Chapter 500 Can Gabriel Make It Through This Time?

When they left the auto repair shop, it was already past 2 a.m.

The Washington wind was biting cold. Jessica pulled her scarf up to cover most of her face. The car outside was the one Keegan had called for.

Both of their cars needed at least five days for the shop's system checks and other procedures before they could pick them up.

After getting in the car, Jessica told the driver the location of the Jenner family. Hearing that, Keegan turned to look at her.

However, Jessica turned her face away, looking out the window and not wanting to talk.

Keegan knew she didn't want to be too close to him, so he kept a polite distance and said, "I told you everything because my guilt, my selfishness, and my hope that you can understand everything and live in the present, not get caught up in the grudges of the past."

Jessica remained silent, burying her face in her scarf until the car arrived at the Jenner family home. She got out of the car.

Keegan got out and walked her to the door. Suddenly, he called out, "Jessica."

Jessica stopped.

He continued, "I don't know if Gabriel will make it through this time. If needed, I'll always be by your side."

Jessica took off her scarf, breathing in the cold night air. Without turning back, she said, "I don't need you."

With that, she walked inside, her figure disappearing into the snowy night in the Jenner family courtyard.

Keegan watched for a while, knowing she hadn't changed at all.

The past two years in the entertainment industry had been tumultuous for her, full of traps that seemed to wear down her edges. But she had never really changed. Jessica still possessed the sharpness and principles she hid in front of the camera, and the resilience that once brought down Trinity and her mother to seek justice for herself.

Only this time, she wasn't just donning an invisible armor for herself.

The next day, Aaron indeed returned to the Jenner family. He entered quietly, but everyone in the house knew.

Having heard that Donald had occasionally been able to sit in a wheelchair and bask in the sun recently, Aaron went to see Donald first.

When Aaron came out of Donald's room, he saw Jessica standing outside.

Jessica had just come out of her small villa. After returning last night, she took a bath and went to sleep. Having been exhausted from two days of work and a sweaty competition show, and then meeting Keegan at night, she fell asleep as soon as she hit the bed. But she had dreamt all night.

For over twenty years, she had only known that Eugene had wronged her mother. When her mother died, there was no one by her side. And Eugene, the only person she trusted, had never shown her any extra compassion or pity.

Jessica had never thought about the circumstances under which Eugene and her mother met over twenty years ago. And why it ended the way it did.

Keegan had told her a story from over twenty years ago last night, and then she had a bizarre dream. When she opened her eyes in the morning, Jessica's forehead was covered in a fine sweat. She heard the servant outside say that Aaron had returned.

She had simply washed up and come over. At this moment, Jessica was only wearing a sweater, with her shoulder-length hair loosely draped over her shoulders. . But even without makeup, her gaze at Aaron remained hard. She had inherited her mother's natural beauty, with striking and elegant features. Her current expression was so cold that it was impossible to ignore.

For a moment, the surrounding relatives and servants suddenly felt that Jessica was the firmly established young lady of the house. When she no longer avoided this responsibility, her presence was enough to calm all the turmoil in the old mansion.

Aaron closed Donald's door, his gaze calmly falling on Jessica's face. After a few seconds of eye contact, he gave her a courteous look befitting an elder addressing a younger person and asked knowingly, "Jessica, when did you come back? How long have you been staying here?"

"I've been here for a few days, but haven't had the chance to see you, Uncle Aaron," Jessica said lightly, her tone emotionless. "However, I did have the pleasure of meeting some leaders from Manhattan Construction while working outside a few days ago. They all spoke highly of you."

Hearing the mention of the leaders from Manhattan Construction, Aaron didn't respond immediately. The surrounding relatives and servants, all perceptive individuals, noticed the tension between the two and quietly withdrew.

Outside Donald's room, only Jessica and Aaron remained, along with the surveillance cameras Jessica had checked to ensure they were working.

Aaron glanced discreetly at the corner of the hallway, then suddenly smiled, draping his coat over his arm. Despite being in his fifties, his long-standing presence in high society had maintained his elegant demeanor. Daniel hadn't inherited any of his pretentiousness; otherwise, how could Eugene have taken such a significant advantage over them?

"Now that no one else is around, let's speak openly," Aaron said, looking at Jessica with a hint of displeasure in his eyes. "Is this how you plan to handle Daniel's situation? He's your cousin."

"Whether he's my cousin or not doesn't matter. We didn't grow up together. It is a fact that he attempted to murder me. As the victim, providing evidence to the police is an act of self-defense. The law will hold him accountable," Jessica said, unfazed by Aaron's displeasure. "Strictly speaking, I should have informed you first, but we haven't had much contact over the years. Daniel tried to kill me, and I can't just let it go for my own safety. The law is always just, isn't it?"

Aaron smiled and said, "Are you using the law to put pressure on me?"

"No, I'm just seeking truth from facts. In recent years, all aspects have been strictly regulated, and each department has a rigorous style. There are few who dare to go too far. I'm also curious about what kind of family environment Daniel grew up to be so brave, even daring to kill people. Nowadays, even the leaders at Manhattan Construction hold evidence for their own protection. Once there is any corruption, bribery, or any under-the-table deals, they will always find someone to take the fall. However, I don't know who will be scapegoated this time."

Aaron's smile faded. Jessica's words implied she knew more than just the surface-level issues in Washington.

After all, she was just a woman in her twenties. Besides being protected by Gabriel for a long time, where did she get so much power and connections?

"Did your father teach you to say this?"

Jessica casually pushed her hair back and said slowly, "If Eugene had that kind of power, he wouldn't be under your control, would he? Uncle Aaron, you've spent over twenty years setting this up, waiting for Mr. Jenner finally to pass away. Why can't you stay calm recently?"
