Chapter 128 When Did I Invite You

These days, Mackenzie was in a state of anger. What could make her so excited must be a piece of news worth celebrating.
"What surprise?"
"Have you noticed that most of the skincare products I've been using in the past two years are from those few high-end foreign brands? I only used a domestic brand once. Remember the time when you borrowed my sunscreen because you were in a hurry to go out? How did you feel after using it?" Mackenzie didn't give a direct answer, but her tone was full of joy and mystery.
Jessica was caught off guard and took a while to remember. "It was pretty good."
If she remembered correctly, the domestic brand Mackenzie mentioned was Tilans, a high-end skincare brand with an excellent reputation in recent years.
"If Tilans wants to collaborate with us, would you accept?" Mackenzie continued with a mysterious smile.
Jessica was confused.
She didn't dare to think about it. "Are you kidding? How is that possible?"
"Then I'll keep this surprise for you. Remember to check the Twitter at ten o'clock tomorrow morning." Even over the phone, Jessica could feel Mackenzie's excitement, and she even teased. "My dear Jessica, you are amazing! Love you so much, Mua!"
After giving several kisses over the phone, Mackenzie hung up directly.
Jessica was puzzled.
Tilans really wanted to collaborate with them.
Although it was a domestic high-end skincare brand with production lines in the country, the beauty company behind it was a Sino-French joint venture, and the brand was well-known overseas.
Moreover, it was widely known that Tilans only hired highly popular Hollywood female stars as their spokespersons, to the extent that many top-tier domestic female stars were eager to grab a spokesperson role but couldn't get one.
Moreover, Tilans never engaged local celebrities as endorsers. Their domestic branch head, from Country F, seldom followed local entertainment trends. Not only had they never collaborated with any female domestic entertainment stars, but they hadn't even appointed a low-tier influencer.
Danielle stood by, listening to her mom on the phone with her head tilted, until Jessica hung up. She quickly reached out and picked up the phone and happened to see Jessica accidentally opening the WhatsApp page.
With a curious expression, she pointed to the row of names on the screen. "Mommy, which one is Uncle Spencer's name?"
Jessica was still thinking about Tilans. Mackenzie was actually quite reliable in her work, so it was unlikely that Mackenzie would suddenly get so excited about something baseless. However, Jessica also felt it was unlikely.
Even if Tilans had plans to collaborate with domestic female stars, it wouldn't be her turn, as there were plenty of top-tier influencers ahead of her to choose from.
She casually pointed to the phone screen and then continued to tidy up Danielle's clothes and the new backpack that Landon had just sent over.
Danielle held the phone, looking at the name Jessica had pointed out, then sneakily went into the next room, closed the door, and mimicked Jessica's usual style to send a voice message.
The fridge was stocked with enough ingredients, so Jessica didn't need to go grocery shopping for a week. To avoid wastage, Jessica decided to cook more delicious food for Danielle tonight.
And she conveniently forgot about her vow not to cook steak for Danielle again.
Around six o'clock in the evening, Danielle sat on the living room carpet, playing with her dolls.
The living room was spacious, and the carpet was large. Danielle seemed to be waiting for something as she suddenly ran to the door and pressed her ear against it to listen.
Jessica was busy in the kitchen and didn't notice. When she walked out, she saw Danielle back on the carpet, rolling around by herself, muttering, "Mommy, make more dinner, make more..."
Jessica felt a bit embarrassed by Danielle's enjoyment of rolling around on the carpet and very consciously forgot the scene of herself waking up in the soft bed that morning and not wanting to leave it.
"Alright, not very old, but has a big appetite. Did I give birth to a little piglet?" Jessica said as she went back to the kitchen.
Danielle lay on the carpet, her chin resting on her hands. She kicked her feet, smiling and not saying a word, occasionally glancing towards the door.
Danielle didn't move until she heard the doorbell ring. Remembering that Jessica had told her not to open the door by herself, she quickly ran to the kitchen door and shouted, "Mommy, open the door quickly. Maybe it's Uncle Spencer!"
Jessica had heard the doorbell, dried her hands, and was preparing to open the door when she heard Danielle's voice.
Jessica looked puzzled. "How do you know who it is?"
Danielle smiled and took a few steps back outside the kitchen, instinctively keeping a safe distance from her mom as Jessica came out. Then, she pointed towards the door. "Mommy, go and open the door!"
"Danielle, are you up to something behind my back?" Jessica asked as she went to open the door, giving Danielle a stern look.
Danielle stuck out her tongue, standing on the other side of the carpet without saying a word. Her round, big eyes blinked, unable to hide her slight guilt, but despite feeling guilty, her small mouth was still curved upwards, showing how happy she was.
Jessica opened the door and saw Gabriel outside.
Gabriel was dressed in the same well-fitted dark gray suit he wore to the office in the morning, looking handsome and composed. Every time Gabriel appeared, he shattered Jessica's previous impressions of him at home, even surpassing those impressions.
She didn't know what kind of boss he was at the Harriman Group, and the descriptions she occasionally heard about his cold and aloof demeanor seemed very unfamiliar to her.
In her mind, Gabriel's long homebound coma, his sporadic elegance upon health recovery, and the accidental glimpse of his lazy sensuality, played out. But in that month or so, it felt like a dream.
At this moment, Gabriel, who stood in front of her, was not as aloof and unapproachable as others described. He simply exuded a refreshing and noble air, embodying a dignified gentleman and elite.
Jessica couldn't hide her surprise, and when Gabriel's gaze met hers, she was caught off guard.
Gabriel's elegant and slightly cold eyebrows twitched as his dark eyes met hers. "How am I supposed to come in if you're blocking the door?"
Jessica quickly let go of the door handle, moved her gaze away, and hurriedly asked, "Why are you..."
Gabriel paused his steps into the house, looked down at her, and said, "Didn't you invite me for dinner?"
"When did I invite you?" Jessica's tone faltered. Then she abruptly turned her eyes towards the living room and sternly asked, "Danielle?!"
