Chapter 491 Need to Dig Deep to Know
Seeing that Jessica's two friends intended to discuss, Rebecca consciously left the ward.
But outside the room, she was bored, so she went to the ICU to check on Gabriel.
She could look, but only from the hallway; she couldn't even get close to the monitoring glass window. And once she took out her phone nearby, the bodyguards would give her a particularly cold look, warning her not to take random photos.
Rebecca muttered to herself as she walked, "Mr. Harriman, you've been in a coma for several days. Jessica can't leave the ward and is constantly worried about you, but she can't know your condition. I know how worried Jessica is, how much she wants to see you, but your people won't even let me take a picture. If you were awake, you'd definitely let me take one. Do you know how stubborn your people are..."
She paced back and forth outside, muttering to herself. It seemed like she was talking to herself, but the bodyguards could hear her.
The bodyguards remained expressionless, but when Landon came out and saw Rebecca muttering, he glanced back at the still unconscious Gabriel in the ward.
Landon walked over, looking down at the pacing Rebecca, and said coldly, "Even if Mr. Harriman wakes up, you couldn't take pictures of him."
Suddenly someone spoke, startling Rebecca. She turned her head and looked up at him, "Huh?"
"Mr. Harriman is still in a critical observation period. His condition is very serious and he could be rushed to the emergency room at any moment. Every piece of equipment in the ward proves he's fighting for his life. If these scenes were photographed and seen by Mrs. Harriman, it would greatly be a damage to her. She's not in great condition either and needs absolute rest. Don't take pictures; it would only make her more anxious and unable to sleep, which is bad for everyone."
Rebecca's expression became a bit awkward, and she said, "But Jessica already knows, even if she hasn't seen it. I didn't lie to her."
Landon didn't blame her and looked at the Rebecca again, "There's no point in lying. Mr. Harriman was in the fire without any protection. Even if you lied and said he was fine, she wouldn't believe it. But if Mrs. Harriman see it herself, she would be probably worried."
Rebecca put away her phone and looked worriedly in the direction of the ICU, "When will Mr. Harriman wake up?"
Landon sighed slightly, "I don't know."
Rebecca had heard that Gabriel's heart had stopped twice, his breathing was erratic, and he had inhaled a lot of deadly smoke. He had also borne the weight of both himself and Jessica when jumping from the building. Even a trained firefighter in protective gear would be seriously injured in such an environment, let alone without any protection.
But he had protected Jessica well. Apart from inhaling a small amount of smoke, she was almost unharmed.
When Rebecca returned to the ward, she heard Mackenzie saying to Jessica, "When Lynn and I came in earlier, we saw a lot of people. They must be from the Jenner family, right? Are they here to see you? But it seems Mr. Harriman's people stopped them."
This was a very famous private hospital in Washington. Because it was private, it could provide excellent medical care and cooperation. If it were a public hospital, it might not be able to completely isolate those people. After all, hospitals have to be open to the public, and if the Jenner family wanted to sneak in, they would find a way.
Jessica looked at Rebecca at the door, her eyes full of questions.
Due to Landon's words, Rebecca hesitated and carefully said, "I went to the ICU again, but I couldn't get in. Landon is always there, and if anything happens, he'll come and tell you immediately."
Jessica restrained her emotions and suddenly turned to Lynn, "Lynn, give me Marshall's number."
"Marshall? The six-episode variety show you signed up for hasn't started filming yet. It starts in next month. Are you planning to cancel? I think your health should be fine by then, but if you really want to..." Lynn said.
"No, it's about something else. It won't affect my work," Jessica said.
Lynn understood that Jessica was still busy with her personal life besides her work and didn't ask further. She gave Jessica Marshall's Facebook and also sent Marshall's number to Jessica's Facebook.
In the evening, after Jessica had slept for two days and then counted three more sunrises and sunsets, she called Marshall.
Jessica said, "Hello, Marshall. This is Jessica. I'm sorry to bother you. I know you're currently focused on your career and have collaborated on many variety shows. I can sign a six-month contract with you, but before we officially work together, I need your help with something.
I heard your father's company has a long-term cooperation with Manhattan Construction and has a deep understanding of their operations and connections. They also have close ties with the Jenner family. I want to ask about the relationship between Aaron and Manhattan Construction."
Two days later, Jessica's health had improved significantly. She could get out of bed without feeling dizzy. Knowing that Eugene had been lingering around the hospital for the past few days, she got up and went downstairs. She knew Landon's people wouldn't let her in, but she could go out.
Of course, even outside the hospital, there were many people Landon had sent to guard the entrance.
Seeing Jessica come out, Samuel was the first to get out of the car, followed by Eugene.
"How are you feeling? Better?" Eugene's concern didn't seem fake as he looked Jessica up and down, "I can explain the fire at Golden Fortune Restaurant. I had an appointment with someone else that day and went out to take a call. When I came back, I saw the fire. Jessica, the fire at Golden Fortune Restaurant really has nothing to do with me."
"I know." Washington's weather was still cold. Jessica stood at the hospital entrance, wrapped in a coat, her voice calm, "I had someone investigate the surveillance records from the past few days. I know it has nothing to do with you. You don't need to explain."
Eugene was ruthless, but he wouldn't go as far as to burn her alive. Besides, she and Gabriel were the ones he wanted to control, so he couldn't annoy them.
However, it was Eugene who invited them there, and it was indeed Golden Fortune Restaurant that caught fire. She had spent the past few days investigating and found that the people behind Golden Fortune Restaurant had some connections with Manhattan Construction.
There were some shady dealings like money laundering that needed to be dug deeper to uncover.
