Chapter 365 The Person in Charge is Gabriel

Caught off guard by the sudden force at her collar, Jessica stumbled back two steps, falling straight into Gabriel's arms. She quickly steadied herself against his chest, then swiftly grabbed her collar to break free from his grip. She turned around and gave him a bewildered glare.

As always, Gabriel towered over her, forcing Jessica to look up at him.

Gabriel looked down at her with a cool, detached expression and said, "Are you sure you know what you're doing?"

Jessica didn't want to answer, so she didn't. She clutched the collar of her chiffon blouse, which had almost been torn open, and walked away.

Gabriel didn't call her back, but even after she left the room, his words, "Are you sure you know what you're doing?" kept echoing in her ears.

Even when she had to call the film company's representative to bring her room key because she couldn't go downstairs. Even when she lay on her bed, that sentence and Gabriel's clear, piercing gaze lingered in her mind.

Gabriel had probably intended to ask her that question the night he stayed outside her old house, when she was upstairs and he was in the car, listening to her repeatedly tell him over the phone to stop bothering her and let her live peacefully with her family.

He didn't repeatedly ask her, "Are you really married?"

Nor did he ask why she hadn't been seen with the so-called father of her child in the past two years.

He only asked, "Are you sure you know what you're doing?"

The next morning, Jessica woke up before 7:30 AM. The heavy rain outside was still pouring down. Standing by the window, she couldn't see the best view outside because the window was covered in rainwater, and the thunder had been rumbling all night.

The rain was so heavy that it might be impossible to leave Stellaria City today. It might even be difficult to leave the hotel. Although there hadn't been any flooding yet, if the rain continued, there would inevitably be a lot of water accumulation, despite Stellaria City's excellent drainage system. Cars on the road were splashing water everywhere, and some had stalled in deep water and couldn't move.

The entire hotel was filled with the heavy scent of rain today, and even the hotel's restaurant felt more humid than usual.

After washing up, Jessica went to the hotel restaurant for breakfast. Lynn and Zoey were already there, looking for food with their plates. Jessica asked the service desk to make her a bowl of beef pasta and then sat at the table to wait. Lynn brought her a glass of milk and placed it by her hand.

She had been busy almost every moment for the past two years, and suddenly having a whole day with nothing to do and nowhere to go, Jessica didn't know what to do with herself. She drank her milk and picked up a newspaper from the rack, imitating the businesspeople around her who were reading while having breakfast.

Nowadays, newspapers were rare. But whether in Stellaria City or back home, some authoritative newspapers still stood strong.

Since the hotel they were staying at was a top choice for many high-end businesspeople traveling to Stellaria City, the newspapers here were mostly focused on finance, covering news from business circles both in Stellaria City and back home.

She first looked for the entertainment section and saw that it was filled with news that had already been leaked on social media, just written differently in the newspaper. She skimmed through it quickly and then returned to the finance section.

Flipping to the inside pages, she suddenly saw news about the Jenner and a financial stock in Stellaria City - The Jenner's Return to the Stock Market Failed, Key Business Development Stalled, Index in Crisis. The news took up a significant portion of the page.

Although Jessica didn't care about the Jenner family, the headline was too big to ignore.

She didn't understand much about these things, but she noticed the news because it mentioned some minor incidents that occurred after Daniel, the current vice president of the Jenner family, came to the Stellaria City Stock Exchange. She also saw the financing activities and other cooperation intentions Daniel wanted to participate in.

If she remembered correctly, the internal financing cooperation project Daniel wanted to participate in with N&K Capital was managed by Gabriel.

It was obvious that with Gabriel's unique vision and strategy, he wouldn't think highly of someone like Daniel. She read the report carefully again.

Jessica didn't understand much about financial analysis and stock market fluctuations, but Mackenzie often talked about funds and stocks. She usually didn't pay much attention to new high-speed development projects she heard about.

However, she did understand that the Harriman Group was the biggest beneficiary and the main operator behind N&K Capital.

In simple terms, the report stated that there were significant internal conflicts within the Jenner family. From Donald to his several ineffective senior managers, down to the temporarily promoted Daniel, there was deep dissatisfaction within the group. Donald brought Daniel to the Stellaria City Stock Exchange in an attempt at capital restructuring, but it failed. Two small companies formally acquired by Daniel were about to be merged and acquired, which was very unfavorable.

Due to a series of Daniel's poor decisions, the Jenner Group had suffered heavy losses in the past six months. Daniel was now notorious, and the eighty-something-year-old Donald had to come to Stellaria City to solve the problems and try to regain the cooperation rights under N&K Capital.

Another report mentioned that the Jenner Group was the first company to be kicked out by N&K Capital.

Gabriel had always been ruthless with incompetence, and Daniel was indeed unteachable. The Jenner family's current awkward situation was something Jessica had already guessed, even if she didn't understand the business world.

Jessica  was just passing the time reading the newspaper, and her pasta were already cooked. She didn't hear them calling her for a long time.

Only when Zoey brought the pasta to Jessica that she finally snapped out of her reading.

"Whoa, Lynn. You actually like drinking this kind of coffee without any sugar. It tastes awful, like ash water. How do you swallow it?" Zoey teased while eating breakfast.

Lynn, looking spirited, sat down with her tray and started enjoying her breakfast. She took a sip of coffee and glanced at Zoey, "You don't understand. I'm addicted to this. It makes me feel more energized."

Zoey indeed didn't understand, but seeing Lynn enjoy her coffee so much, she couldn't help but shiver. She felt bitter in her mouth even without drinking it and glanced at Jessica, "Jessica, are you reading financial news?"
