already taken them down and subdued them.
Hearing the commotion, the crew and the RV's bodyguards rushed over. Seeing the acid on the ground and smelling the air, they all frowned. The producer looked at the scene and said, "Where did these lunatics come from? Call the police!"
Cynthia was a cop, but she wasn't on duty today. After handing the people over to the crew and Jessica's bodyguard, she walked back to Jessica without a word, as if she hadn't just taken down two people.
The scene was chaotic, with the crew running around, calling the police, and questioning the two attackers.
Cynthia told her to get in the RV, and Jessica pulled her along inside.
Mackenzie had also gone to check the scene and returned with a serious expression. "They tried to throw acid on you. This isn't something a regular hater would do."
Cynthia sat silently nearby. Mackenzie, who was a bit intimidated by Cynthia, sat down next to Jessica and asked in a low voice, "Do you have any idea what's going on?"
"The dance plagiarism issue has been brewing for two days. I haven't responded or arranged any PR. Even if Trinity didn't realize I had evidence yesterday. Sheshould have figured it out by now. Those two might not have been sent by her, but they're likely connected to her. Throwing acid to disfigure me is pointless unless they pour it down my throat to stop me from talking. But even then, I can still type. She's desperate."
"So," Cynthia, who had been silent, spoke up, "Mr. Harriman's concerns are not unfounded."
Jessica looked at Cynthia and then at the bodyguard standing outside the RV door.
Indeed, what she had to do was necessary, but as a public figure, her personal safety was a significant concern.
Even though Gabriel hadn't intervened, he had thought of everything for her.
The dance plagiarism issue continued to ferment.
"Charles II" was still airing, but now it was accompanied by criticism.
Two days later, an advertiser planned a live event, inviting several main actors to participate in an outdoor reality show to promote their brand and boost the show's ratings.
The sponsor didn't care aboute public opinion and knew that the recent issues between Jessica and Trinity had garnered a lot of attention. So, they invited both of them. Deborah couldn't make it due to scheduling conflicts, and knowing the dance plagiarism issue was too hot, anyone who attended would be overshadowed by Jessica and Trinity. So, only four or five main actors were invited.
Before heading to the live event, Jessica was touching up her makeup in the car. Since it was an outdoor reality show with no lighting, they had to rely on natural light, so the makeup had to be more natural.
Jessica had good skin, so her makeup was done quickly.
She was doing her hair when Mackenzie, sitting next to her, said, "Jessica, you've been criticized for four days. When do you plan to respond? I can barely hold off the company."
Jessica, unable to see outside from her position, asked, "Are there many people outside?"
"Yeah. This is held on the first floor of a mall, and there are thousands of people around the stage. The upper levels are also packed, and many couldn't even get inside."
"What do you think the viewership for today's live event will be?"
"Very high. Even before you appear, there are already over a million people waiting in the live stream."
Jessica turned back to herself in the mirror.
The show required the actors to wear costumes matching their characters. Jessica chose a classical outfit with long sleeves hidden inside.
She lightly shook her sleeves and said, "Tell the boss that after I handle this today, have the finance department settle my previous ad fees."
Mackenzie caught the key point. "Today?"
Jessica gave her a reassuring look. "Today."
"Here?"
"Yes."
"What do you need us to do?"
"Knowing the issues between Trinity and me, the sponsor invited us both. The dance topic will definitely come up. Advertisers love to ride the wave of hot topics." Jessica's voice was calm. "After all these days, it's well-known enough. It's time to wrap it up."
She looked at Mackenzie again. "During the live stream, no matter what I say or do, or how the host and audience react, don't tell the sponsor to stop. Let everything proceed as usual. I'll control the direction of the topic myself."
Mackenzie was speechless. "With so many people around, if things get out of hand, dozens of security guards won't be able to stop it. What if someone throws eggs or bottles? This is a live broadcast!"
"Don't worry. Even if someone throws something, it won't hit me." With that, Jessica's hair was done, and she got out of the car.
