Chapter 380 There's Nothing Wrong with Taking a Nap!

Jessica's first reaction was to quickly push away the arm on her and sit up, but she pushed too hard. Just as she was about to sit up, she suddenly heard Gabriel groan in pain.

She froze, remembering that Gabriel was still injured. She turned to Gabriel, who had been sleeping, now pale with pain, looking at her. "What are you doing?"

Jessica retorted, "What are you doing?"

Gabriel was clearly in pain from her push. He frowned slightly, glanced at her well-rested expression, and withdrew his hand. "You kicked the blanket off while sleeping last night, and your hands were all over the place. I covered you a few times, got tired of it, and just lay down."

Gabriel remained remarkably calm.

Taking advantage of him withdrawing his hand, Jessica quickly sat up, rolled off the other side of the hospital bed, and found her shoes. Only then did she seem to find her voice, retorting, "Didn't you say you'd sleep on the couch?"

She pointed to the small couch in the room meant for family members to rest.

Gabriel followed her hand to the small single couch, then looked back at her. "When did I say I'd sleep on the couch?"

Jessica stared at him, her mind quickly recalling last night's conversation. She remembered she had said it, but he hadn't refused!

Jessica thought, 'Forget it, we're both adults. Sleeping together for a night is no big deal!'

There was no need to overreact.

It was just so unexpected, and she reacted on instinct.

'He's injured. I shouldn't make a fuss.'

She quickly composed herself and checked the time. It was just past five in the morning, still dark outside, shrouded in the last bit of pre-dawn gloom.

She went back to the bed and looked at the spot behind his neck. "Did I pull on your wound just now?"

Though her eyes were on the spot behind his neck, her tone lacked any hint of guilt.

It's not her fault; how was she supposed to know she'd wake up to find Gabriel sleeping next to her?

Seeing Jessica suddenly lean in, Gabriel glanced at her. This single hospital bed could fit both of them only because he had spent the whole night slightly turned to make her comfortable. Now he turned back, not letting her see the wound. When Jessica raised her hand to lift his collar, he gave her a look. She stopped, deciding not to check.

Jessica thought, 'Anyway, a nurse would come to change his dressing soon, and she could see then.'

But seeing him leaning against the pillow uncomfortably, she suddenly remembered the things she bought yesterday. She turned and saw the bag still on the chair outside the room. She quickly grabbed it and opened it. "I almost forgot. I bought a pillow yesterday so you can be more comfortable."

She took out the pillow and, without saying thanks or sorry, forcefully pushed Gabriel's body forward and stuffed the pillow behind him.

Then, she looked down at him expectantly. "How is it? Is it good?"

Gabriel glanced at her but didn't answer her question.. He leaned back against the pillow, clearly enjoying it, and suddenly said, "I'm hungry."

Jessica reminded, "It's so early! The sun isn't even up!"

Gabriel said aggrievedly, "I didn't eat last night."

Jessica just remembered she didn't bring dinner when she came last night and then fell asleep on his bed.

"Can't you ask the nurse for a meal? This is a decent hospital in Stellaria City. They should be able to meet a patient's basic needs."

Gabriel replied, "I wasn't hungry last night, but I am now."

Jessica gritted her teeth, considering his injury was because of her, she held back and stood up. "Fine, I'll see which breakfast places are open near the hospital. You wait here."

Gabriel leaned back against the pillow, closed his eyes, and really started waiting.

Jessica was hungry, too, having not eaten last night.

Luckily, there were a few 24-hour places near the hospital to cater to patients and their families, and breakfast places opened early.

Stellaria City had a variety of breakfast options. She bought a light vegetable porridge for Gabriel, suitable for someone injured, and got herself a sandwich and beef meatball soup.

By the time she returned with breakfast, the sky was already lightening.

After bringing the breakfast into the room, Jessica was about to start on her sandwich and beef meatball soup when Gabriel asked her to feed him.

Jessica asked, "Aren't you able to get out of bed? Do you still need me to feed you?"

Gabriel, sitting comfortably on the bed, looked at her calmly. "Getting out of bed is one thing, but walking uses my legs, and eating uses my hands. Raising my hand pulls on my shoulder."

"Besides..." Gabriel winced, moving his shoulder slightly. "The wound got pulled this morning, I can't move now."

Jessica took a deep breath of the fragrant meatball soup, glaring at Gabriel who was waiting to be served. She stood up, opened his breakfast, and started feeding him the vegetable porridge. "Back when you were injured at my place, almost dying, you weren't this fussy. You ate by yourself. Now, just a hit from a lamp and you're this bad? I think you're faking it."

Gabriel said nothing, opened his mouth to eat the porridge, then glanced at her meatball soup on the table. "Is yours different?"

"You're seriously injured, better not eat anything with oil and salt. I specifically asked them to go light on the seasoning for this porridge. Just make do." Jessica sat by the bed, continuing to feed him, with no intention of sharing her soup.

Gabriel took another bite, then seemed unable to bear it, stopping.

"Is it really that bad?" Jessica had never seen Gabriel be picky before; he could eat two bowls of plain porridge.

She took a spoonful of the porridge she had fed him and tasted it herself, her expression changing.

She thought, 'How could it be bitter?'

No wonder that breakfast place wasn't as popular as the one next door; the unseasoned taste was awful.

She glanced at her own bowl. "How about I give you half of mine? You eat less; I'm afraid too much salt will affect your wound healing."

She quickly put down the porridge, brought over her meatball soup, tasted it to make sure it wasn't too salty, and then fed him.

As Gabriel ate, Jessica suddenly paused when their eyes met.

Jessica thought, 'Why was I using the same spoon as him?'
