Chapter 226 How Can He Still Be So Clear-headed?
Seeing the obvious urgency in Jessica's eyes, Donna sneered, thinking Jessica was afraid of missing such an opportunity to ascend to a noble status. "It doesn't matter which room it is; what matters is that you're already late. Mr. Harriman has been inside for a while now. They're probably all over each other by now. If you go in now, you'll just ruin the mood!"
Jessica's expression remained unchanged, but her heart skipped a beat.
Indeed, from the moment she heard Virgil's call to the time she finally reached the third floor, more than twenty minutes had passed.
If boththat woman and Gabriel were in an unconscious state, it was likely that everything that could have happened, already did.
Donna was clearly trying to provoke her and deliberately continue to delay time.
Jessica stopped asking, let go of the door to the emergency exit, and turned to start knocking on the nearest door, one by one. "Is anyone there? Is anyone inside? Open the door!"
"Is anyone there?"
"Is anyone inside?"
"Open the door!"
"Is anyone there?"
Jessica kept knocking on each door. Donna, instead of leaving, stood in the hallway with her arms crossed, watching Jessica anxiously go from door to door.
Seeing how Jessica had pretended in front of Gabriel a few days ago, it turned out she cared so much about fame and fortune. She was so anxious because she couldn't successfully use Gabriel and climb into his bed. Even if she managed to open the door and Gabriel came to open it, so what? It wasn't her who was being slept with. How close could she possibly be withGabriel?
After tonight, Gabriel's woman would only be the other actress Donna had sent in, having nothing to do with Jessica!
But thinking about it, it was quite a pity. If it weren't for her godfather Carl's strong possessiveness, she would have wanted to have sex with Gabriel herself. Perhaps she would have ascended to even greater heights.
Finally, when Jessica reached the last door at the end of the hallway and was about to knock, she suddenly heard the sounds of a man and a woman inside.
Her hand froze on the door. Even with the room's good soundproofing, pressing her ear against the door allowed her to hear the noises inside clearly.
The people inside seemed to be in the throes of passion. The woman's coquettish moans and the man's vigorous movements were unmistakably clear to her ears.
Jessica's mind went blank, and Gabriel's words from that day in the cold wind suddenly echoed in her ears.
"Is it the first day I knew about Danielle's existence?"
"Jessica, have I been too indulgent with you, always restraining myself and giving you enough time!"
"You know very well what I think of you!"
"Did you really think I could keep indulging you without any limits?"
She felt a chill from head to toe, standing stiffly in front of the door for over ten seconds.
The sounds inside grew clearer, and the woman's moans became more intense.
Donna walked over, hearing the noises inside, and said with a face full of envy and pity, "The stand-in actress our crew arranged for you looks quite like you, and she's about the same age. Not only can she be your stand-in and back double in the film, but in this aspect... The room is so dark, and neither of them is conscious. Do you think Mr. Harriman has realized she's not you?"
Jessica felt a chill down her spine, her hand slowly clenching into a fist on the door. She suddenly started pounding on the door with all her might.
She didn't know how long it would take for someone to open the door, but her hand continued to mechanically and numbly knock.
Donna chuckled, then suddenly, with a face full of feigned benevolence, handed over a room key card. "If you want to go in, just go in and see for yourself. What's the point of knocking like this? They're completely ignoring you."
The key card was forcibly placed into Jessica's hand. She suddenly stopped knocking but hesitated.
She wasn't anyone special to Gabriel. What was she even doing here?
What right did she have to interrupt them?
What right did she have to barge in?
Did it have anything to do with her?
But many scenes flashed before her eyes, and everything about Gabriel seemed to gradually magnify in her mind.
Jessica thought, 'Jessica, what were you doing?'
'Get a grip.'
'No matter who Gabriel was inside with or how far things have gone, it had nothing to do with you. You never had that right.'
But a voice inside kept telling her that the man's voice wasn't right; it wasn't Gabriel.
She felt confused, clutching the key card. Under Donna's smug gaze, driven by some chaotic and impulsive force, she suddenly swiped the key card. Hearing the beep of the lock opening, she gripped the door handle, took a deep breath, and, as if trying to tear back a corner of light from the darkness, she forcefully opened the door in front of her.
The room was large but in disarray. Men's clothes, women's dresses, and an unpleasant smell filled the air.
Looking down, she realized that the man's clothes on the floor didn't seem to belong to Gabriel. Out of the corner of her eye, she suddenly noticed the man and woman entangled on the bed in the center of the room.
In that instant of clarity, goosebumps rose all over her body. The man was completely unfamiliar, from his build to his face—not Gabriel at all.
Her thoughts were still a bit muddled when suddenly everything went dark. A long, strong arm wrapped around her from behind, and a familiar, clean scent enveloped her.
"Don't look." Gabriel's voice was right by her ear, low and calm, yet with an unusual warmth. He decisively pulled her out of the room.
Jessica's vision was blacked out, and her body, which had instinctively recoiled from the disgusting scene in the room, suddenly relaxed in his embrace.
Donna hadn't figured out what was happening. She only saw Gabriel, who had suddenly walked out of the elevator with a blank expression, quickly stride into the room and pull Jessica out, covering her eyes and kissing her ear in a comforting manner.
'Harriman... Mr. Harriman? How could Mr. Harriman be here? Wasn't he in the room? I had seen him walk into Azure Wave and drink the coffee offered by the doorman, the coffee that had been tampered with. He had clearly drunk it! How could he still be so clear-headed? Who was in that room if not Mr. Harriman?' Donna thought in her heart.
Donna stood frozen like a stone at the door, with her eyes wide with disbelief, watching Gabriel, alive and well, suddenly appear at the door, even coming out of the elevator!
Gabriel, while kissing Jessica's ear, held her tightly as if she were the most precious and important thing in the world.
Jessica, still confused, felt her ear heat up as Gabriel released her eyes. She turned abruptly to meet Gabriel's deep, dark gaze, seeing her reflection in his calm, ocean-like eyes.
