Chapter 31 The Secret from Five Years Ago

As she stared at the same face for the past five years, Trinity clenched her fists in the darkness.

Jessica was not only alive, but she had survived a massive fire without a disfiguring scar.

Seeing her again after all these years, Jessica's face remained impassive, and she looked coolly at Trinity, her once-close younger sister.

After Mackenzie had mentioned the special guest appearance, Jessica knew that Trinity would be on the set, but she had thoroughly reviewed the script. Their roles had no scenes together and no chance of appearing on screen at the same time. Plus, with Trinity only making a brief cameo, it seemed unlikely their paths would cross.

The high hopes Mackenzie had placed on her, coupled with the substantial funds needed for child care, left Jessica with no room to turn down the role whimsically.

"After all these years, you should at least say hello, as my sister." Trinity, having shaken off the shock and fear from earlier in the car, looked contemptuous and ironic. Her soft voice was audible only to Jessica.

Jessica's gaze was steady, her eyes faintly cool, giving nothing away. "When have you ever treated me like a sister?"

Trinity's lips curled into a scornful smile. "Five years apart, and you've grown so distant?"

As Trinity stood there with an innocent smile, Jessica was expressionless. Not wishing to engage any further, she turned and walked away.

Jessica dressed to facilitate her practice sessions—a light aqua chiffon blouse paired with loose-fitting, comfortable white trousers. She wore no jewelry, and her bag was a plain canvas tote.

But to Trinity, Jessica's attire seemed too commonplace—certainly a far cry from a luxurious lifestyle. This thought brought her a sense of relief.

She asked her assistant for a cell phone and called Director Joseph. Her message was concise: she wanted him to replace the actress playing the secondary female lead.

Joseph had just received praise from producer Sebastian Murdock minutes earlier. He touted the actress playing the secondary lead, Jessica, as a perfect fit for the character of Katarina and even suggested she be given more opportunities on set.

A newcomer receiving commendations from Sebastian Murdock was nearly unheard of in the industry. Just as Joseph was starting to pay attention to this, Trinity abruptly suggested a replacement.

Joseph couldn't fathom where this Jessica had suddenly come from.
In the industry, actresses who got publicly called out by Trinity were almost all A-listers, stars who were famous . They were worth Trinity's attention,. But Jessica is an obscure, up-and-coming actress.

"The role has already been cast, and the contract has been signed. Unless Jessica pulls out on her own, we can't replace her like that. Plus, she really is a good fit for the part," Joseph pointed out.

Trinity's expression turned sour in an instant. "Joseph, we've known each other for years. I took on this project out of respect for our friendship, that's all. I have no other demands, but Jessica cannot stay."

Joseph felt trapped. "Could I talk it over with the team first?"

Sensing a chance, Trinity didn't bother with more arguments and hung up.

Turning towards the direction Jessica had left, Trinity's gaze grew cold.

She couldn't allow Jessica any opportunity to be noticed by more people, lest someone uncover the secret from five years ago.

She couldn't let her stay in the entertainment industry, threatening her position!
